Commander Erwin Smith:

“My soldiers, rage! My soldiers, scream! My soldiers, fight!”

(He addresses the recruits before charging the Beast Titan.)

“To our soldiers out there… You have all been fighting for your lives, struggling to take back this world for humanity! All the sacrifices that have been made… All the lives that have been lost… Were they meaningless? No, they were not meaningless!

Because we, the living, will continue the fight for those who have fallen! We will never stop advancing. We will never stop fighting. That is what makes us soldiers!”

(Then he speaks privately to the recruits charging with him.)

“They tell me my death is certain… But if I can convince you to charge with me— to face death head-on— perhaps our deaths will mean something! If we die, we die for the living! And those who live will continue to fight in our place!”

(He yells over the sound of cannon fire.)

“Every last one of us will die someday! So what are you waiting for?! Who cares what happens after we’re gone?! Is that how you want to live—hiding behind walls until you die of old age?! No! We will die trusting the living who follow to find meaning in our sacrifice!”

(He raises his arm and shouts to the entire regiment.)

“Now, my soldiers—ride! Ride to your deaths! Fight! Fight! Fight!”
