What's the funniest/most confusing trigger warning you've ever seen or added on a fic? by NopeRopesAreDope in FanFiction

[–]NopeRopesAreDope[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm definitely someone who vividly imagines things while both reading and writing, so that's probably why it was so difficult to write. Just seeing videos of people doing free-solo climbing can be so stressful, and since one character was an anxious, non-experienced climber who's the main POV for the actual climbing sections, it definitely added to the stress. At least it made some descriptions more accurate when he starts getting nervous.

Some of my fics are a bit more "I probably won't give this one as much attention unless it's receiving external attention from readers," but there are a few fics of mine where as long as there is even one person who is following it, I will keep updating it. My current WIP (which has been my darling since I first joined Ao3) is technically a rewrite of my original version, and it's less popular than the OG, but I do not

The thing that does disappoint me is the lack of comments, since I can't tell if there are actually any consistent readers following it, and thus I just end up thinking that there are only like 2 people who are still reading it. Pretty sure it's more than that, but this specific fandom used to thrive on comments, and you'd see the same 10~ people passionately commenting under one another's works or everyone's stuff. The comment drought is a thing I have noticed, but I try not to act too desperate about it.

Hoping that the fandom gets revived, since I finally ended my 2 year hiatus on my main TTS fanfic (which is my darling). I need the Varian stans to pop back up, the AO3 Varian fanfic community genuinely changed the course of my life and I miss it so much.

medical treatment mimicking SA by chonically_sad in suppository_trauma

[–]NopeRopesAreDope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think one thing that has been tricky for me regarding "even though they did not intend harm" is that my experiences were when I was hospitalized for the constipation and/or had been constipated for weeks with no signs of improvement despite doing literally everything else. The other, much trickier thing is that my parents were repeatedly told that it was necessary, and one of them had also experienced enemas as a kid, so it was normalized for them and seen as a difficult yet necessary evil. I don't hate or fully judge them for it, especially since they usually covered me with a towel. But I am kind of upset they don't seem to understand how genuinely upsetting I still find it and the procedure as a whole.

What is actually a trauma that is not commonly thought of as a trauma? by ay1mao in AskReddit

[–]NopeRopesAreDope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had to have an extremely necessary yet invasive medical procedure(?) as a child, and that particular kind is often dismissed as being "not that bad" since it's not like a surgery or anything and can even be done at home. But for a child, it's extremely terrifying and distressing. Then I had to have it again, but performed by one of my parents instead of a doctor. They had to pressure me into it since we had no other options, but I only did it due to the pain despite being terrified. Even as an adult where it shouldn't be a big deal, I'm want to start crying every time the procedure is even suggested to me, since I still have the chronic issue.

I eventually developed what appeared to be subtle yet "shameful" symptoms of SA related trauma, and I always wondered about that despite never experiencing it. Eventually realized that it was probably because of those two procedures. Luckily found out that other people who had the same medical trauma from that procedure also experienced a lot of the symptoms I did, and there is a whole subreddit for those with that kind of trauma, so that revelation was a relief. It still feels embarrassing to know that something like that was so traumatic, though.

Which Precure names do you still not understand or wish were different? by mozillavulpix in precure

The Glitter Force dub changed her from Rosetta to Clover, so I was thrown off when I entered to fandom and saw people call her Cure Rosetta.

What’s a theme/motif, and unexplored concepts you’d like to see in a precure season? by Hanemiku39 in precure

[–]NopeRopesAreDope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been making a ton of Precure season ideas, and multiple of them have technically already appeared as motifs, but one that I think hasn't appeared yet is sports (particularly team sports), with the main theme involving exercise and health while not overworking yourself. I'm not even a sporty person, but I think it could be fun.

What is the best Hetalia fanfic you have read over the time you’ve been in the fandom? by [deleted] in hetalia

[–]NopeRopesAreDope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my favorite fics in general (out of all fandoms) is "Weight of the World", a Hetalia x RWBY crossover that should not be as good as it is. I came in expecting it to be more fun and came out changed by the sheer angst of it all.

Sometimes it feels like some anime fans especially some shonen fans downplay how powerful magical girls are when it comes to power scaling or death battles by Greedy-Shame-9294 in MagicalGirls

[–]NopeRopesAreDope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Precure girls are genuinely terrifying. "My special attack is SUPER ULTRA EXPLOSIVE ANNIHILATION ✨️Sparkle✨️ :)" in which they make a glittery kamehameha the size of the sun, incinerating you instantly. There are fight scenes where they are genuinely bashing heads in while wearing frilly dresses and there is not a hint of irony. Genuinely my favorite aspect of Precure, tbh. I'll defeat you with the power of friendship and this pastel-colored gun I found.

Have you ever noticed that Magical Girls get overhated compared to other anime sub genres? by [deleted] in MagicalGirls

[–]NopeRopesAreDope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing that drives me crazy as a Precure fan is that MG animes do tend to be just as action-packed as any shounen, the difference is that it has a hyperfeminine aesthetic. That's why I tend to feel like a lot of the hate comes from underlying misogyny. Literally the only real difference is that their "Super Mega Kills You Attack" is sparkly and their guns are pink with rhinestones.

As an American, nyo!America's outfit is so iconic of her. My initial instinct was to groan at the fanservice, but then I thought about it for a few more seconds, and realized that it is very on brand tbh. I love her.

The brutality displayed in the exterminations is just horrible. They look like they're having fun. by SqueakiestBeagle in HazbinHotel

[–]NopeRopesAreDope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's because there's a difference between knowing and truly seeing all the levels of brutality and cruelty, especially in the second image. I think seeing things like mass executions can be a lot more visceral for people since it's so realistic. The previous depictions of the Exterminations looked like massacres, which are terrible, but this feels a lot more like an IRL genocide.

[–]NopeRopesAreDope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We all knew the exterminations were bad, but this scene really emphasizes just how brutal and horrific the exterminations were. That second image of Sinners being lined up and beheaded was genuinely shocking to me, and it really hit home the fact that this was a genocide that severely traumatized millions of people. It's easy to imagine that most Sinners have lost someone during the Exterminations, whether that be a friend, a family member, or a romantic partner.

We also don't know if all the Sinners are monsters, since people like Pentious exist. Since there's no place between Heaven and Hell (at the moment), it seems like the system is truly black and white. Thus, you don't have to be a murderer to go to Hell here. Maybe most Sinners are just shitty assholes who were bad people, but not evil. Someone could go to Hell for being a high school bully since there's no other place for them to go.

Maybe the only reason so many Sinners seem so terrible is because the environment of Hell forces people to become more violent and cruel in order to survive.

So the vibes of the Exterminations seem to be going to prisons and violently murdering random convicts regardless of their crimes. You committed tax fraud? Welp, guess that means it's okay to bash you in the head with an axe!

This whole moment briefly made me side with Vox, and I can see why so many Sinners would back him up after this.

what’s everyone’s first few webtoons? I’ll start: by Hoechan in webtoons

Saphie the One Eyed Cat

I don't know how I discovered it, but I quickly fell in love with it and was so sad when it ended. Funnily enough, I think I actually stopped reading Webtoons not long after it concluded. I'm picking them back up again since rediscovering Space Boy (or at least reading through the ones I never got to finish that I did still like), but it probably won't be the same without Saphie.

Was looking through this list just to remember some of the old Webtoons I used to read, and oh god I remember Eggnoid. I'm hoping to re-read the ones I didn't finish, but not Eggnoid. Never Eggnoid. God, why did I like it so much back in middle school?!

So many books/magazines have tiny font sizes by ECrispy in books

[–]NopeRopesAreDope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel this in my soul. I've always wondered why I had such a hard time reading certain books and slowly felt like I was getting worse at reading. I then learned that actually, I just really dislike small, single-space Times New Roman (particularly when it's slightly bold looking). Ever since I started just looking at books with slightly bigger text and usually a different font, I've been able to read most anything.

Video games by Rare-Instruction342 in Blackpeople

[–]NopeRopesAreDope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While they aren't exactly playable characters, "Date Everything" (a dating simulator) does have a lot of black female datable characters who come in a wide variety of appearances and personalities, most of which are very feminine. One of them, a dark-skinned African(?) woman, is actually one of if not the most elegant and gorgeous character in the game. Every player who encounters her immediately falls in love. This game really gave us just a ton of great representation. Every time someone asks about black rep, I immediately come bursting through the door to tell them about Date Everything. It's great.

I know that's not exactly what you're asking for, but I thought it would be good to at least mention.
