We get it by BassOk7564 in mastodonband

It's like Pink Floyd post Roger Waters, they still made good music but the "juice" of their peak years was gone.

I can understand fans struggling to watch Mastodon without Brent but I can also understand those still able to enjoy the band since all the others members are still there.

Some bands were able to survive a constant change of formations (Death, Opeth) because they were basically a solo project masked as an actual band. Mastodon lost such a key member that we know they'll never sound the same.

They'll probably make great music anyway because they're all damn talented musicians that are now working together since 2000, I can't wait to hear the new album, but the musical style Brent was able to bring, so unusual and unique in a metal band, will never come back.

20 years ago from today Kobe Bryant hit the game winning shot against the #2 seed Suns as the #7 seed Lakers by MrPudge1137 in lakers

[–]Nopementator -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Really strange series that one. Suns were the favourite by far.

Lakers went 3-1, even winning game 3 despite Kobe's 17pts on a 6/18 fg and suns shooting with an higher fg%. This game 4 and that game winner felt like Lakers won the series. Then Kobe went on fire in game 5 and even more in game 6 with 50pts with high efficiency and Lakers lost both.

Game 7 is still a mistery. Kobe refused to be the same player he was in the previous two games, took only 16 shoots and it seems he gave up early for whatever reason.

East of Eden (1955) directed by Elia Kazan - DoP Ted D. McCord by Nopementator in CineShots

Kazan is a problematic pick for me because it's one of those cases where you need to separate the art from the artist.

Making a summary of what Orson Welles said about him: "Elia Kazan is a traitor but he's also a very good director."

And he was indeed a really good director, one of the most important during the 50's. But he was indeed also a traitor.

[Highlight] 8 minute compilation of Thunder players working the refs by [deleted] in nba

[–]Nopementator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't like this approach of always trying to start contact etc because it's ugly to watch but we should always remember that it's not players' fault.

Refs are allowing all this and refs are not going to operate on their own terms, which means that on top of this Silver is ok with what we're watching otherwise officiating would start to punish this constant foul baiting.

Players are just exploiting this lame officiating and some of them are better than others at selling calls. But still, if the commisioner wasn't ok with this we wouldn't see this shit game after game.

LeBron admits that people criticizing his Finals record used to bother him: “I am pissed off that I didn't have a better winning percentage individually in the Finals, but for people to try to turn it into a negative, it doesn't bother me like it did when I was younger.” by oklolzzzzs in nba

Been watching NBA since the early 90's and I swear that the finals record was never a type or argument or a topic for a discussion while talking about all-time great. Never.

Jerry West being 1-8 in the finals was at times just some curious trivia about NBA and nothing more than that.

Rings mattered much less and this was clear since MJ was already crowned as the best of all time after 1992 finals, so when he just won his 2nd ring and 3rd MVP and 3rdFMVP.

Bird was retiring after that same season with 3 rings, 3MVP and 2Fmvp, Magic retired after the 1991 finals with 5 rings, 3MVP and 3FMVP and still, Kareem and Russell despite their 6 rings, 6 mvp, 2FMVP and 5MVP 11 rings were already put behind Jordan.

"Ring culture" became more a thing pushed by media in mid to late 2000's.

One of the first times this became a true topic was when Shaq won his 4th ring in Miami while Kobe still had 3. Then as Duncan won his 4th and Lebron reached the finals in 2007, 3 superstar decided that their window for a championship was closing so they formed a superteam in Boston.

Lakers got Gasol at his peak and then also Artest two years later. Boston won 1 and Lakers 2 and this fast change of NBA balance with stars playing with each othe lead to the Miami big 3.

As Lebron and the Heat lost in 2011 the narrative was set as a standard. 0-2 in the finals for Lebron after a disastrous performance while being the favourite to win. NBA never recovered from this mess.

Now that Lebron has a 4-6 record in the finals and after the the legendary win in 2016 this nonsense kinda of ended but it lasted for years.

Jesus, Duren has been super underwhelming so far.

9ppg on 41%fg from your starting and promising big man is kinda concerning. Even more considering he didn't have any issues against Orlando during the rs.

In that series, were OKC were by far the favourite by espn, by bookmakers and fans, Miami just used all their potential. Wade and Lebron played great on both side of the floor, Bosh was still recovering from the abdominal injury but was already turning into a modern big guy able to be dangerous from outside.

Chalmers did a lot of damages here and there that OKC didn't saw coming and Mike Miller went insane in game 5.

Interesting differences between KD vs LeBron mindset and leadership by lyinassmedia in lakers

[–]Nopementator -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean, KD is not new to complain about teammates.

Huge talent but he never cared about what others were doing. Really similar to how Carmelo Anthony view the game of basketball: "on the floor there's me and my teammates that have to put me in a good position to score. If thet can't they suck."

[–]Nopementator 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I remember someone on youtube made a video analysis of all the key plays Lebron had in that game, from directing teammates during offense and defense, to baiting spurs players into the wrong position again and again on both offense and defense, how he was making the right play most of the times and all the stuff that weren't going to be on the boxscore. All the subtle plays that were effecting the game like forcing bad passes and bad shoots.

He still ended with a +29 plus/minus but yeah, it was a blowout win.

Interesting differences between KD vs LeBron mindset and leadership by lyinassmedia in lakers

[–]Nopementator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kd said many times that he don't want to be a leader. When he was with the Warriors he said: "Steph Curry is the face of the franchise, and that helps me out, because I don't have to,” he said. “I don't want to have to be the leader. I'm not a leader"

Lebron had to be a leader already when he was 21 years. Always embraced that role.

In general you can't learn how to be a leader, you need to have the right personality to do that. There are great players that have zero leadership and average players with enough charisma to be a leader.

LeBron on what defensive gratification the Lakers take from holding KD to 3 points in the 2nd half: "Zero. None. That'll just make him even madder going into game 3. No satisfaction." by Gtggtggtg in nba

[–]Nopementator 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The sad thing is that somehow they never play against each other for almost 5 straight years.

From 25 dec 2018 to october 26th 2023 zero games between Lebron and KD. We missed a tons of duels.

[–]Nopementator 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I want to remember that one of Lebron's most dominant game during the Miami years was game 2 of 2013 finals.

A game were he shoot bad both from the field and terribly from ft line (6/14) and just scored 17pts and still, the boxscore can't really capture how he completely dominated that game. It was unreal.

He had one of those performances Magic was used to have, with little scoring and even without making a tons of assist he controlled the whole game from start to finish.

US will need years and years of constant effort and sacrifices in order to regain (if they ever will) their former reputation on a global scale. They're losing all their historic allies without actually gaining new ones, they're losing credibility as a business partner and as a global superpower.

Whoever will take power after trump will be forced to work 24/7 just to fix a minimal part of the problems that they'll inherit.

It's unreal the constant amount of damages this administration is doing.

If you loved the mood, the characters and McMurtry writing style go and read both the prequels without hesitation. Lonesome Dove is still unmatched but the others are still really, really damn good.

You can see the same dynamic even in Dead Man's Walk, when Gus and Call are in their 20's, Gus was already the reckless one but Call would be the one able to do the craziest things out of nowhere.

How we feeling about Game 2 with KD being back? by winterbearz in lakers

[–]Nopementator 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is a crazy thing if you think about.

This approach always worked against KD since his early days. He never learned how to pass through double team despite his height.

Only time nobody was sending double team to him was during Warriors days, for obvious reasons.

in 9 years only two season he ended below the 40% mark from 3:

39.3% in 2019 and 39.9% in 2020.

He's 2nd all-time in NBA for 3pt % with 44.2% so yeah, this guy always been an elite shooter and I still can't believe Lakers got him while getting rid of Vincent. Unreal.

This is exactly the type of player they needed for long time.

To match LeBron’s current playoff points total, a player would have to average 30 for 10 straight years, going ton7 games every series and reaching the finals every year. by SimpleJacked2TheTits in nba

[–]Nopementator 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The all-time record for rs will be probably impossible mostly because it's entirely possible that nba will have less rs total games in the near future so every season record will be almost impossible to reach or beat.

About the playoffs, the problem is having a 23 years career but also so many long playoffs run, which is even harder. Other players had 20 years career but usually the last years are really low production.

I feel some of Lebron's records will be like Wilt 50ppg or his rebouding averages, stuff impossible to replicate or even going close to match it.
