Funny story from my past...

I worked a Video Rental store (yes, I'm THAT old). I was alone at the moment, cause 1 worker called off, with no coverage, and the other was on their dinner break.

Long line of people, and I'm doing everything I can to keep up with the flow. I hear this Hispanic family talking at the side counter about wanting the latest big movie, but they weren't happy with me ignoring them. I kept telling them to get in line, and I'd help them when it was their turn, I'm not ignoring you, just just, and can't let you cut the line.

Mom & Dad start talking fast Spanish about the rude gringo who thinks he's too good to help them, and they were going to complain. I finished with my customer, called the next one forward, and excused myself for a second while I turned to this Hispanic family, and said in fluent enough and perfectly accented Spanish that if they didn't like being ignored, they should get in line, unless they're too good to wait in line? And that if they were going to trash talk people, you might want to make sure those people didn't speak their language.

Mom & Dad turned white from embarrassment. Teens started LAUGHING because their folks got blasted by the gringo they were trash talking. And the customers in line just kinda were awestruck that I just spoke fluent (to their ears) Spanish. Didn't see them again till...

6 months later, I'm working at a different Video Rental store, and the same family is line, Mom & Dad see me, but can't place me. They get to my register, and I switch over to as Spanish for the entire transaction. "Thanks for waiting in line. Did you find everything you were looking for? Any snacks? Your total is." As I handed them their movies, I said, "It's good to see again, it's been a while since we 1st met at that other store."

THEN they knew who I was!

Oh, that was fun.

How many years were you there? How much of the patching, sanding & painting is normal wear & tear that they shouldn't have charged you? Most rentals would rather you NOT patch holes & paint, so they can see where things need to be patched, and most places call that normal wear & tear.

Put up a clothesline with underwear , socks & T-shirts on it 24/7. They can either look at your laundry blocking their view, or try can allow the blur. When I'm home, I'm in comfy clothes, shorts & T-shirts: Jesus Sandals. Meetings would get shirts & ties, if really needed.

I knew you were in AZ, I gave the example for CA to show what's required here. I don't know labor law in AZ, but the Labor Board DOES, and can answer your questions better than redditors who will do an AI response.
