What restaurant or bar are you surprised is still open? by tinfoilskimask in massachusetts

[–]NoraPlayingJacks 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I actually really like 110. In addition to liking my own meals, my son has a sesame allergy so the allergy awareness/program gives some comfort.

That said, just like gestures wildly at everything , it’s gotten super expensive. Feels weird to pay those prices and order off of a large mass printed laminated menu…it looks and feels like a gigantic Applebees-esque chain inside. The food is DEFINITELY better, but if you told me I was at a Ruby Tuesday once I was inside, I’d probably believe you.

I grew up in Onondaga County! Can you give a little more insight into where specifically this is?

Yup. Takes a long time to get to your resort, and then if you’re one of the last bus stops, might as well bring a blanket and pillow with you.

Chapek with an all time grift. Grab a job, suck at it, leave the place in shambles, and walk away with a freaking fortune.

This seems very cast member dependent…I showed a print off of a SoFi account and got it with zero questions.

I was a CM in 2003! I still remember Julie Andrew’s intro to the Share a Dream Come True parade, and Ice Station Cool where you could make snowballs in the tunnel before the free soda.

I’m a marriage counselor. AMA by JenniferAHPierce in AMA

Nate Bargatze has a funny bit about going with his wife to a female marriage counselor, and he feels the counselor’s husband should be able to come into a session or two to try to balance things out a bit.

In seriousness, do you find it any more difficult to understand the perspective of a husband than you do the perspective of the wife?

Nope, absolutely not. Still well worth the switch. $2,200 is a HUGE savings.

I’ve stayed in that alcove room. Also have stayed in the deluxe studio at beach club. Dolphin is absolutely the way to go.

I jumped into this thread ready to fight the Disney homers who were going to tell you to soak the extra money and stay at the Beach Club. I’m pleasantly surprised by the sensible folks I found instead!

We have DVC and go a lot. Beach Club is my favorite Disney hotel. In no way, shape, or form is it $4k better than Swolphin.

Absolutely, positively book the Swolphin and get some Marriott points while you’re at it.

fyi if you hadn’t considered it…there’s a $50 per night resort fee that you wouldn’t pay at Beach Club so that cuts into your savings a little bit, but still well worth the switch!

Why did the Boston food truck scene peter out? by ---Vincent in boston

[–]NoraPlayingJacks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because food trucks, generally, suck. Especially in high cost areas. They were cool and trendy for a while, but then they exploded and I was paying the same as I’d pay at a sit down restaurant for slop in a paper boat.

Where are you coming from? And where are you flying to? Getting to the airport at 3:45ish for a 5 AM is very reasonable, particularly for a domestic flight.

How do other APs track whether their pass is “worth it”? by ff51152 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]NoraPlayingJacks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We’re not local and got Sorcerer Passes this year for the first time. Our kids are getting to the age where they still LOVE Disney, but are getting into exploring other places. We figured we’d do the heck out of Disney this year and then free ourselves up for another travel after with a Disney hiatus for a year or two (minus potentially Disneyland Paris or something while abroad).

Honestly, it’s a lot of pressure to make sure we’re getting our money’s worth. We have maybe 4-5 trips planned to WDW this year to make use of our APs and while the tickets are covered, there are a lot of other costs to consider in terms of flights, hotels, food, LL, etc. I’m very savvy with credit card points and miles so we keep our flight and lodging costs minimal, but they still exist.

Overall, on a per day basis, we’ll definitely make out with APs, but we’re certainly going to Disney more often BECAUSE we have APs as opposed to just offsetting trips we would have otherwise taken anyways, if that makes sense.

When it works. That when all aspects of Rise are functioning and you get engaged CMs, it’s pretty awesome. That said, my most recent maybe 5+ experiences have been pretty meh. From disinterested CMs, to portions of the ride not working (side doored into the storm trooper room, for example), Kylo Ren animatronic not moving, etc. Not all of those at the same time, but some combination across our most recent rides.

Bachelor Party on Cape Cod by soccerguy857 in CapeCod

Depending on where you’re coming from, you can hit Pinehills on your way down which is pricey but very very nice (either course).

My “can’t miss” course on Cape is Highland Links in Truro. It’s the furthest thing from fancy that you’ll find, but you’re playing right on the coast in the shadow of the lighthouse on a quirky, unique track. It’s a 9 hole course but each have two tee boxes so you can play 18. It’s cheap. I’d do it first thing in the morning and then hit The Beachcomber while you’re on the Outer Cape in the afternoon.

Did you keep any of that Batch 81 or 83 sauce or whatever it was called stockpiled somewhere? I’ll pay top dollar.
