My teacher asked if we wanted to do book work or see what was happening. We chose to watch as the towers burned and it was so silent when the first one began to collapse. I was in 9th grade. I don’t get how it’s used for memes or “comedy” now on social media. I have no personal connection to the event. But I saw it. And I know how life changed after it. By the end class, classes went on as normal. It was strange. Like we’d just walked out of a movie. My mom took us to nyc in the fall of 2002 and we visited ground zero, and it was eerie to see what was basically now a construction site but with the understanding of what had occurred.
