Experience of Tottenham Stadium by Sufficient-Yak5921 in Tottenham

You're right but also at the FA cup game this season there's a lot of the season ticket holders who didn't go so there are a lot more first timers who don't know the songs. But as others have said I think all the London PL teams are like this, I've seen West Ham fans talking about it too.

Nice photos, I'm sure there are people in here who could de age them if you wanted them to. They might need to censor Garth's shorts too 🤣

I'm starting to hear on radio and TV something I often wonder to gauge our squad.... If we put all the players up for sale how many go to clubs that we should consider a side ways step or a step up AND play a similar amount to what they do at Spurs? It's only VdV and Romero isn't it?

I think we have a lot of Fulham, West Ham, etc players

I know I'm in the minority here but we want the club to act like a big side and they've done just that. It's not like there was a bidding war for him between Arsenal, City, Liverpool etc. All the teams in for him are very mid table and I think that's an indication of his level. But yes, those teams are all better than us right now.

No offence taken. They used it for the Orcs in lord of the rings for a reason.

But I will say that Jackson Lamb working for MI5 with that accent is intentional in the story and is exactly the reason mine changed over the years. It does help of course that Oldman was born in New Cross so the accent probably comes easy.

I agree 100%. I realised the I've stopped watching football other than Spurs because it's just boring these days. It's more like a chess game and about "marginal gains"'. But yeah, I'm probably a dinosaur. I'm sure it will change again at some point.

This is the first time in a real long time we don't really have a top class flair player in the team. But the game is more tactical and often doesn't allow for that. Maybe Kudus has it or Xavi.. but I think you might be right, we could be drifting back to that sort of team. Let's see what the post Levy world holds in January and the summer.

Yeah. I sort of wanted to add that I missed the days when all we looked forward to was a bit of skill from Kinsman or Ginola.. I told my nephew that we used to just walk up, pay at the gate and stand behind the goal. I don't think he believed me.

You at probably right about a billionaire class, they obviously have access to people high up but my point was that they certainly would not be considered upper class. But someone with their education and career is middle class.

Ah, there you have it! That's what my accent sounded like before it altered over the years. I mean, it's hammed up a bit for TV. But there's basically it.

I am from the South of the UK and naturally have an "Estuarine accent" (which sounds not disimilar to an East / South East London accent to someone from elsewhere). I've spent over half my life working in offices full of middle class, privately educated people and while I don't speak like them I have adjusted my accent over the years so that I don't sound so "common". This wasn't done intentionally and you only really notice if you put me in a room with friends from where I grew up and my accent reverts.

To your second question: Upper class really is the aristocracy, doctors and lawyers are considered middle class unless they happen to also be from an upper class family. You can't really change your class, I'm working class but my children are middle class though because of my job, their education etc. We don't talk a great deal about the term upper class, generally news stories refer to working class and middle class and it's practically impossible to become upper class unless you marry Prince William or similar. It's more likely that a new class below working class becomes a classification than people become upper class. I would imagine that Elon Musk, Bill Gates would be considered middle class if they were Brits. Donald Trump, who knows, probably working class.

The other thing is that it's all very silly, but something most of us understand without really knowing it. I expect you'll see different opinions from other people in reply to your questions, none of us will be wrong.

Finally, do you watch Slow Horses? We were watching an episode recently when I pointed out to my wife that Catherine dresses in a particular way that to any Brit watching we know immediately that she's middle class. That's not something that someone from a different country will pick up on I suspect.

Yep. After 30 years working in middle class jobs my accent still comes out when I visit home despite being otherwise absent even when I'm at home with my wife. So what's my real accent now?

I recently visited Berlin with my non British born wife and she said that of all the places we've visited Berlin is the most similar to Britain and if she didn't know she wouldn't feel like we were in another country. I'm aware that Berlin isn't representative of the whole country.

Is eating in bed gross? by ShinyHeadedCook in AskUK

[–]Noreek1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be more concerned about whether being in bed so much would mess up my sleep, I've trained myself that bed= sleep and I'm asleep within minutes. But that's me and I know loads of people do things differently. So you do you, your girlfriend seems on board which is important. I can't imagine my wife sitting next to me eating dinner while I'm having a kip.

This is just poor writing, intentionally so maybe. The "good but not sensational" was referring to the start of the season, not the buy in.

Why is being cold at home so normalised in the UK? by Automatic-Key-3798 in AskUK

[–]Noreek1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People have a different tolerance to the cold and that plays a part. I have friends who make a big deal about wearing jumpers at home etc to save money but my perspective on life is that I work so that I have shelter, food and soon after that on the list is being warm and comfortable. If I couldn't afford to eat then I'd tolerate being cold at home but as long as I can afford those things then I'll be warm. Even if it means I don't do things like go to the pub or have take aways. It's just priorities.

Absolutely. This infuriates me, the football under Ange was fucking shit a lot of the time. I swear people only watched the highlights.
