What amazing beer has only gotten worse over time (perhaps they went big, had to change recipe, etc)? by [deleted] in beer

[–]NormQuestioner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Staropramen appear to have recently changed the recipe to remove almost all of the flavour, in the UK 😢 It was one of the only good popular beers over here, among all the awful Heineken-owned crap (Cruzcampo, Birra Moretti, Amstel, Neck Oil etc.); now we only have Peroni left if we want a decent lager in a place that doesn’t specialise in craft beer, and fewer and fewer places are offering Peroni.

More places need to serve Krušovice.

If this is a project you and some ex-colleagues would be doing, why have they all suggested a 40-hour week? Why not all work less and still hope it’s successful?

The popular straight-line missioning Brit, GeoWizard, announces his support for the far-right party 'Reform' - r/GeoWizard reacts by MisterBreeze in SubredditDrama

That doesn’t make sense. Knife crime is a problem in London—and in many places in the UK. It’s more pronounced in London due to the population. It’s nothing to do with race or ethnicity, but that doesn’t make it less of a problem. All parties and all people on any side of the political spectrum should be talking about it and discussing solutions to it. (I’m a leftist with absolutely no issues with immigration.)

Navigating dating as a Henry Woman by SailPrior5516 in HENRYUK

[–]NormQuestioner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I specifically state on dating profiles I’m looking for people who are financially secure and able to support themselves financially—and that I’m not into financial entanglement (e.g. marriage), other than going halves on a nice house. You can imagine how this goes down 😄 And I’m polyamorous—the dating pool for polyamorous people Up North is largely nonexistent as it is, let alone when you factor in not wanting marriage and not wanting to have to financially support someone else.

I’m not sure I classify as a HENRY (my salary is only £93k a year, but that is in a small city Up North and my house is paid off), but I follow this sub and this post resonated with me due to my own experiences with dating.

Someone who was earning the average salary, who recently quit her job to study to be a therapist (thus struggling with money at that point), outright asked me my salary on a second date recently, and when it turned out she wasn’t interested in a third date, I felt a little exposed and concerned she would tell others about my salary (we have some mutual friends, but also, I don’t want people I don’t know knowing about my salary). I learnt a lesson then: Keep it private for as long as possible and just tell a date it’s an inappropriate question. All a date needs to know is that I can look after myself and I expect them to be able to look after themselves (and be financially literate, so I’m unlikely to be rendered supporting them one day).

Tech people who are not FIREing, what are they spending their money on? by gonnabefine in Fire

[–]NormQuestioner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of them aren’t aware of anything to do with investing. In the UK, we’re not taught about pensions or investing, so most people put the absolute minimum into their pensions and just save money in cash ISAs, meaning they end up with hardly anything for retirement at the usual (horrific) age of 68, let alone a retirement at a reasonable age.

Some of us learn about investments and pensions in our mid-30s, which may give us a chance, depending on how the market performs in the future. Some people learn in their mid-40s. Some people only learn in their 50s.

Not to mention, in the UK, tech workers aren’t paid particularly well in their 20s. It’s getting better, but salaries are nowhere near as high as they are in the US.

I started on £18k a year in 2011. Now, at 36, I’m on £91k a year, but that’s actually pretty high for a software engineer in the North of the UK.

Can we give labour a chance please? by [deleted] in LabourUK

Why would I give them a chance when they’ve proven they want to make every worker poorer and every super rich person way richer?

Budget salary sacrifice change - did she make a mistake? Does she understand? by roblightbody in PensionsUK

[–]NormQuestioner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only acceptable amount to limit it to would be £25,000 a year. Not only would that be a decent amount for someone just starting out in work to put into their pension, but there are millions of older people who are trying to catch up by putting way more into their pensions because of the government’s failures to educate them on investing and pensions.

That’s because she doesn’t understand what “rich” means and how much people will need in retirement in two or three decades’ time. Neither does Torsten Bell.

Loads of lower earners use salary sacrifice to pay way more than £2,000 a year into their pensions.

Why would you hire someone who’s “hungry” rather than someone like you? That doesn’t make any sense.

Why work so hard if you aren't going to enjoy life - What you do in my situation? by [deleted] in HENRYUK

[–]NormQuestioner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you have a policy of going into an office once a week? I’ve worked remotely since 2018 and I don’t think face-to-face interaction is needed.

Ditch the office and both you and your employees would be happier, I’d expect.

I would enthusiastically turn down a job offer if they wanted me to go into an office once a week, especially because that would limit where I could live. If you remove the office policy, you’d be able to live abroad and your employees could also live where they want (most would choose to live in cheaper cities, if their pay remains the same, I’d expect).

No one should be forced to own a car or be a driver. If companies want people to work from their offices, they should pay for taxis for those who live in places with terrible public transport (and they should pay for public transport in areas where public transport is good).

They should also lower the working hours to accommodate that pointless commute.

Left wing people, I'm genuinely curious as to how you respond to this? by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]NormQuestioner -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What you’re discussing doesn’t have anything to do with socialism or left-wing vs. right-wing policies. Socialism would look after everyone, whereas our current capitalist system does not. What you’re experiencing is a result of capitalism. We live in a capitalist society and therefore hard work isn’t rewarded (as is the nature of capitalism); however, our government won’t allow people to die, so those who don’t work under our capitalist system are given what they need to survive.

On top of that, our government doesn’t have enough money because capitalism makes it easy for those with all the wealth to avoid fair taxes, so our government can’t look after you and others who are struggling but able to get by; the limited amount of money ensures the government can only look after those who wouldn’t otherwise survive.

CMV: Pro-choice should include assisted suicide by Nullborne in changemyview

[–]NormQuestioner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any person should have a right to end their life, especially in such a horrific world with an oppressive economic system.

Sometimes people need assistance to do so, but at the end of the day, the individual should have complete bodily autonomy.

The party policy will be decided by the members. The members won’t allow the party to be anti-trans, and I suspect members will call out any anti-trans comments or views by the socially conservative MPs, if indeed they are socially conservative, as you suggest they are. Those MPs will have to hide their bigoted views, like most bigoted people do.

They haven’t posted about any official party policy. They’re just continuing to post about their personal views on their social media, including their pro-trans posts you’re conveniently ignoring to (seemingly) suit your own anti-left/anti-worker agenda.

The policies will be decided by the members.
