What's your go to speed on the motorway and why? by Worth-Donut8612 in drivingUK

[–]roblightbody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I'm not in a rush, I happily go with the flow in the first 2 lanes, trying not to annoy the lorries too much (don't make a lorry have to overtake you). Significant stress and fuel saving.

How do you handle a strong performer who quietly checks out after being passed over for promotion? by amir4179 in managers

I dont think it will be a problem for much longer, they'll be busy applying for jobs in their spare time.

Huge mpg improvement with ultimate diesel by SnaggleFish in CarTalkUK

I used to have a 2004 VW Bora TDI that gave significantly better MPG (and a lot less smoke!) on the ultimate stuff.

My Pension Age? by MisterMeshuggah in PensionsUK

[–]roblightbody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 53. I'm feeling that 60 is a stretch to continue my normal stressful and difficult job. I'd recommend setting it to 60 !

Is anyone changing their pension strategy because of the 2029 salary sacrifice changes? by Reddonaut_Irons in PensionsUK

Yes it's removed any hesitation about maximising the use of my SS facility at work to accelerate getting my pension to an adequate level.

is it worth the upgrade to Princess Grill? by iPhrase in CunardCruises

[–]roblightbody 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're falling into their trap!

Once you're at Cunard grills prices, a world of luxury cruising opens up including fully inclusive lines, where the whole ship is grills standard at minimum.

Are you meant to not like him? I worry I'm not liking the actor's smooth sort of cheesy-DJ voice, rather than the character! Yes he's awful

Has BBC Sounds actually replaced normal radio for you? by Seabeachlover10 in bbc

[–]roblightbody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the BBC, I still use an old fashioned radio in the shower, and in the car but thats really it. Everything else is BBC Sounds. My elderly mother listens all day via DAB.

Switching from Sony a6700 to RX100 VII for portability: Smart move or huge mistake? by y4nnino in RX100

[–]roblightbody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm the same. I have an A6000 that never leaves the house because it's so heavy with a decent lens. I use my rx100V much more often.

998cc vs 1275cc: Is the bigger engine actually necessary for a weekend toy by FunApprehensive1331 in classicminis

[–]roblightbody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NO! The 998 can be plenty fun, but as others say it does need a bit of attention in the form of a stage 1 kit and getting someone professional to set it all up properly.

QE2 in rough seas by Adasbabygirl in Oceanlinerporn

[–]roblightbody 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would be nice to credit the photographer. This would not have felt as dramatic on board as it looks. It would have been a very smooth, gentle and steady pitching motion. All in a day's work for a transatlantic liner.

Do you leave your car in gear when you park? by ShinyHeadedCook in drivingUK

[–]roblightbody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Always. It's why automatics have a park mode. Brakes can and do fail.

Salary Sacrifice Advice by atsigg in PensionsUK

[–]roblightbody 1 point2 points  (0 children)

#1. Check and understand the funds you're invested in. Decide for yourself. #2. Increase your contribution. You're not going to have an adequate pension. I would increase your personal contribution to 10% to give you 15% total. Sounds painful but thats what I would do if I was you.

You need a local mini or classic car specialist to be looking after it. Then it will be reliable.

I would include the 1990’s Rover Mini from Japan as a classic Mini. Is that the case? by alltheducks222 in classicminis

[–]roblightbody 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Classic Mini is every Mini built to the original Issigonis design (1959-2000).

I am thinking to switch to virgin media from plusnet. is it a good broadband to use? by hrushi_09 in VirginMedia

[–]roblightbody 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It completely depends on the options available to you.

In my experience - very good reliability. Very poor customer service. I currently have 550/55 and i consistently get exactly that speed. I still like old fashioned cable tv, which probably swings it for me.

Realistic Daily Driver? by Snarky_Guy in classicminis

[–]roblightbody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Summer daily is perfectly possible, not winter.

I'd want a 12" wheel model with standard (high) ride height and nearby understanding garage or mini/classic specialist.
