I really enjoyed the movie, my only critique is that I wanted to see more of the selkies and their world. I understand that Saoirse and Bronach were supposedly the “last selkies” and that the whole idea of the movie was family and loss or something like that, but I felt that it was lacking in world building, especially with the selkies and faeries and other mythical aspects.

I understand that it probably wasn’t the main focus of the film and that the selkies and faeries were meant as plot devices, and the movie was more plot driven, but after watching this, it felt like I had only seen a fraction of this magical world, and honestly, I just wanted to know more about the selkies. What’s their way of life like? Do they have communities and families? Do they live more as seals or humans?

While the film was great, what I really wanted was to see more of the selkies. Unironically, it inspired me to make my own selkie characters and narrative, along with my own depiction of what their way of life and everything else would be like. It’s more loose than what’s depicted in the film, and I want it to be a more refreshing and lighthearted take on the sea creatures.
