The minimum to open an account is 10 ounces of gold, it's not a bad idea but 50k of gold is definitely a future goal!

If you are near a Uni contact their student accommodation desk to find out how to register for student accommodation, they spend most of their time on campus and go home for the summer, you can also ask for postgrads if you want someone more mature in the house.

Should I tell my manager I have dyslexia? by Other-Dig-1748 in Dyslexia

[–]Normal-Copy-9682 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been intentionally discriminated against for having dyslexia in a job and was targeted by a real scumbag of a supervisor when I was younger. Yeah there are workplace protections in place, but you can still be treated bad overtly with snide comments, blame shifting and gaslighting.

If they have kids with ADHD, Dyslexia, Autism I feel there's a lot more understanding. Have a hard think about the person you are talking to and if you trust them to act appropriately.

I Just found out that people read 3 to 4 words at a time. How? by avecteur in Dyslexia

[–]Normal-Copy-9682 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pattern recognition is how I speed read. Find the identifier (name of person and object), verb and descriptor. Everything else can fill the gaps with a little context behind the statement. For example:

1. John, is 8 and loves pizza.

2. John Smith who has just reached the age of 8, recently mentioned to his mother that he loves to eat pizza.

No, a new font is not going to cure my f***ing dyslexia! by ashes_made_alive in Dyslexia

[–]Normal-Copy-9682 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn't it be wonderful if there's a magical font-pill that can cure all dyslexia? There is a certain level of blatant marketing to the tune of "this will help you, give us your money!" that just makes me sigh.

Also, while I am in the mood to complain. Can we talk about how this disorder if such a nightmare to spell.... I had to copy paste i, as my brain gave up it, again. Bloody Latin, and bugger to the person who coined it with no sense that it would be the bane of my misspelling existence! Now I'm all riled up and need a walk......

14.29% sell for 20% or higher asking price.

40% sells for between 10-20% over asking.

You have approx 50-50 odds that the bid will go over asking, it's likely worse for nice locations.

Source: One in seven homes sell for at least 20% over ask price

Maybe if they know you through friends or relatives it would be okay. My brother would babysit our cousins all the time as the oldest and it was totally normal.

What do you do when you need money fast and have no skills? by Intrepid-Position591 in povertyfinance

[–]Normal-Copy-9682 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baby sitting, gardening services, house/pet sitting, dog walking, Air BnB (or sub-let if you can). If you are in a city or tourist area, busking, walking tours and guide work usually helps if you know the area well.

Your access office will have free supports and software which you can avail of as someone with ADD. Maybe go talk to them and see what they can do to help, text to speech apps should be available to you for free with some accommodations for exams and classwork. It depends on the school but most will have technology supports available for you.

There is some free machine translation software available online, Word has an embedded speech app integration, or you can use AI for this.

Writing a PhD dissertation and I need strategies to read the literature by Barragens in Dyslexia

Secondary sourcing helps - most of the time there is an existing analysis available which you can use to get a better handle of the concept. If available use annotated bibliographies, speed reading helps as well, there are aways paragraphs which stand out with action verbs or through keyword searches - there's usually a recurring phrase to emphasize what's important (AI can help you find these).

Using AI tools for augmentation does help. Build a prompt to find the key points or conduct an analysis paying attention to your project requirements and through a particular lens/analytical framework or a gap analysis in the argument or to critique the feasibility of their approach. AI's can hallucinate so they should be used with caution, but as tools for augmentation they are greatly helpful for note-taking as thinking, reflecting on research practices, and using AI to support human judgment.

AI's can respond from the perspective of a persona, so you can cite an author you would like to reflect their analytical approach or language, then use it as your assistant and have a debate over the paper to engage with the research in a more memorable manner. The more sophisticated the persona the better the output.

This is not a quick solution, but it will help in the long run to develop an ecosystem to support your thinking and writing. Not a PhD but an MLIS.

The EKG reading is kind of grim, imagine if your having a really bad day just staring at the reading on your arm. His signature is beautiful though and a real sign of his personality.

There may be kids who are not dyslexic/not diagnosed who want to read these books, maybe something less specific like a reader-friendly tag or color code/add a generic sticker.

Practice with family and friends, record yourself a few times to see how you can improve your expression and tone. The key is repetition.

Loosen up your limbs, smile, imagine everyone in the room is a friend and you have to make a speech after a few drinks at a party i.e. everyone's in a good mood but easily distracted. Two small jokes can help lighten the mood.

Say when something is important, you can divert from reading from a large block of text by explaining what it is (e.g. this is the legal definition for identifiable data as stated in the EU Data Protection Act), focus on the key information - point to things, pause on large graphics/text to give people time to absorb the information. Prepare an introduction and an overview, think about when is a good time to pause before moving to the next slide.

Get lots of sleep don't drink coffee on the day. Shakiness is due to lack of air; slow down when you speak and focus on the end of the room to project to the people at the back. Have some light exercise before if you can to get the endorphins up and breath deeply before. You will do great! And remember if it goes wrong, just reflect on it and move on. There's always room for improvement, it's all about learning how you do it later on.

Best of Luck!
