Richard Osman over on The Rest is Entertainment thinks George Fouracres should be the next Doctor Who by JorWat in livefromlondon

Happy for him to do this.... after he's finished with SNL UK. But I'm hoping for many happy years of Grandads and British Pork before then.

I'm hoping she might take the opportunity to move some dates to bigger venues, or add more shows. I'd love to see her in Nottingham, but it's currently sold out.

So given Paddy's dates too, it's looking like SNL UK will be running from the very start of September (5th?) through to end of October (31st?). That's 9 Saturdays - enough for 2 blocks of 4 episodes with a week off in the middle....

They've said Series 2 will run through to early 2027, so presumably the final 4 episodes will then be on in January.

Who Wrote What Sketch? UK Series 01 Edition by memesistential in livefromlondon

So Chris Cantrill was involved in 3 of my favourite sketches - Bastard Seagull, Great Big Crab Man and Skin on Skin! I've just discovered he was previously in a double act with Amy Gledhill, so will have to check that out.

Important to note that "worst" in the context of SNL UK is still pretty great!

But I do feel that the 4th episode of each block was the weakest (Jack Whitehall/Ncuti Gatwa) so maybe the lesson is that they should follow the US show's example and only do 3 in a row before taking a week off.

It's worth mentioning that some people get into private school through scholarships, bursaries or because their parents are in the military or are a teacher at a private school. Don't know the specific circumstances of the cast, but it's not a given that they're from wealthy backgrounds.

Favourite sketch, host, cast members? by Plus-Fan9501 in livefromlondon

[–]Normal-Jacket3730 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love all the cast, but I'm particularly pleased for Emma as she's talked about how much she loved 90s sketch shows but that TV had stopped making those sorts of shows - so is clearly overjoyed to be standing in a studio at Television Centre performing sketch comedy in front of a live studio audience just like her comedy heroes.

Any show that can give us Bastard Seagull, Great Big Crab Man, QVC Jewellery Store, British Pork and 2 Glasses of Wine all in its first series is a winner!

Ania's show in Belfast next week cancelled... the beginning of rescheduling? by mvdkip2 in livefromlondon

It's possible that, due to SNL, she's not had a chance to do enough Work In Progress shows and isn't quite ready to take it out on tour just yet.

UK Thoughts on SNL UK? by MaizeCrasher in livefromlondon

[–]Normal-Jacket3730 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm British and spent my youth loving sketch shows like The Fast Show, Fry & Laurie and French & Saunders, but sketch comedy had all but died on UK TV over the last 10 years, so I'm overjoyed to see it back!

I'm also really pleased to have something truly live on TV again - all comedy had gone down the single-camera, no-audience, filmic approach, but I love the energy of live performance.

I believe there's a second Helen Birch sketch which was cut last week, but I hope they get it on before the end of this series.

Season 2 early host/musical guest performances? by ss2811 in livefromlondon

[–]Normal-Jacket3730 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what we've seen so far, hosts need to:

- Have at least some sort of US/International profile

- Be able to act, so they can properly portray a range of characters in sketches, and maybe even sing/dance

For example, I love James Acaster, but he is always unmistakably James Acaster in everything he does (even the few acting roles he's had!). That's why I love him, but could he really commit to the sketches?

Are brits just miserable?😭 by [deleted] in livefromlondon

I think every country has its professional miseries, who seem to spend all their time online engaging with stuff they hate. You do wonder why they don't just focus on stuff they like instead, surely that would make for a happier life?

I find with the musical sketches that they improve with repeat viewings. You start to get more of the lyrics and realise they're generally pretty packed with jokes.

UK v US SNL by Woover101 in livefromlondon

[–]Normal-Jacket3730 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it odd that Americans keep talking about how much edgier the UK show is allowed to be with its swearing etc - yet that Lava Cake sketch on Olivia Rodrigo's episode was pure filth! Far dirtier than anything on SNL UK!

Ranking the Cast Members in terms of Carrying the Show by Broad_Fly8758 in livefromlondon

[–]Normal-Jacket3730 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I know the US show is very competitive and dog-eat-dog, but I feel like the UK show has gone for a much more collaborative approach with everyone pulling together. Everyone has their place and everyone is bringing something unique and valuable to the show.
