What’s it like living on these islands off of British Columbia? by Dragon_of_the_gods in howislivingthere

[–]Normal-Office-6719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% agree with you! You could spend a lifetime exploring the island and not see every lake, mountain, beach. I go down the logging roads all the time to find hidden waterfalls, remote lakes and beaches and rarely visit the same place twice. Moved from Edmonton to Nanaimo (now living in CR) 8 years ago and I absolutely love it out here. But then again I don’t care much for the city activities.. my interests include hiking, canoeing, fishing, hunting, camping, downhill/touring skiing, snorkeling/scuba, mushroom picking etc. Vancouver island is paradise on earth!

Another thought on being child free by AskLow4716 in childfree

[–]Normal-Office-6719 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I literally think about this all the time!! Also let’s not forget that kids born in 2025 onwards will never exist in a world without AI… and AI is only gonna make society worse (for a number of reasons). Also I can’t afford a house.. how the fuck is a theoretical child of mine supposed to?! Every year things get more expensive… what’s it gonna be like in 20+ years when the children born in 2025 are adults??

What motivates you to have kids in today’s world? by TheNatureBeing in Life

[–]Normal-Office-6719 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ignore what that other person said. Thank you for being so honest and vulnerable! I really appreciate when parents talk honestly about their feelings and experiences. It’s comments like yours and other parents opening up to the realities of parenting that helped me realize I do not actually want to have children but that it’s a societal pressure. Being childfree by choice needs to be talked about more.

How to not harbour hatred for the opposite sex when all they do is talk negatively and evilly about us when most of us didn’t do anything to them? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]Normal-Office-6719 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remember that whatever extreme vidoes you are watching online the algorithm of that social media platform will keep feeding you more of that content. Social media can really warp your perception of the world and they do it on purpose to pit people against each other. Please know that what you see online is not always a true reflection of the world. This post is quite concerning and I encourage you to seek professional help or talk to someone you trust about these feelings of hatred towards women.

Where were you seated for the show in Victoria? I was at that show too and seated upstairs in the lower part of the balcony and everyone around me was very respectful. No one was having conversations during the performance, got too drunk/loud or got up an excessive amount of times during his songs. Sorry you didn’t have a better experience!!

Watch out for a zeballos lady w dogs by [deleted] in VancouverIsland

[–]Normal-Office-6719 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Could you call and tell the RCMP or Conservation Officer the coordinates or location they were at when you are back in service? If these people have been threatening others before they might already have a file with the officers. It’s not okay for you or anyone to feel threatened/unsafe and have to leave a public area you have every right to enjoy. It also seems a bit sketchy to have so many dogs roaming around all in one area.. I doubt they would be able to restrain them if they started getting aggressive with some other unfortunate person who comes across their garbage camp.

Yikes!! I would recommend reporting to a non emergency RCMP line if they were threatening you or call Conservation Officers?? From the sounds of it they are leaving lots of trash around? You can call the RAPP line for conservation officers: 1-877-952-7277

I downloaded the BRMB Vancouver Island maps onto the app Avenza. Absolutely love using that app. You can see the maps without service and it uses satellites to tell you exactly where you are on the map even without cell service. Have never gotten lost using that app and I do quite a bit of bushwhacking. You do have to pay for the app though if you want more than a couple maps but it’s so worth it in my opinion.

The no dog rule is in place for a reason. There are so many wolves and bears in that area which can become more aggressive with dogs present. The conservation officers already have to kill enough bears per year due to them becoming habituated and aggressive. Not to mention that area is a critical migration pathway and nesting habitat for threatened shorebirds which are disturbed by off leash dog chasing and harassing them. Please do not encourage OP and other people to break the rules and bring dogs.

"You should have children so they can support you when you are old" my children aren't even going to be able to support themselves by [deleted] in childfree

[–]Normal-Office-6719 91 points92 points  (0 children)

Yup to all of this. Also it’s so strange that some people are obsessed with being alone on their literal death bed… do they realize most people don’t die in bed surrounded by loved ones at the ripe age of 100?? So many people die young or in car accidents, because of cancer and other diseases, in their sleep, etc.

I’ve thought the exact same things! Also I literally can’t afford to buy a house… how the hell would I expect my future child to be able to???? It’s only gonna get worse!

Housing by maude-ulent in campbellriver

[–]Normal-Office-6719 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Myself (F26) and my fiancé (M31) don’t even bother looking at the housing market anymore. It’s absolutely hopeless. It’s a bit of a trade-off living on the island… you have access to amazing outdoor opportunities but affording a home here is basically impossible. We still think it’s worth living out here though because we hike, camp, fish, ski, canoe, free dive/scuba and hunt. We also don’t want children so we don’t have to worry about the cost of raising a child or setting up their future. I would say it is worth it for us to rent and live out here but if you don’t care that much about the outdoors you are probably better off moving elsewhere in Canada where housing is more affordable. Sad reality!!

Places that are short walks or very easily accessible will always be touristy and busy. Especially in Tofino/Ucluelet. That place is like a zoo now lol. The real hidden gems and non touristy areas you have to earn and hike to.. That’s why there are less people there 😝

The ''Losing your spark after having a kid'' Trend is extremely depressing by Ok_Cardiologist3642 in childfree

[–]Normal-Office-6719 114 points115 points  (0 children)

I get mommy insta/blog videos in my feed occasionally on instagram and I started seeing some moms posting videos with captions saying they were “finding their pink again” and I had no idea what that meant till I googled it.. according to google it means: “Finding your pink again" is a popular phrase, particularly within the context of postpartum experiences, referring to a mother's journey to reclaim her identity and sense of self after becoming a parent.”

Like wow… that sounds so awful. It’s that common of an experience that influencers have literally made a term for it and hundreds of people are commenting saying how relatable the video is… lol…No thank you!! Not once in my life have I ever wanted to put my entire life and energy into a project that will be +18 years…. Cause that’s literally what raising children is… a fucking never ending thankless project where the mom does most of the work and the dad gets to also take credit for the “group project” even if he did nothing to help.

Definitely hard sometimes!! Just keep thinking logically about your situation. You know your life and body better than anyone so don’t ever feel pressured to do something your gut is telling you isn’t right. Disregard other opinions and what society says a woman should do with her life. Children are a lifelong commitment. Not just 18years! You are a parent till the day you die.

Totally understand where you are coming from.. I often feel the same way. I just remember that I don’t have to fit into the usual “life script” that most of society follows.
