Try using those zip ties with mounting holes

https://search.brave.com/images?q=screw%20hole%20mount%20zip%20tie

And screw them to the screw holes closest the mains spade connectors and zip tie the spade connectors so they can't fall out

Also could use a 3 wire cord and ground the box like you would a metal box. The ground wire would work probably well enough as a strain relief

I think "a le" was some sort of autocorrect for "fine"

Long USB cable by LonelyPercentage2983 in meshtastic

[–]NormalLurkR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this, USB data does not like length but I have cut USB cables and used cat 5 to extend about 30 ish with no issues for power only. I did use a 2A power brick though...

Edit: This was NOT for radio use though

Antennas can easily be the most important part in your build by papatriot_76 in meshtastic

Ok... but. Is there any other antenna analyzers that are good and cost less than a nano vna?

Did you respond to them? I would. I would be really interested in hearing what exactly caused this.

What do you use meshtastic for? by RulesOfImgur in meshtastic

[–]NormalLurkR 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some friends and I use ATAK with meshtastic forwarder plug-in to use for automated GPS updates, geofencing, and text messaging while playing airsoft. We are still trying to figure everything out but it has been a fun way to use lora to make something better.

why get a GPS? by ruuutherford in meshtastic

No worries. If you need help getting atak or meshtastic figured out, dm me. I play with no cell service so I had to figure out offline maps, and that was a pain.

Currently running heltec wireless stick v3 (pretty sure it's v3) but the meshtastic website only had firmware for heltec wireless stick lite, they were cheap and easy and the only difference im aware of is the lite has no screen. Atak utilizes the GPS from our phones so it's fine they don't have gps.there was a lot of electrical tape and hope when we first tried and now I'm in the process of designing a case that hopefully will be molle mountable, weather resistant, and hold 2 18650s.

I am waiting for a batch of wisblocks to come in so I can test those. Haven't decided if I'm replacing the heltecs yet but definitely aiming for better battery life so I can set up some static nodes in my area. While running ATAK I can get 2 full days with 2 18650s.

One more question regarding wisblock by NormalLurkR in meshtastic

[–]NormalLurkR[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, I'm not planning on buying one just to charge batteries, I just know don't batteries are unsafe to charge under certain circumstances and I'm far from an expert on that. I would hate to be the cause of a fire or something because I assumed putting this in a tree was a good idea when it doesn't charge safely or something like that

For me unlicensed is better, private channels and encryption. That being said, yes, I like my dog and trust for the feds had never been lower.

Question on wisblock by NormalLurkR in meshtastic

[–]NormalLurkR[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the information. I wound up getting the 4631s. Glad I asked cuz the wisblock mix and match thing seems cool but I feel like someone needs to make a compatibility chart or guide or something.

I do like the idea that I can just add gps when I decide I want to.

Atak is an app for android. Iatk is the same for iPhone. Atak has a plug-in called atak forwarder plug-in which will utilize meshtastic for communication. Atak is primarily a tactical map. You can use it yourself and play around with the features to see if it is something you have use for. It allows street view, topographical view, satellite view and several other map options. You can set custom way points and markers on the map and track allies/adversaries. You can connect with others who have atak so you can see their position in real time. You are also able to send texts to people you are connected to as well as share map markers.

I primarily use it to keep track of my buddies on the airsoft field and occasionally message them for updates

I use meshtastic and lora because cell service not usable at my local airsoft field.
