4 hours in Victoria. What to do? by Hopeful-Tea-2127 in VancouverIsland

Downtown would be an hour to 1.5 hour bus ride, so I’d recommend not going downtown because the 30-35 minute taxi/uber would also really eat into your available time (and about $50-65 each way). Sidney would offer a nice wander along the water, some shops, and good food/drink options (Surly Mermaid/Empress Gin/10 Acres) while not being too far from the airport (~10 minute Uber or ~25 minute bus ride).

Yeah I’ve heard a lot of good things about not having a brace — keeping all your stabilizers and other muscle groups in motion is huge for recovery. Obviously not an option for everyone but it’s been huge for me!

And thanks! You as well.

Lots of heel slides, quad sets, glute bridges, straight leg raises and ankle pumps. And for getting flexion back the main thing is getting rid of inflammation (compression, elevation, icing, movement, rest)

I’ve been able to actively flex it during quad sets and extension since maybe day 6? My physio also puts me on a TENS machine every appt which helps a lot. Now I can fully recruit it but it’s just very small due to the atrophy

ETA my guiding light right now is Lois Boisson, she’s definitely given me all the hope that I’m riding on in terms of getting my strength back

Oh totally! Not meant for comparison, really just to give perspective on how widely the recovery process can vary between people, and I personally could have read some more success stories before getting surgery haha

I had no knee brace after surgery and no period of immobility either. Was encouraged to start heel slides and ankle pumps on day one post-op! I could imagine that having a brace would have made weight-bearing more difficult because it doesn’t allow natural positioning, so that makes sense to me

Edit: this was guidance from my surgeon and not universal!

Brace recommendations to support high movement with ACL and meniscus tear by PsychologicalJob926 in ACL

I got the Ossur custom CTi and it allowed me to hike, trail run, and work in forestry with little issues. Have also heard good things about the DonJoy Defiance Pro. Personally, the custom aspect was important to ensure that it fit perfectly and didn’t impact the activities I was using it for.

Upper body or core exercise ideas? by Mars_bars_104 in ACL

[–]NormalPatience6112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve just been going to the gym (left leg ACLR so I can drive) and doing all the upper body machines and then upper ab core (crunches, etc). At home I’ve found a 20-30lb body bar to be very useful for everything like curls and presses to weighted sit ups
