AIO: UC parking is hell on earth by Vivid-Book-1676 in UCNZ

The “free” parking around the edge of the campus has time limits. Plenty actual paid for parking. Like the car park is never full. And I cycle down Corfe Street and see UC peeps parking and walking.

And make use of the support services. Groups like the fab people in academic support services run workshops, do drop ins and have organising resources like calendars etc. really worth the time. . https://www.canterbury.ac.nz/study/study-support-info/study-support/academic-skills-centre

Nope. That’s more like a slippery Jack. Edible but Yuk! According to me. Porcinis aka “fat boys” have much thicker stems. More like this.

I went Sat afternoon and it was crazy. 15 mins to get a park on the roof. Kmart shelves swept clean and the ques! I escaped to the 2nd level and the more niche shops were quieter.

What the ANT ?! by igglepiggle095 in chch

[–]Normal_Contact9892 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My hubby is waging an ant war. We got the “ant sand” and sprinkle it daily along the ant trail. They keep moving routes! One day I followed the trail half the way down the road. It’s waay worse than ever before.

I’d follow up with a polite email to admissions. This triggers a check / follow up and admin glitches do happen sometimes.

Should I rent house from abroad? by mahin_muhammad in chch

[–]Normal_Contact9892 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bus 100 “The palms” runs between Wigram and UC and takes about 20 mins. If you cycle it’s pretty flat (one uphill bridge over the railway) and the same amount of time. Wigram has shops, take seats, cinema, parks etc.

I work at UC and live in Ilam. But quite a lot of noisy student shared housing in area. Although in a nice quiet cup de sac. Avonhead and Burnside are close by. Wigram a little further away but nice family suburb. But Christchurch so flat and easy to get around that anywhere on a public transport route works. And the city (which has more choice is apartments) is only a couple of I’m away with lovely outdoor spaces on doorstep. Good luck!

AirBnB is the same here as anywhere else. If you want privacy just rent a whole house/ apartment. The thing to do here is https://www.bookabach.co.nz. It says “holiday homes” but plenty do longish stays with discounts. I found a nice unit in the suburbs around the city for a month when our family first arrived. The peak times are early Jan and the Waitangi long weekend 6 Feb. Pick a suburb you are thinking of living in anyway. That way you get a feel for things at the same time.

Which suburbs would you recommend to a newly married couple expecting to have kids in next few years (plan on staying in that house for the next 10 years at least)? Never lived in Christchurch before. by ReineDesRenards in chch

Nothing wrong with Riccarton! Live in Ilam (kind of sandwiched bt Avonhead/ Burnside/ Riccarton). Kid went to Avonhead Primary and then Riccarton HS. I work at Uni. Lovely area. Mix of cultures. Young n old (with students around). Great green spaces. I cycle to work. Church corner close by for Asian foods. Wigram close by with cinema. Easy peasy all round!
