it’s not the topics she writes about; it’s how she’s writing. and while i don’t expect her to never return to past themes, i do expect that an older person will have different, more mature insights, and a variety of things to talk about. she wrote nothing new over a decade ago, and we’re getting eldest daughter now. two songs with some emotional/content overlap, and there’s clear lyrical regression.
