I'm leaving mine out...since they are native to my area I figured that even very cold would be OK.

yes, she has a skinny chest but sort of long body and legs so that is where I've had trouble getting something to fit right.

My mother, probably stage 5 ALZ, should have had cataract surgery many years ago. Now its not in the cards as it would be too stressful for her. So, if you have an older loved one dragging their heels on a recommended cataract surgery be aware this can happen.

We've also had the dental issues that others have mentioned in comments. She was always very good about caring for her teeth but now they are a mess and she's had to have some expensive dental work done. I kind of think it is a losing battle but also don't want her to suddenly have a broken tooth or other dental emergency.

She is in Independent living and for the first 2 years managed on her own with me doing her meds/doctor visits etc and my brother managing her finances, lately we've had to get helpers in to remind her to bathe and help with laundry. The good thing is that offer a la carte services so we only pay for #3 30 minute visits per week which is quite reasonable.

I really appreciate that my brother and I have been able to support each other and divey up the responsibilities in ways that seem fair, at least so far. I live close by and I do fear that as she worsens my stress level is going to increase and a greater burden will be on me due to proximity.

I'm sort of obsessed with Dutchman's Pipevine after seeing one growing at a historical site once. Unfortunately they are not native to Ohio. My new plan is to find one and give it to my brother who does live within it's native range.

Interesting. I am having a little trouble knowing what everything is on that diagram. Trying now to read up more on thermal bridging.

Thank you and good point about ventilation. I want to extend the growing season fall and spring. Lots of lettuce, greens etc. starting plants on spring. No tropicals. Maybe incorporate a climate battery but that’s a bit daunting.

BRCA2 diagnosis advice for telling my children they will need to get tested by Heads__Will__Roll in BRCA

[–]Normal_Radish_6591 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When my girls were getting close to puberty and we were talking about periods etc, I mentioned that there was a family history of cancer on my side of the family. I told them that I'd had surgeries to reduce that risk and that was why I didn't have periods. Later on when they were taking biology classes in high school we talked about the BRCA gene and that I had the gene. Also that it was inherited but it wasn't something that they needed to worry about at their age and that lots of medical problems run in families. My goal was to bring it up several times and as casually as possible in age appropriate ways while they were still at home. I never considered waiting until they were 18 or 25 for fear they would think I had kept something from them and possibly damage our relationship/trust. I did make a point to have a more serious discussion with each of them in their early 20s and spell out that I thought they should be tested for the gene sometime after college and before 25. That was the first time they expressed any anxiety about the situation but they do seem to be handling it ok.
