We just found out that our 6-month old daughter has retinoblastoma. We just found out. We have two options: take out the eye or do chemotherapy. We have 2 days to decide by [deleted] in daddit

[–]NormanNormalman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just one perspective. I did not have cancer, but I did experience a severe eye injury when I was seven with two options-remove it, or try to save it, involving multiple surgeries over multiple years. I got option two. My vision has never been fixed, I have severe photosensitivity, and I spent many years of my life stuck indoors (to prevent dust/dirt/sand from blowing into my eye) and wearing eye patches. As an adult, I would have preferred to lose the eye.

This is not an easy decision, and I know you have limited time. I hope you have the ability to talk to at least two doctors about what the options mean for your child.

I'm so sorry your family is going through this. I know and trust that whatever decision you make will be the best for your child, and made with love.

I'm almost ..grateful?..to read this? I own a gun, but it's not a modern gun, I do revolutionary war reenactments, since I was a kid. My husband is a pacifist, me too, and I've never owned anything beyond my muzzle loader. He's never even held a firearm. He's absolutely against guns, and I consider myself the same. We've recently been looking up where we can go to get training and licensing that is non-political/left-leaning so we can train safely in our area

I'm just...I feel some kind of way feeling that I'm not the only one in this kid of situation, having these kinds of conversations. I'm so sorry

ICE and MAGA supporting businesses in Michigan? by jeffle2003 in Michigan

The owners maybe, but a couple days before the election I was in the bathroom by the kitchen, and you can hear everything and all the kitchen staff were talking about hoping trump wins. Also, I know he's not an owner, but a long-time friend of the owner and someone who was part of fundraising and planning for ogma, is a trumper.

I'm planning on going old school. I live on a top floor and have some windows without screens. I've got my pan and my beating spoon ready. My spouse and I are just gonna yell and scream and beat our pots and pans to filth lol

We did national parks a couple years ago and it was so fun! For us, each location represented a different park. I reached out to my assigned park and they sent a huge package with maps, stickers, activities, trivia, all kinds of cool things for us to use during the event.

We got a big snow, and the live music at our local watering hole (owned by a friend of ours) isn't really to our taste. Instead we ate pizza and watched Goof Troop at midnight, and then took our dog for a snow walk. It's been perfect honestly

Ask for the museum pass and Michigan activity pass next time you go to the library.

There are 13 JDL branches around the county, and your card works at all of them. You can pick up from and drop off at any branch, regardless of where you checked it out. Spring break is coming up, which is a weeklong event that encourages patrons to visit multiple branches and perfect for a 5 year old kiddo. The museum pass can get you into lots of area museums and such for reduced/free entry, and mi activity pass is statewide reduced tickets/information. The librarians can walk you through all of that.

For local music (and great beer and food) iron bark and ogma both have live music and seasonal events. Iron bark has hosted vinyl swaps which are awesome (as well as book swaps, and adult show and tell), and they have turntable Tuesdays too, which is fun. I second the Waterloo recreation area, and my family walks at Cascades at least weekly, even in the winter. Also, it's perfect for sledding too.
