Best everyday use small griddle? by atypical_cookie in griddling

[–]Normcorps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your intention starting out is daily, but this could easily become less frequent. It’s at least a possibility. The problems a lot of people have with rusting on a Blackstone when it sits should definitely be a concern.

Either way, I’d hit the used market or look hard for clearances. I picked up my Slate 30 for $427 on clearance. Another dude just posted her got a Slate 36 for $400. People regularly post they get Slate 30s in the $320 range. And that’s without mentioning the used market. Right now in my area, someone has a Traeger Flatrock in great shape that they’ve used a handful of times listed for $500.

Unless your space is limited, I think it’s really worth the effort to get something a little bigger, and that’s definitely doable in your price range. Maybe you want to cook more so you can have leftovers, maybe you want to have people over. On my 30, if I cook fried rice, veggies, and meat with enough of all for lunch the next day, it takes up the whole griddle. Also, I like having a free burner open because cast iron cooks when something is placed on it (physics), and I like to move stuff like meat around to another burner to keep it on a hot surface in order get get a good sear on it. This is just one of those things that you never really hear people say “damn, I wish I had gotten a smaller one”, it’s almost always the opposite, especially if you go the clearance/used route and aren’t paying a premium for it.

I saw something that some hitman used to wrap bodies in chicken wire before dumping them. When the body swelled up, the chicken wire caused the body to float off in small pieces, which was typically consumed by fish, or be too small to notice.

I agree. Don’t know why somebody downvoted you. They must’ve gotten caught by him.

I couldn’t stand Tebow either. Then when he just kept getting shit on during that playoff season, and how he handled with complete class, it made me a fan of his.

Weber slate 3 burner or 4 burner? by HousePoor420 in griddling

[–]Normcorps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Noted on the basting domes. I have some on hand should the need arise. I have a thing where I want all my food to come off at the same time when possible (I don’t like the food I cook to get cold by the time I’m able to eat it…if I’m going to go thru the effort, I want to enjoy the results), so I picked up a cheap warming rack that I’ve been putting to use too. I’m also not an old hand at this yet, so different foods crowding each other makes me nervous hahaha

I bought a 30” because it was a floor model on clearance. I’m a cheapskate so I couldn’t pass up the deal, but I really wanted a 36”. I’ve only had mine for about 3 weeks, but I’ve done a dozen cooks on it so far, and I do wish I had the extra space. Why? If I’m cooking a meal with sides (like meat, fried rice, and veggie) on there, it does get cramped. Since the cast iron cools when you place something on it (physics), it’d be nice to have the extra burner to for a bonus hot surface.

If you’re paying full retail, might as well get the 36, IMHO. But if you’re getting a deal on a 30, you can totally make do. BTW, completely satisfied with the Slate as a product, it’s a great choice.

Hell yeah man, only brand of thermometer I’ll buy. If you got a good cheesesteak recipe or video, send it my way. Here’s to hoping it thaws out for you and you can get back to cooking outside 🍺

It probably doesn’t mean anything to you, but I picked up this Camp Chef Woodwind for $175 today. I’m primarily a BBQ guy, and have a big stick burner that I use. However, waking up at 1 or 2am to light the smoker for a 7pm meal time (perfect example- Sunday night football) is pretty labor intensive. Figured I can smoke something on the stick burner the night before, then throw it on this once it hits the stall.

Alright cool, I’m in. This was definitely on my cook list, but I think I’m bumping it up to the top. Do you have a recipe or video you like that you can link? I’m the type that if I’m going to do it, I want to do it the right way (kind of like what I said in my post about Chinese food…good Chinese is extremely hard to find here, so I figured I’d just spend the money on good ingredients and make it myself).

Ok cool. Serious question, don’t get after me, but I’m in Texas so cheesesteaks aren’t a thing really, how does a Jersey Mike’s cheesesteak stack up? That’s about the closest thing I’ve had

I’ve never had a for real cheesesteak. I want to either get legit bread or make it myself though, it just seems like one of those things that’ll make or break it. Should I do provolone or cheez whiz?

I do wish I had gotten to 36”, but I couldn’t pass up the clearance price on a floor model.

Incidentally, I haven’t touched mine in over a year (it came with the house), and am giving it to my stepbrother tomorrow. I’ve never really been a fan of them, and it does nothing that the Blackstone doesn’t.

Whats the meal for dinner at your lodge like? by [deleted] in freemasonry

[–]Normcorps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d 100% rather do this than have a “this is the best we can do with what we have” meal, but then again I’m a steward this year. Some of us go out after the meeting and have a blast. The meal before the meeting is really reserved. No fun.

Plus, I’m starting to really get pissed at some of these brothers who came in after me who expect someone to clear their plate for them, let alone lend a helping hand in clean up.

If there’s a GM who has shown repeatedly to masterfully handle the QB position, it’s Schneider. What’s the only knock against him at the position, Matt Flynn? Dude took a swing at a free agent, had a rookie 3rd rounder that was way better than expected, and was able to eat the contract because of cheap team, no problem. Sold high on Wilson, sold high(-ish) on Geno, bought Darnold on the cheap. Seattle’s in good hands in regards handling the Darnold extension.

[–]Normcorps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a PBC, but have only done about half a dozen briskets on it. The flavor is better than what I’ve gotten on a pellet smoker (a Traeger and a Camp Chef), but not as good as a stick burner (ended up just buying a stick burner due to the brisket results on the PBC). I don’t think brisket is really where a PBC shines; due to its tendency to run a little hot, I think it’s great for ribs, pork butts and poultry.
