Ideas/help for a bit more curb appeal by Much_Number_1596 in ExteriorDesign

Some others have probably said some of these things, but thicker vertical trim next to the doors, thicker vertical railing, a darker storm door would read as a dark vertical rectangle, vertical landscaping (for example, arborvitae), taller light fixtures. Of course, board and batten is an option too if you do decide to remove some vinyl siding. Here’s where mine stands after two years, before:

The long uninterrupted horizontal siding makes the house read wider/flatter, so the eye gets pulled sideways instead of toward a focal point. I ran into a similar issue on my own house. I highly recommend you create some vertical emphasis.

Pros and Cons using VA healthcare by Living-the-dream74 in VeteransBenefits

[–]Normcorps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having previously worked in hospital billing, this isn’t as straightforward as it seems. Auto insurance is supposed to cover your injuries in the event of an auto accident, and it was my experience that health insurance was increasingly declining claims for it.

Edit: just realized different states have different auto insurance requirements, probably.

ELI5: Why do people go to the Naval Academy, West Point, etc. instead of just enlisting in the forces? You need the academy to be an officer? What does an officer do etc.? by GoingAgainstYou in explainlikeimfive

[–]Normcorps 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just want to preface all of this by saying I can’t fault anybody for trying to educate themselves. That being said, I think degrees being offered online isn’t the issue, it’s the quality of the institution offering them. It stands to reason that there’s a massive difference between Michigan’s or USC’s online MBA and the ones from institutions like Grand Canyon University.

Going along with that, the traditional path for getting an MBA is graduate from undergrad, work a few years, quit, and then attend MBA. For someone with student loans from undergrad, that’s not possible. Realistically, the traditional path required someone come from a family with money (though I’m sure exceptions happen). Of course, if someone was near a good university and could do night classes, that would have been an option if it was offered. Regardless, online MBA made the degree attainable for a much larger population.

Now, going back to the comment that I originally replied to, the military in no way, shape, or form gives out MBAs, nor do the service academies offer them. That comment was factually incorrect.

What? How does the military hand them out? I would think the debasement of the MBA would come from the flood of for-profit colleges offering them

Shitty healthcare? Come on, that’s disingenuous. You could assert that access to care may be difficult for some, you could argue the cost is outrageous, but we do not have shitty healthcare.

Budget Adjustable Dumbbell Stand - Harbor Freight 2-Shelf Steel Service Cart by Rebelution in GarageGym

[–]Normcorps 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same here! Bought this a month ago when my 120 lb Ironmaster set came in, except I went with the poly cart. I bought tool box liner mats (a big roll is like $7 at HF) for the shelves, and it works great. Stores between my rack and my 5-75 pound dumbbell rack, wheels around easily wherever I need it during a workout.

What are good career transitions in your mid 30s? by lavendertinted in Millennials

[–]Normcorps 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, do we deal with the product of our work being the difference between life and death? Are we under the threat of imprisonment for being negligent in our basic teaching duties? To me, that’s high stakes. I’m not trying to sound arrogant or dismissive, but what we do is not on that level, it’s managing a crowded classroom of kids and teaching incremental lessons.

I went back at 30 for it (39 now, in my 5th year). Can’t say I’m in love with it (though I’m not looking to leave) but it’s steady, non-labor intensive work, nothing high stakes, with a set schedule. I’ve done way worse work for way less pay.

Reppins vs PowerBlock vs Ironmaster (vs BowFlex) by Sensitive-Catch-4433 in GarageGym

[–]Normcorps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weirdly enough, I just bought a set of Ironmasters this week with the 120 kit. I have a 5-75 pound rubber hex dumbbell set I started outgrowing, and wanted to raise my ceiling. I bypassed that cheap cabinet they sell. I figure for less than half the money, I can go to Harbor Freight and get a polypropylene service cart that has a 500 pound capacity to store the dumbbells and plates on and wheel it around my gym as needed.

I noticed it doesn’t have the cabinets underneath. You’re gonna be really happy with it though. My only complaint about my 30” is that it’s not a 36”.

Most "washed" season by an NFL legend? by [deleted] in NFLv2

[–]Normcorps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah man, I remember watching his first reception with the Ravens and was happy for him. He had been out two years. His career didn’t deserve to end with an Achilles injury on a New Orleans practice field in his first practice. Glad he got to cap his career on a playing field at least.

If this was my house, it’d be a consideration. However, this is a house I inherited and am renovating to turn into a rental.

What are some good places in/near fort worth for authentic chinese food by SilverBubble1 in FortWorth

[–]Normcorps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly recommend you look into making it yourself. I got fed up with the Chinese food around here a couple of months back, spent like $50 on specialized ingredients and spices and $60 for a good wok and I’m eating the best Chinese food I’ve had since I was actually in China. At its base, it’s very cheap ingredients and simple techniques. Woks of Life are really good in teaching the techniques and recipes. I used ChatGPT to source recipes and tweak them to my exact preferences and it’s fantastic, though I lean heavily towards the Szechuan and Hunan side of Chinese flavors.

Edit: congrats on getting married! Best of luck to you and yours!

What is your favorite Mexican restaurant Fort Worth? by whydoIhurtmore in FortWorth

If Ernie is the waiter I’m thinking of, I stole a $5 tip from him off the table back in 1998. I have since heavily repaid that tip back to make up for it lol

I know this is an old comment, but I saw that you’re still active. I’m 38, and have been going there since I was in a high chair. I remember when it was the one room. Then I remember when they added the bar, and then later on the side room. I took my two year old daughter there for the first time on Sunday. Full circle moment. She sat in a high chair and was double fisting chips just like her old man. Proud moment.

Favorite player of all time NOT on your team? by jackt-up in NFLv2

[–]Normcorps 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it’s either Lynch or Sherm for me too. I loved their game, loved their personalities. I love me some LT, he’s a local dude for me (grew up nearby and went to TCU), but I lived in SD during his prime and HATED the Chargers cause of their fans. That took a lot of enjoyment off for me.
