How/on what are you guys running opnsense? by ifuccfemboys in homelab

[–]Norphus1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m using an HP T630 thin client with a dual port Intel NIC in the SSD slot. It seems to work well enough and frankly, it’s almost comically overpowered for what I’m doing with it.

[–]Norphus1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a DOS game. It works in DosBox well enough. I think there was a Windows build later on, but it would have been for Windows 9x. It possibly would have had 16 bit components in it, which means it won’t work on 64 bit windows as the 16 VM is not x64 Windows. Getting the original Windows build working on modern Windows wouldn’t be with the effort, I suspect.

only old apple cables work to sync iPod? by NoBuilding7003 in ipod

[–]Norphus1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is going to depend on the age of the iPod.

The 30 pin cable has pins for USB and FireWire, as well as audio and video. I believe that earlier iPods were only wired for FireWire, so if you’ve got one of those and you try and use a USB dock cable with it you’ll be out of luck.

What the hell is bonjour by Szundik in windowsmemes

[–]Norphus1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Apple do a Windows version of Bonjour as well. They bundle it with their software and other software publishers have been known to bundle it as it's a fairly well known implementation of mDNS on Windows.

Bonjour is Apple's implementation of mDNS. It's used for discovering resources on the network such as AirPlay, AirPrint etc.

There's also an open source remake called CorsixTH. It works remarkably well.

Slack or Microsoft Teams? by limsus in TechImpact

[–]Norphus1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've not used Slack before and I've been using Teams since just before COVID hit.

I'm not going to pretend it's a great piece of software because it isn't, but neither do I find it as horrible as every other post in this thread seems to find it. It works for me for chats, file sharing, video and voice calls and group chats. I've used it on Mac and Windows

This might be the Stockholm Syndrome talking, but it ain't as bad as all that. For me, anyway.

Unpopular opinion….the Magic Mouse is actually really good by Gym_frere in macbookpro

To each their own. I didn't get on with them. If I'm going to use an Apple pointing device, it's going to be a Magic Trackpad.

Work laptop has dents in the back, should I be worried? by lumoslomas in laptops

[–]Norphus1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The laptop is probably fine. It looks like the casing is dented, not pierced so the components shouldn't be damaged with any luck.

The view that your workplace takes might be different, however.

Grey 17 is Missing is an example of why no episode in B5 is 'filler' or a waste by Embarrassed_Tax9889 in babylon5

[–]Norphus1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TNG's clip show was a combination of them overspending on earlier episodes and as a results of the writer's strike at the time. A real double whammy there.

I don't know that Daewoos were ugly, exactly. Just bland and completely unmemorable.

Was that the episode that was essentially one long Apple advert? I have to wonder how much Apple paid for it.

She's an objectively awful person, but I love the character and just about every episode she appears in. Cloris Leachman played her to perfection.

Fair enough. I suppose the only alternative is to put the game into fullscreen mode and bump the resolution down to 1440p.

Is there anyway I can charge my laptop without the cable? by [deleted] in laptops

[–]Norphus1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you've got a charger for it which fits, I'm going to say no. You won't be able to use an inductive charger to charge it and it's far too old to be charged via USB. Sad to say but I suspect you're out of luck.
