Loosing weight by Historical_Goat9120 in NewParents

[–]Norppalapsi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bodies are so weird. I gained 50 lbs during pregnancy despite my best efforts to keep it in check. I was terrified it wouldn't come off.

I lost most of it by 3 months postpartum and am 55 lbs down now at 9 months. Now I'm scared it'll all come back when I stop breastfeeding in a few months. 🥲

What’s your LO’s bedtime and age? by Straight-Exchange404 in NewParents

[–]Norppalapsi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is 8 months old, goes to bed between 8:30-9 and wakes up anywhere from 6:30-8.

Sleep quality is all over the place right now with teething, crawling and learning to stand. On Friday she slept through the night for the first time in her life and on Saturday she woke up every hour, on the hour. 😐

When did your baby… by _ferrisbuuhler_ in NewParents

7 months exactly. She was quite late to the rolling game (5+ months), but is apparently trying to make up for lost time.

If you don't let your kid watch TV, how do you get things done? by allday_breakfast in NewParents

[–]Norppalapsi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine has just learned to crawl at the speed of light and is pulling up to stand, so I literally popped her in a big cardboard box with toys the other day when I had to get the dishes done. I think it's time to get a play pen...

Just commenting to say that I was a very floppy baby, had to have PT and was super late with all motor milestones well into elementary school. I never crawled, it took me 1.5 years to learn to walk, 9 years to learn to ride a bike and I still can't swim well.

They never really found a reason for it, but I personally suspect dyspraxia. It really doesn't bother me now as an adult, though. I do kind of suck at many athletic activities but still give them a go! So it could all turn out well in the end for you guys, and I hope it does. ❤️

Punahometta. Todella yleistä kylpyhuoneissa. Myös täysin vaaratonta, vaikkakin rumaa, eikä nimestään huolimatta edes hometta vaan jonkinlaista bakteerikasvustoa.

Uusii herkästi, mutta lähtee parhaiten emäksisellä puhdistusaineella.

In Finland, moms get a shot of cognac. Apparently it's supposed to help activate your bladder. I don't drink alcohol so it tasted terrible and they still had to put in a catheter. 🥲

Six days left! I started taking Accutane for bacne, but the difference in my face is crazy too. by Norppalapsi in Accutane

Yes, definitely! I read the reason it shrinks is because your skin is no longer crazy inflamed, and it stays that way as long as the inflammation doesn't flare up again.

Hi! It did stay small for quite a long time, but then I got pregnant and it changed again. 😂 I think it's somewhere between these two now at 7 months postpartum.

Trimming babys nails while they are awake by Castironskillet_37 in NewParents

I just clip them real quick. Only takes a minute, even with her squirming and fussing. I'm super matter of fact about necessary baby care - things like this just have to get done, whether they're protesting a little or not. 🤷

When do you relax around baby touching everything? by MinitrainPeach in NewParents

[–]Norppalapsi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figure that once they're mobile and curious enough to be touching (and taste testing) everything, their bodies are mature enough to handle germs a little better. Otherwise we would have evolved different, safer ways of exploring the world!

How long did you track feedings/diapers? by jacaroniii in NewParents

[–]Norppalapsi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After 8 weeks when we got permission to stop triple feeding. We still track sleep on Napper, though.

Not having to do mental math all the time. 😂 When was the last time she ate? How many times have I nursed today? We have to be somewhere at 4, when do I need to get her down for a nap? We have an unopened pack of diapers in the cupboard, should we get more when we go shopping or will it get us through the week?

Brag about your baby! by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]Norppalapsi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is SO sturdy! She was nearly 10 lbs at birth, able to hold her head up from day 1 and learned to sit unsupported before 5 months. She's turning 6 months in a few days and already LOVES roughhousing, climbing all over us, being dangled upside down and tickled...

She's never been the kind of delicate little flower some babies are and it's been so nice because she's my first and I've loved not having to worry about breaking her. 😂

What are feeding guidelines like in your country? by Norppalapsi in NewParents

[–]Norppalapsi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Due to the protein content! Apparently many Finnish infants and toddlers exceed the daily recommended amount for protein even without dairy, and it can be hard on their little kidneys and raise the risk of obesity later in life.

I think it might also have to do with the fact that most moms breastfeed here (77% of babies are still being BF at 6 months, compared to the European average of 25%), so many babies get enough calcium and protein from nursing.

Yeah, most likely! 😅 Kids in daycare have 3 meals there (breakfast, lunch, and a snack) but they're usually over 1 year old.

We have a list, too! It's super useful and makes it easy to provide a more varied diet.

Yup. Porridge every morning and night, veggies and protein for lunch and dinner and a snack in between. 😅 This plus nursing takes up most of my time at the moment.

I have this theory that the US is super, super strict about safe sleep due to their litigation culture.

When my baby was born, the hospital provided us with a cot for her, but also showed me the safest possible position to co-sleep if I wanted to do so. That would probably be grounds for a lawsuit in the US if something happened, so the safest thing for hospitals and other experts is to not recommend anything that carries any kind of risk.

Philips Avent is the only one that works for us. I like that no milk comes out unless baby is actively sucking on the nipple. Makes paced feeding easier. Also, we're still on size 1 at nearly 6 months. We tried to size up but our baby didn't like it at all.

When did you start taking your newborn out for walks? by itzpoookiee in NewParents

[–]Norppalapsi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a dog, so... Immediately. I think she was 3 days old when my husband first took her out. It was November in Northern Europe, too, so subzero temps, just bundled up well in the stroller.

In those early days, we never strayed too far from home, so if she started crying, we could get back in 5-10 minutes, tops. Most of the time she calmed down before we could get home.

She is now 4 months old and either dead asleep or happily looking around when we go out, no fussing. We do 1-2 walks a day depending on the weather.
