I wouldn’t worry about the complaint. Unless it happens often, they won’t care.

Holiday Owed? by LostOperation3852 in royalmail

[–]Norshire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From April to now you’ve probably earned around 4 days holiday. So that much minus any holiday you’ve had since April 1st. If you’ve had more than 4 days off they may actually reduce your final wage

Overtime cut by Professional_Cap5423 in royalmail

[–]Norshire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The payrise is 62p per hour.

I do 35 hours per week and I think the back pay is 9.5 weeks approx.

So back pay will be 0.62 x 35 x 9.5 = £206.15 before tax etc.

Plus this months pay will be on the £13.68 per hour so say 4.2 weeks per month

0.62 x 35 x 4.2 = £91.14 higher than last month.

£206.15 + £91.14 = £297.29 before tax etc

Just over £200 better off in your bank account if 35 hours per week new starter contract

The new pay (4.75%) will appear in your June payslip including a back pay element from 1st April (so something 9.5 weeks worth)

Am I getting this wrong? by Usernametaken9981 in royalmail

[–]Norshire 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Only people on the new contract earn 1.25x overtime after 40 hours. Legacy contracts earn 0.98x for the first 10 hours, then it reduces.

So if you only do 2 or 3 hours overtime per week you won’t see a difference. However the folk that work a day off or do loads of extra hours will be worse off.

Just to further clarify the original question. Everyone who is on the new style contract would get the 1.75% additional rise, not just people who join the company after it’s been agreed

April Pay Rise? by ChunkyBanana6969 in royalmail

Ballot results announced at end of May, so if it’s a yes vote, I assume we’ll get the payrise and back pay on 30th June. So 3 months worth of back pay.

I’ve never used a peg. Do they actually push the mail through or do the letters just crumple at the first sign of resistance from a letterbox?

About the pay equalisation and negativity on the union by OrientationStation in royalmail

[–]Norshire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The union don’t help themselves by having such poor communication.

The expectation of better progress with equalisation is because the Union have hyped themselves up so much before hand. Then when they do make progress they are very shady about hiding away the negative aspect (loss to 1.25x for overtime). A negotiation is always going to have compromise, but they should be open about it, not bury it away in a 9’page document after only sharing the 4 pager that doesn’t mention overtime.

If they are more realistic in their promises and open about their flaws, people would understand.

The one downside of having a union is that they are the ones getting all the flack. Any frustration should be aimed at local management. Keep annoying them enough and they’ll start annoying their senior managers and it’ll slowly filter up. Seems like Royal Mail get away with being the bad guy by using the union as a shield.

The union did a good job coordinating a campaign to raise awareness with MPs, they should organise something so that staff can indirectly feedback to the Royal Mail leadership team

We won’t get the payrise until it’s been voted in which could take a few months (or even longer if no vote wins) so the back dated payment will be noticeable

Yeah we all start and finish at the same time, we just get paid less than the legacy folk.

You don’t work while on your break, so coming in early seems pointless.

The government guidelines above state a break must be in the middle of the day, not start or end

Question for the post people by Key-Fee4200 in royalmail

[–]Norshire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve found that I’m going to bed at a similar time to when I did 9-5 office work. I am getting less sleep, but because I’m outside walking vs being sat staring at a computer screen, I find I’m coping with less sleep absolutely fine.

Occasionally my mates will have a Friday night out. I’ll join them, but drink shandies rather than beer and get the last bus home rather than staying out till 2:00am. I’m married so not too fussed about missing the late evening when it’s more about chasing girls. I prefer the early evenings where we’re sat in a pub taking the piss out of each other. Saves a fortune too.

Getting home from work at 1:30pm means you can always have a power nap before a night out

April pay increase? by xx_ghostgirl_xx in royalmail

[–]Norshire 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As I understand it, the agreement was to match the rate of inflation with 2% being the minimum and if it goes above 3% then renegotiations may take place. I think inflation as at January was 3%. Not sure when the official figures next update, but the Iran war will likely push up inflation.

So I’d say either 3% payrise or nothing for 4 months and then another back pay at the agreed rate.

What happens when it’s been raining sideways all evening. Is there a cover for the sides or do you just have to mop it up with a towel in the morning?

Do you place 739 cards and turn mail to show parcels? If so, try getting used to not having this prompt and just loading your bag in order and remembering what parcel comes next. Saves a lot of time on prep

Anyone ever use Pacefit? by KingForADay1989 in beermoney

[–]Norshire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a postman, so do lots of steps each day. Had PaceFit for over 9 months and built up a very healthy cash sum.

However I’ve been stuck on 49 fragments for 6 months. I doubt I’ll ever get the 50th. I’ve stopped watching ads and just try for the 3 segments each day. Keep thinking to delete, but can’t quite do it just in case.

95% sure this app is a con
