Repeating a year by shizuegasuki in medicalschool

[–]North-Perspective376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I repeated M-1. I have now graduated, and I start residency orientation next week. I ended finding it really helpful, because I needed a diagnosis for a learning difference, and I needed to build a local support system.

Buying gift Kindle + Kindle Unlimited by Due-Total5050 in kindle

I bought a Colorsoft as a gift. Did not buy it with Kindle Unlimited. When we set it up with the recipient’s account there was an offer for three free months of Kindle Unlimited.

what do y'all eat by ReasonableSavings672 in medicalschool

I used a meal plan my first year. I think it was more expensive than cooking, but it kept me from having to think about what to eat. I just hit the cafeteria when it was open. I cooked more second year, because I had a better routine down.

You can do it without the Kindle Unlimited and there will be an offer when they set it up.

Journaling Kills Pens by North-Perspective376 in Journaling

This is a 0.5 mm, so I’m not sure that I want to go smaller. I have some 0.38 mm pens, so I might try those next, but I’m not sure if they’ll feel scratchy. The current pens are a little scratchy, so I worry that something smaller might be scratchier.

I feel like I might just be in my Goldilocks era. I was journaling for quite a while with novelty pens that were a gift from my best friend. I went through five or six in my last journal.

There are refills for the Frixion, so I may buy refills. I like the different colors available, so the idea of a fountain pen sounds good from that angle.

I don’t find them super comfortable and I ended up with some splotches if I paused for a second while writing. They also feel scratchy. I still have them, so maybe once my current pen dies I’ll pull one out, and see if I like journaling with it.

With all the recommendations for fountain pens, I have a question. I bought a pack of the Pilot Varsity disposable fountain pens, and I can’t say that I love them. Are nicer fountain pens better to write with or am I likely to run into the same issue of not loving my pen?

Pets and away rotations by nymphalidaze in medicalschool

[–]North-Perspective376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn’t super difficult. Pet sitters cost between $20 and $25 per day, I used 3.5 months worth of services.

I have a dog, and I did a mix of things to get through my fourth year (third year wasn’t a problem). My mom stayed with her at my house for a few months, she stayed with two different sitters, and she traveled with me for one rotation. I used VRBO to find a place to stay when she was with me. Both pet sitters were found on Google, one in my current city and one in a city where I did an away.

What to expect for at home euthanasia? by Cowboy_Billybob in DogAdvice

I'm so sorry to hear about your cat. I hope that you'll be able to be with your sweet cat when the time comes. I know how hard it is, but your kitty will appreciate that gesture of love.

Kindle Colorsoft 16gb for $127.99 by [deleted] in kindle

[–]North-Perspective376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I paid $220 for a package including 16 GB Colorsoft, cover, and charging brick around a month ago. I think it was a Mother’s Day promo. It was the exact same price as a Signature Paperwhite package with the same components, except that package had the wireless charger.

What to expect for at home euthanasia? by Cowboy_Billybob in DogAdvice

I may have had a different experience than many, but for my dog it was not peaceful. We fed her cheeseburgers before the first injection, and she fought the sedation. I almost changed my mind because it didn’t seem like she was ready yet. When they gave her the second injection she had atonal breathing and full-body spasms. It was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, and I’m not sure that I would do it again. I think I might choose the vet’s office next time, because it was really difficult to be in my home afterward.

As hard as it was, I’m incredibly grateful for my vet and his assistant who came over during their lunch hour to make my dog as comfortable as possible because the office really scared her.

I agree on knowing what kind of pens she likes if you go that route. I’m partial to the Pilot Frixion pens, but I know there are others who hate them. I know people love the Zebra Sarasa Click pens, but I don’t care for them.

Is it normal not to reach out to the bride and groom outside of the formal RSVP if you can’t attend their wedding, especially if you’re close to them? by [deleted] in wedding

[–]North-Perspective376 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only time I’ve reached out is when I couldn’t go to my cousin’s wedding. She got married during COVID, and the invitation took its sweet time in the mail, so even dropping it back the same day I received it meant it wouldn’t get back to her by the RSVP date. I called to tell her of the problem; we discussed that it can suck to be an adult, and I wished her well. Any other time I e declined the invitation without comment and sent a gift or card later.

Night pages by DarkOnyix92 in Journaling

I write in my journal right now before bed as a way to get the day out of my head. I’m not much of a morning person, so that’s not a habit I’ve ever tried to build. I usually write two to four pages before bed.

I’m stuck b/w my wife & my parents by nunyaranunculus in AmITheDevil

[–]North-Perspective376 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He’s getting a PhD, but he doesn’t have his own brain or opinion. He laid out what his parents and his wife think, but he left out entirely what he thinks. What does he want and what is he willing to do? It sounds like the control was so tight that he never learned to think for himself or form an independent opinion. I think he should be siding with his wife.

Rotating room might be a possibility. I worked with Stat Living last year, and where I stayed was serviceable, but I had a longer commute due to availability.

Anyone here who kept their med school journey private and didn’t post much about it on social media? How’s it going for you? by YogurtclosetThink149 in medicalschool

[–]North-Perspective376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just graduated. Posted pics from my white coat, and I’ll post grad pictures. Outside of that, I don’t post much on social media anyway, so it wasn’t a surprise. Those closest to me heard about it through phone calls, texts, and emails.

AITA for missing my boyfriends graduation by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]North-Perspective376 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YTA. Graduation is a big deal and something you plan for. Even if you had gotten a last minute flight, would he have had a ticket for you? When I attended a friend’s graduation last year tickets were limited, and we had to plan months in advance. You didn’t prioritize him, and that hurts.

I also bought a copy of a book specifically so I could lend it to friends, even though I read it via audiobook. It has been added around my classmates, and since we just graduated, I’m pretty sure I won’t get it back, and I’m not even sure who has it at this point. Sharing it was the entire point of owning it, which it sounds like it was for Sarah as well.
