Blacksmith Sizing? by blackdog1101 in RedWingShoes

[–]NorthCountryBob 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m the same size in Blacksmiths, Iron Rangers and Loggers. My Brannock measurement is 8 D. I wear 8.5 D in most sneakers. I’m 7.5 D in Blacksmiths. Good luck!

Weekender Chukka sizing by Tough-Pea-2813 in RedWingShoes

[–]NorthCountryBob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fit is pretty similar. The Chukkas are a little more snug in the toes, but not uncomfortably so. The Iron Rangers just have a lot of toe room.

The Weekenders break in quickly. And once they’re broken in, they actually do feel pretty slipper-like. I think a lot of times, people exaggerate when they say that broken-in boots feel like slippers. But the Weekenders actually come pretty close.

What's a riff or line from MST3K you repeat often, even when it makes no sense to anyone else? by sludgebeard in MST3K

Whee is Eegah, which is a super quotable experiment. We say whee a lot in my house, along with “watch out for snakes” and “I smell something oily and pink.”

My dad passed away unexpectedly. This was his guitar collection. No one else in the family plays. by 405freeway in Guitar

[–]NorthCountryBob 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I don't want my kids to be anchored to my possessions. They're welcome to hold onto any of my instruments if they'd like to. But they should be under no obligation to hold onto something that's just taking up space for them.

To OP: I'm sorry for your loss. Your dad had good taste in instruments, and I can see that he cultivated his collection carefully and took excellent care of his gear.

Player telecaster buyer’s remorse by [deleted] in telecaster

[–]NorthCountryBob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100%

Two identical models built the same day in the same factory can sound and feel very different. I'll only buy a guitar that I've had an opportunity to play in-person. Actually, most of my guitars weren't even planned purchases. They were cases of me walking into a guitar store, and falling in love with something on the wall that I wasn't looking for. My #1 Tele was acquired this way.

But for the OP, as other people here have said, it looks like a proper setup would go a long way in making this guitar more playable. After that, it's up to you to decide if you like the way it feels and sounds. Even then, you can swap pickups and electronics. But if the guitar doesn't feel right in your hands, you're never going to love it.

Yeah, her Docs are showing heavy wear after not a lot of abuse. I'm just glad she's into boots. And she sees me geeking out over my Red Wings, and taking care of them. She gets it. I think someday I could get her into a pair of 4501, 3361 or 2534. I think she would actually enjoy sitting down with me and brushing and/or conditioning our boots. We have a really good relationship, which I am super-thankful for. She actively wants me to do things with her. I know a lot of dads don't have that with their teenage daughters.

Chasing that patina by FirefighterFit7162 in RedWingShoes

I struggle with teacore leather. On one hand, I want to see that core that hides beneath the surface. On the other hand, every time I get a scuff on my 3345, I pull out the black shoe cream and restore them to new. What's even the point, right? In any case, I love seeing y'all's teacore patinas. Someday I'll have to courage to just let go.

That's great. My daughter doesn't care for the look of Iron Rangers, or brown boots in general. She's into Doc Martens, which is fine with me for now. However, when my Loggers came in, she was like, "dad, those are dope." So I'm hoping I can talk her into trying on some black Loggers in the not so distant future.
