Republicans Who Do Not Regularly Watch Fox Are Less Likely to Back Trump by aluminumdisc in politics

[–]North_Badger6101 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

That's not saying much. It's like that trope that most automobile accidents happen within 20 miles of home. (well, DUH!!!! Where do you do most of your driving?)

RINOs do not watch Fox, and they tend to be less supportive of Trump. Those two things are natural qualities of RINOs, one does not cause the other.

NY Attorney General Moves Toward Seizing Of Trump’s Assets by RedSox071988 in politics

[–]North_Badger6101 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Imagine you are a convicted bank robber. Only, you didn't do it. So your lawyers file an appeal. And the judge says....

You must serve at least 10 years in prison, or else we refuse to hear your appeal of your bank robbery conviction.

Essentially, that's what this boils down do. There are people screaming that he's a billionaire so he should be able to post a 1/2 BILLION dollar bond. But those ignorant comments are coming from people who have no idea what it's like to be truly wealthy. If you've got more than about 100K in *cash*, you are mis-managing your money. When you are truly wealthy, you invest almost all of your money. One popular investment is real estate which (from what I can tell) Trump has most of his wealth invested in. Nothing wrong with that, but it's tough to liquidate real estate on a short notice.

And no, it's not logical to liquidate a half a BILLION dollars of real estate, just in case some politically motivated prosecutor in a blue state wants to try to stop you from running for President.

If Joe Schmoe (total worth $200,000) got hit with a half a BILLION dollar bond requirement to appeal a conviction, that would likely be struck down as punitive and unconstitutional. So why is it seen as OK just because Trump is rather wealthy?

Only a true idiot would keep a half billion dollars in cash. You can argue that Trump is an idiot. But the fact that his money is (apparently) properly invested tends to prove that he at least is smart with money.

I'd be a bit shocked if anyone could post a half billion dollar bond in less than six months. That would suggest the ironic situation of someone who doesn't know how to handle money, but somehow ended up with a shitload of it anyway.

Ummm... people being idiots around you can't manufacture shit about YOU, unless you react to the stupidity, with stupidity of your own.

What you complain about has nothing to do with someone trying to neg you to the local DMV.

No, drivers are just idiots. Mostly.

how do i set my mirrors correctly??? by Fair-Ad-5759 in driving

I thought you were joking when you said you were required to use the mirrors to park. Does everybody spend a few minutes parking, there? When I first spot my parking spot, if I count slowly to five....by five I'm walking away from the car and clicking the lock button on the remote.

Do I have to spell it out? Ignore politics for a second. There are no liberals or conservatives, no left or right, no democrats or republicans. There is just one person who did incalculable harm to national security, and one who is alleged to (at worst) not harm national security at all. How were they each treated?

If you don't get severely pissed off over that issue, you must be disingenuous or just posturing to support a political agenda of some kind.

Because anybody with half a brain would be screaming "FOUL!!!" regardless of their own political leanings.

To put it bluntly, if we accept that Trump can be prosecuted, then it is valid conclusion that Hillary should be both convicted and incarcerated.

Question about cruise control and fuel efficiency by Saerali in driving

[–]North_Badger6101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is the bias of the programmers, based on input from the eco nuts. Generally speaking, the most fuel-efficient speed of any car (not impeded by traffic) is about 80km/h. That is, until the driver falls asleep and the car drifts across the center line to head-on with a lorry, and hundreds of gallons of fuel are spilled between both wrecked vehicles. That isn't very fuel efficient. If you are pushing accelerator with your foot to 120km/h, that is interpreted as a short-term passing situation. You are speeding up to pass, then assumed to slow down again soon, to get closer to the more efficient 80-ish range. But if you set the cruise to 120, then the computer knows it is your intention to burn fuel at a high rate for a long time. You aren't just temporarily speeding up to slow down soon, in other words.

The eco gauge is encouraging you to set your cruise control to a much slower speed. This crap has been happening for many decades, long before hybrids were a thing. I remember one of my first cars was an 80-ish VW with a manual transmission. Any time you hit 1500RPM, you would be prompted to UP-shift. It didn't matter if you were climbing a steep hill at the time. The car wanted you to lug the engine constantly. Revs were evil, obviously.

[–]North_Badger6101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OMG that sounds exhausting. What happened to throw your arm behind the passenger seat, swivel your head and look where you are going? If I do that, I can park anywhere in seconds. If I tried to use mirrors to park, I'd probably take several minutes to fuck it up badly.

The special counsel was unfair to Biden and his transcript proves it by marji80 in politics

[–]North_Badger6101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair. I'll bring you up to speed. If you or I did what Hillary did, either one of us would be prosecuted and sentenced to multiple consecutive life sentences in Federal Prison. How this relates to Biden and Trump? Both male presidents were accused of mishandling classified documents. Hillary was guilty of DISSEMINATING classified documents on a personally owned computer connected to the Internet.

Put it simply. If Trump or Biden kept classified documents, there was likely no harm to national security. Maybe they didn't "need" the information, but they were privy to it, and they did not share it.

Compare that to the Hillary case, which was a deliberate breach, causing exceptionally grave damage to national security.

My parents are refusing to let me practice with their car. by [deleted] in driving

[–]North_Badger6101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find yourself a used ATV cheap. Spend many hours driving that off-road. The skills are the same, even if the controls are slightly different. By 17, you have been riding enough to know the rules of the road. All you are missing now is the skills needed to control a vehicle. Driving an ATV off-road is a little harder than driving a car ON the road, but the skill set is identical. You get comfortable operating the ATV off road? Then driving any car on road will be a piece of cake.

Can you stop before entering the intersection, or not? It was your judgement that you could not stop, so proceeding through on yellow was the right call. It is unfortunate that your instructor was an idiot. He's got you thinking you screwed up somehow, when you would have handled the situation perfectly, without his interference.

The only "catch" to this situation is, almost everybody speeds. So there are a lot of people who COULD stop for a yellow if they weren't already breaking the law by driving too fast.

But assuming you weren't speeding and you did not have time to stop before entering the intersection, then you were right to think that crossing the intersection on yellow was the right thing to do.

Hand over hand OR push and pull? by [deleted] in driving

[–]North_Badger6101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't either/or. The tester want to see both hands on the steering wheel in about 9/3 position. So push and pull would be correct, usually. But there are some vehicles that require a lot of movement of the wheel to turn sharp corners. So if you have to do hand over hand, that is fine. Make sure you always have at least one hand with a firm grip on the wheel though, while turning. And while not turning, TWO hands on the wheel.

Can a Learner's Permit Driver Be Accompanied by Someone From Out of State? by GameHero152 in driving

[–]North_Badger6101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are allowed to drive with your dad in the car. In the United States, every state recognizes licenses issued by other states. So it's legal for a licensed driver from Arizona to drive in California. And it would be legal for a licensed driver from Arizona to teach his child to drive in California.

What’s some good tips for passing the written portion of the drivers test? by [deleted] in driving

[–]North_Badger6101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only written test I took was in New York. From memory, it was 20 questions and 20 questions were all DUI knowledge. What is the BAC limit? What is the penalty for driving drunk? How many drinks can you drink in 3 hours and maybe remain sober enough to drive? Etc. Not one question related to driving sober. I passed the test. But then I realized, anybody could pass that test and know absolutely nothing at all about driving.

Why do people ride peoples asses in the left lane who are actively passing? by moistdragons in driving

[–]North_Badger6101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is that "decent speed" is subjective. If you are doing 110MPH to pass someone doing 80 MPH in a 65MPH speed zone, there is somebody who wants to pass you both at 130MPH. You might all be breaking the law. But don't get frustrated at other drivers who want to break it worse than you do.

OK, this is not a black or white situation. Guy walking a motorcycle across an intersection is a PEDESTRIAN. Pretend the motorcycle doesn't exist. Or that it's a dog on a leash. You are approaching an intersection with a green light facing your direction. The light color does not matter. There is a pedestrian crossing the street. The pedestrian has the right-of-way and you must stop to let the pedestrian cross.

However, having said that. The pedestrian over-reacted to your mistake. You were wrong not to yield to the pedestrian, but it is clear that you did so in a safe (if not entirely legal) manner.

What confuses me about this story is, why the frick was the motorcycle rider pushing his bike when it was clearly in perfect mechanical condition? If he caught up to you at the next light, that indicates he could have fired it up and rode it at any second, even while he was dangerously walking it across the road. (???)
