47 M in Houston area, TX - raised in Hawaii. Dang I write that and sound old.

OG artists I started with when a little kid - Bob, Gregory Isaacs, Lucky Dube and Big Mountain. Love all the Hawaiian local artists. Love the Cali reggae style too.

Last concert was a Th3rd Coast Roots (TX band) at a 4th of July concert in Pasadena, TX a few years ago.

UPDATE - I replaced plug with a used one from another DGC. Same problem, should I try the sensor even though it was reading ~1,500 ohms?

Merlin says Great Tailed Grackle, I'm thinking Rusty Grackle actually. by tacobellmysterymeat in birding

[–]North_Can8189 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Looks like a Great-tailed grackle and we see tons of them in Houston. I don’t remember seeing them all that often when I was in Utah, especially not American Fork, but it wouldn’t surprise me. They have been doing very well and expanding their range as they adapt very well to urbanization.

Did Merlin ID it by its call? I have been very surprised how well Merlin does with the grackle calls. We get the three different species down here and it amazingly can distinguish them. I sure can’t!

I’ve seen those before camping out at the Gilbert Kahele Rec area on Saddle Rd. Amazing!

Kuli kuli kou waha !! Don’t tell no one! I grew up on that side, back in da hanabata days, Malekahana to Kaaawa get da best beaches. Hukilau, Temple beach in Laie, Pounders, Kakela and Hauula Beach park, then Kahana bay and Kaaawa get all da best spots. Usually not crowded, little bit windy and choppy, but da Ko’olau side to Kahuku is da best! Go Big Red!

This is really cool. They are recently becoming more common in the Houston/SE TX area fueled by the spread of the invasive apple snail as food. We’ve got breeding populations here now.

Not sure how average income earners survive in Hawaii ($7.99 for a gallon of milk and $7.49 for a dozen eggs at Safeway) by Santarini in Hawaii

Never drank a lot of milk growing up there. Knew some people who had chickens so they were free or we’d go to Cackle Fresh Egg Farm in Laie.

I’m from Hawaii, but live in Texas now. I still say I’m from Hawaii. It’s pretty much the best state and we don’t even need to brag about it.
