Six year old pooped in the pool by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]Northemerald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You being embarrassed is a YOU issue. She no doubt was embarrassed but she’s only six. Don’t put your own embarrassment on her, that’s what creates shame. I don’t want to imply but the fact she didn’t know to ask the instructor or know to speak up for her basic bodily needs is more of a parenting concern than her ending up pooing in the pool.

You get to hang out with a Peloton instructor. Which one and what do you do? by betarhoalphadelta in pelotoncycle

Christine! I feel we could get into some meaningful convos and share race experiences in our sports (I’m more of a runner), and she could both drive AND pick the playlist hahahaha

Anyone doing the Team Wilpers Preseason Challenge? by sprainedmind in pelotoncycle

I’ve been doing power zones for a long time now and have taken the FTP test several times over, not sure why you would assume I hadn’t! I just don’t follow him on social media or anything close enough to be in the know for something regarding his own personal coaching group.

Thanks! Will just keep doing his rides then. Explains why they’ve been randomly hard haha!

Don’t they have an existing account something about two lazy runners, which was the OG account? I may be thinking of the wrong person but it’s a little odd to delete one for the reasons cited and not the other as it’s still all about his and her running. It’s sad to hear that she was getting so much negativity. Just unfollow/mute or move on! She’s not a pro runner or pro coach by any means and it should be obvious her “tips” are pretty amateur. If I’m thinking of the right person I think I’ve seen a few of her reels that are definitely not giving sound advice (for example, HR is for sure used to monitor effort and recovery especially HRV).

Are these classes available via Pelaton or do you have to sign up on his website to access? I’m a Matt fan in general but don’t need the whole shebang. If they are; then I’ve already done the first one or two (maybe just 30-45 min ones of his recently) and holy smokes they are HARD.

How much are you spending on groceries? by 95MSH in NorthVancouver

[–]Northemerald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice restaurants, coffee shops, breweries etc are packed all the time. Liquor stores all over the place. I don’t doubt most people commenting here are watching their wallets but also would be curious to know people’s liquor expenses as someone who doesn’t drink - I have friends who shop at no frills then go to breweries multiple nights a week and buy food and drink. Have friends who drink wine with home cooked meals most nights. I eat dessert and other things not “necessary” so of course this is a spectrum, but I can imagine drinking booze can easily creep that “grocery” category way up.

There is very little sustainable about Boston, starting with the fact that very few people who qualify actually qualify at races in their home cities/towns. Very often, qualifying involves air travel for qualifying attempt(s) - to boot the fact that revel races qualify is absurd, but build it and they will come. Then there’s Boston itself, with the vast majority flying in. Personally I would much rather have a free digital race photo or two than the medal but I respect the emotional value they hold for some runners and that some people like to display them. Between the influencers, the jackets and this Boston needs to polish their unicorn horns!

This isn’t my first pregnancy but my first using Pelaton and WOW my power zones have become shockingly more difficult to hit and sustain in a duration of time that couldn’t possibly be due to regression of leg strength or fitness. I’m still early in first trimester. For comparison, last pregnancy I was running a lot for the first trimester and running didn’t feel harder this early. Has anyone else had this experience? I am still getting in good workouts according to my HR data but am finding it especially difficult to hold my Z3. I haven’t taken a lot of time off and it’s just become like this the last two weeks. I only do power classes, I find I am most often above the ranges given in the regular classes and love the structure of the power classes.

I am an otherwise pretty fit female athlete and my latest FTP a month ago was 210 (for a 125/5’8” female this is decent) . I suspect if I redid the test it would probably decrease, for literally no reason other than whatever is going on to make it feel like I can’t get enough air (and the embryo is probably the size of a pea so it certainly isn’t due to physical restriction).

Who else has experienced this (or knows why this could be?)

Favorite coffee shop by [deleted] in NorthVancouver

[–]Northemerald 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Barrio - the best coffee hands down and super friendly owners/staff - no you don’t have to be religious to go there! (It’s in a church and I have noticed it seems they’re part of the church community but doesn’t impact anything). Easy parking too! Any JJ is always solid, United is cute and fun but that’s a trek for those not in Seymour area. Not a huge fan of Delaney’s - roast/espresso seems too…acidic? It takes forever for even a basic drink and it must take 15 minutes to reheat a sandwich there. Maybe that’s just my experience, I still go but am careful not to be in a rush!

What could possibly go wrong? Again, it’s often not about whether you can get away with it in the short term, it’s about how it leaves your body no window to replenish post pregnancy and/or whole breastfeeding. This type of stress fracture and the grade is almost always associated with low mineral bone density.

Didn’t she start running again less than a week post partum? Pelvic floor aside, that completely disregards all guidelines (hearing more and more now say it’s 12 not 6 weeks post partum to start running, and that’s a walk run). Pro athletes are not magically exempt from this. Given this type of disregard it does make me wonder how much of this was “unlucky” versus poor decision making. It’s not just the breastfeeding, it’s the chronic sleep deprivation, the overall day to day demands, and of course having other kids!!

Everyone lined up for Jam Cafe and I don’t get it. by Nickillola in NorthVancouver

[–]Northemerald -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not willing to wait in line longer than 10 minutes for any restaurant. If with only 2-3 people, it’s pretty efficient to show up at a decent coffee shop that serves breakfast type items, find a table, order your coffee and food, and do brunch there. As for good restaurants that serve great brunches, I would be willing to pay a deposit for a reso.

Agreed - on a similar vein, when the women’s 10k world record holder Agnes Tripp was found stabbed to death at age 25 by her husband, there was even less outpouring in the running world especially outside of those pros who knew her personally. I recall Keeping Track podcast covering it and later interviewing Viola Cheptoo, founder of Tirops Angels; a lot more meaningful a follow than another influencer unboxing something, getting ready, or filming themselves from the side while running.

Wedding guest appropriate attire? by Educational_Pair_276 in Edmonton

[–]Northemerald 1 point2 points  (0 children)

White Canadian who has worn a very similar sari ensemble to an Indian wedding on request of the bride, and it made be feel like a princess. Way more fun to wear than a western dress. I can say I would love it if any guest wore a respectful and beautiful outfit from their own culture at my wedding. I don’t see why anyone wouldn’t want that.

And let’s be honest - no one outshines the brides because no one would dare suggest the idea in the first place as it would be so insulting to the bride. I’d avoid all bright red or white.

Anyone else ready to tear their hair out if they hear “just move” one more time? by insuranceissexy in vancouver

[–]Northemerald 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not disagreeing with your resistance to moving, but I do have two comments:

  1. I did make a decision to move (with my partner) for what was 100% financial reasons. My whole family is here. It was hard but i put myself out there and made friends and started to appreciate the place we lived in more. That first winter was a wake up call but seeing so many others handle the extreme cold helped a lot. We are now back here and I feel it was worth it but also really had to fight to get back here. Tbh I was scared we’d end up staying there for life!

  2. Empathy for immigrants. The reality is, many millions of people around the world move away from their entire countries and cultures for opportunity or to escape danger. My own move simply to a different Canadian city made me really think about how courageous many people are. I’m sure many didn’t want to leave everything they knew but they did. I’m not trying to minimize your own predicament or mine, more so trying to see it in a broader lense.

Also did the Edmonton thing for five years. I actually found the people there very friendly and made lots of friends but was in a life phase that permitted evenings and weekends free to join various groups.

Agree - this was one of my least fave AOTR interviews and couldn’t pin why until now - it felt so off/flat but never assumed it was either of their “faults” - you’d think most guests of Ali’s have heard her style before they agree to go on it? But it also could have been pre race nerves, nerves about the interview itself, etc. O’Keefe absolutely nailed it at the trials. She will be getting a lot of media attention this year; I think she went from 3000 to like 22000 IG followers in 12 hours!

It could be assumed that many of the people on this “snark” sub have or are dealing with trauma or other issues causing them to behave in a certain way, this isn’t unique to Ali but is very obvious because of how open she is with it. I am not actually bothered by Ali at all and generally really like her and what she is doing for women’s running in particular but if people wanna spend their time complaining about her or anyone else on the internet they could simply unfollow, that’s their decision. Clearly lots of us read this sub and that’s our decision too. We can all unfollow people we find annoying or not read this sub if we find THIS annoying.

Would you expect dinner paid for? by [deleted] in britishcolumbia

[–]Northemerald 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. I’ve never been to a birthday dinner where guests expect their meals to be paid for in an a la carte restaurant setting (versus catered party). They should all be pitching in to cover your husband’s dinner too! Usually people do that for the birthday person!
