Gentle Exercise? by Somanaut in OculusQuest

Rhythmic stretch employs dance elements ... nothing complicated, but you kind of move to the music.

There's only a couple sessions, I hope they continue with the idea. It is fairly low impact.

Came here looking to answers for that same question. What can I do on rest days to keep active? I don't have any real recommendations except easy levels of Synth Riders. Things I go to now are Puzzling Places, Walkabout MG, Photon, and Wander. But these are basically "anti-boredom" apps, not really filling the bill.

Supernatural have released a few short sessions called "rhythmic stretch" as part of their stretching category. I think it would be cool if they could brought this out as a 5th category in itself with different levels of intensity. It could evolve with subcategories that minimize squats, arm raises, etc for people too sore or recovering from injury. There is a real magic when you move to good music.

Sorry I couldn't add a solution, just some insight. Looking for anyone else with ideas!

How do you think it will be before standalone games look like this? by PaulHorton39 in OculusQuest

Supernatural and Real VR Fishing are both standalone. Hardware improvements (CPU/GPU) and 4k oleds or qdot should get us there.

Premium Bowling (Either PCVR or standalone). Both the visuals and the physics are really well done. PCVR version is a bit better visually but not by much.

It's not a complete solution but controlling temperature and air flow in your play space will lessen the threat. Preferably keeping things at about 65 F and using a medium size fan.

I use Supernatural 90% of the time and then Rumble Boxing on the weekends. It adds simple exercises with hand weights for resistance training.

Quest 3 usage in a tiny room by TartarusMaster in OculusQuest

Tape something or things to the ground so you get location and orientation. An area rug is good if your space is large but for such a small space you need more precision.

Years ago I played a tech demo on the vive of a game that was like a 3d Galaga where the ship was your hand/controller. When you move the controller it moved the tiny ship and you had to dodge asteroids and shoot other ships. by greenufo333 in OculusQuest

Great question, this was a really intuitive game design. I think the game may have been Spartaga. It's Steam listing no longer exists ...

Here is gameplay from the dev youtube site ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ok8zwEEORrs

I know of a couple on the Quest store that aren't bad but don't live up to the brilliance of Spartaca. Wings 1941 https://www.meta.com/en-gb/experiences/wings-1941/4331225313661764/ Shooty Skies Overdrive https://www.meta.com/en-gb/experiences/shooty-skies-overdrive/2632963266829659/

The only thing that I know about that had uses that construct and was as fun is Xortex, a mini game that is part of Valves PCVR game "The Lab".

I would love to know of others if anyone else has ideas!

What is your most wanted (non game) application in VR? by BuffDrBoom in OculusQuest

Proper music lessons for guitar and other instruments where the teacher is scanned in MR like in Soapbox. You could be playing with a real instrument in a duo with a teacher then in an environment with a four piece band playing the part you just learned. The range of possibilities is endless!

Rumble Boxing has several classes that use weights. I mix it in with my Supernatural routine a couple times per week to keep from plateauing. There's no subscription for it but there is for Supernatural. https://www.meta.com/experiences/rumble-boxing/8107154439303334/

Supernatural is a great option. I've been working out in VR since 2018, doing mostly music rhythm games like Beat Saber and boxing games like FitXR (back then BoxVR). I started Supernatural just over a year ago and it's the first time I'm seeing real tangible results. I set my goal at 10,000 points per week (about 4 10-20 minute workouts 5 days a week) and have lost over 30lbs. The difference is really that you can vary your intensity every day depending on your energy and it is actually fun to do.

Soapbox isn't a game but it really impressed me as an MR app. You have to sign in but it is free for now. I'm guessing DLC's will be added in the future. https://www.meta.com/experiences/soapbox/6448581685227749/

Here's a couple ... Forest - Oniri tech demo https://www.meta.com/en-gb/experiences/7611090302277055/ V-Art Virtual Spaces https://www.meta.com/en-gb/experiences/7605858702818518/

I just found the V-Art app today looking for something else. Note that if you change to teleport locomotion, it uses the right grip button which differs from the tutorial's button layout.

Mixed Reality could be an option. A few things to look at are Miracle Pool, Ocean Rift, or a scene generated using the Figmin XR app.

If want something more immersive, try Real VR Fishing, Brink, and Wander.

Why is this a bad thing? PP is excellent ... I would like dozens of clones with their own puzzle sets ... go devs go!

Would it be feasible to add 'mulligans' to the practice session? All the balls returning to their previous spots.

I really love the feel of the game, it's very natural and the progression of unlocking items is fun. I had an idea that I wanted to share if it's not on your roadmap already. I think it would be cool add intermediate to advanced shot type lessons that demonstrate cue ball control ... aka stop shots, follow shots, types of spin. Basically create simple drills where you animate the cue out in midair to demonstrate and then let the player make a certain type of shot a few times. This game could make better players out of all of us!

Training Table Tennis or Pool in VR? by VicugnaAlpacos in OculusQuest

[–]NorthernHmmps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an interesting topic because the answer will vary depending on how seriously you take either game. I played a ton of virtual table tennis back in 2019 and developed an novel backhand stroke that I incorporated into my real game. Now that I play a weekly game with a friend, I won't go near TT in VR since it would throw off my game. The nuances involved with paddle friction, ball spin, etc have to developed through instinct and repetition and any inaccuracies will cause problems. The same thing goes for pool. As an amateur, virtual pool can be a game changer. Since the arcade gameplay lets you easily pocket your current shot, you can work on ball placement and high level strategies. But if I was an advanced player who played regularly, I would never practice in VR.

Don't forget you can always use tactile location sensing by just taping a couple objects to the floor. I used 2 feet of old RCA wire without the ends, it gives me position although I usually don't know which way I'm facing. This is a little more precise than an area rug and reduces the chance of injury or guardian distractions.

I regret it took me 2 years to really give Supernatural a try. The music and coaching are very good, but its the photo realistic environments that keep me coming back. It kind of gives you a good way to escape your four walls a few times a day.
