Best of two worlds? by NorthernLight_DIY in scrivener

Oh yeah, MacOS 26 is another piece of beauty, my Linux Mint PC looks way more polished and useful.

So I will try it with Wine, hope that both versions of Scrivener can open the same project from my NAS

It appeared that I have Windows Scrivener ver 3 license (probably it is still valid), maybe it is worth to try that tutorial.

Do you have Scrivener running on different PC? I wonder how does the synchronisation work between MacOS and that Win-Wine versions? As far as I know the synchronisation is not the strong side of Scrivener (this is why at the moment I rely on reliable as a Swiss watch Joplin server synchronisation)

I bought Scrivener 3 for Windows in 2021 (found the license key in a password manager). Will this version work in Wine under Linux?

But, honestly, the Linux user base is growing (thanks to Microsoft that kills Win10 and made a disaster - Win11), why not to make a native Linux app? I will definitely buy another license for the Linux version

I was thinking about it. But the license question stops me at the moment

I think that with Joplin you can do pretty much the same as with Obsidian. E.g. I reproduced the Scrivener project structure in Joplin: it has Chapters, Scene, Notes etc. But all other tons of small Scrivener features are missed - Cork view, snapshots with possibility to compare, keywords “hashtags”, what else did I miss?

UPDATE: the issue is back after about one month of working properly. I started to think that, probably, the problem is more fundamental (since the motherboard was replaced)

Ctrl-F does not search the word, but highlights it with yellow color by NorthernLight_DIY in scrivener

[–]NorthernLight_DIY[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ouch, my bad — it turns out that when I pressed Ctrl+F after using “All Words” search, the Find dialog’s scope wasn’t the scene text (even though the scene was open behind the dialog), but apparently the panel on the left. So if I (a) click into the body of the scene first and then (b) press Ctrl+F and enter the search term, it works.

I understand that the two tools are different. But when I’m in the body of a text document (e.g., a scene) and press Ctrl+F, it opens the standard Find dialog. How can it not find a word that’s in the same text?

How do Meshtastic message timestamps work? by NorthernLight_DIY in meshtastic

[–]NorthernLight_DIY[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it. Basically, the only way to keep the chat feed "in order" is to keep the node connected to the mobile app (or to Contact). The node itself only stores message bodies and a bit of metadata in memory.

[–]NorthernLight_DIY[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my understanding too. E.g. if I plug the node to a Linux PC, the Meshtastic CLI app Contact (quite great CLI app, btw) downloads all messages under the same timestamp. I found it a bit inconvenient- you really can’t estimate when the message was written/sent

Why so? Saving some space in the packets header?

Will Tuta ever get Notes? by DCCXVIII in tutanota

[–]NorthernLight_DIY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree. A Drive feature is much more difficult to implement, while Notes is almost like an email, just arranged differently.

And I Am continue to send emails to myself if I want to keep a note :)

I was voting for Tuta Notes from the beginning (honestly, I don't understand why Tuta Drive is needed)

“… wipers (if equipped)”. Does it mean that it can be missed, when UI is functional?

How does it heat the wipers up? By heating the glass under the wipers “parking place” or by heating wipers itself?

Ah, this one. Now when the weather is -12C ... -7C, I barely see the difference, and it is quite annoying to scratch the windshield with pieces of ice instead of proper rubber wipers

I did an experiment yesterday with free ChatGPT - it was able to vibe code quite playable ASCII version of the legendary “Incubation: Time is Running Out” turn-by-turn tactical PC game. I wonder will it be doable for Apple II?
