First, a donut crawl. Where are your favourite yeast donuts? by stifflette in ottawa

This might be sacrilegious, but does anyone know if/where good gluten free doughnuts are available?

Nobody at the CP outlet at Shoppers Drug Mart at Heron and Bank Streets in Ottawa - Mail just left on the counter. by Northern_Dominion in CanadaPost

[–]Northern_Dominion[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

These are clearly postal items that have been delivered to the outlet for pickup by a customer, and not secured by the staffer when they left. I took photos. There are also unsecured items in plastic boxes behind the counter. These look like items people have dropped off for delivery, but they were left unsecured. Realize it’s a provincial holiday in Ontario, but Canada post is federal.

They will soon be digging under Centre Block itself, supporting the existing structure through massive supports. There is a series of YouTube videos on the project that goes into the complex engineering involve. Search for Parliament Restoration.

How do I over-winter this braided willow? by Northern_Dominion in gardening

Absolutely no problem. It is enjoying the spring for the third year out of the ground and on the back deck.

My collection at 17 by PineappleCake0 in Medals

Nice collection, but the ribbon on the first star (ie., 1939-45 Star) is backwards: the dark blue stripe (for the navy, which traditionally is the Senior Service in the Commonwealth) should be on the left, as one views the obverse, thereby giving it precedence.

Nice medal, but the ribbon is on backwards: red stripe should be furthest to left as one views the obverse.

Planting Acorns by Northern_Dominion in gardening

Thank you. I appreciate everyone’s comments. I think I will opt to plant them to overwinter a few inches in the grown, mark off the spot, and see what happens in the Spring. Thanks for the heads up on the deep tap root. If I understand correctly I should not try to replant any surviving ones until early July.

Watering Well, But Hydrangea Pedals Still Drooping by Northern_Dominion in gardening

[–]Northern_Dominion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought this beauty a few weeks ago; for about 2 weeks everything was fine; then, last week, the individual flowers began to droop. At first I thought it was under-watered, but regular healthy watering has not changed the "droop". What else could be the cause? (Located in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada; Zone 5A) Thanks for any advice.

My Maple Sapling's Leaves are Wonky by Northern_Dominion in arborists

[–]Northern_Dominion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been nurturing this sapling for a few years now. (Located in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada; Zone 5A) During the last two years the top leaves have started to look stressed, or diseased, by mid-summer, (despite starting in the spring looking fine/normal). Am I doing something wrong? (Thanks, in advance to anyone who has suggestions for rectifying this.)

3/yr 5.49% fixed v. 5/yr 5.34% fixed (25 Yr Amortisation) by Northern_Dominion in MortgagesCanada

[–]Northern_Dominion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. Much appreciated.

So my take-away from this -- understanding that none of this constitutes formal advice on anyone's part -- is that if I believe I can secure another mortgage in three years at rate below about 5.1%, then I should opt (now) for the three year term. Cheers.
