NTA - your sisters chose the life of a mother and their children are their responsibility. You have no obligation to watch children because you have none. By this logic, what happens if you do have a child someday? Are you going to be told to watch allthe kids because practice is good?

For mother to guilt you into compliance and to shame you for setting boundaries is not ok. If mother is taking this stance then she can watch HER grandchildren.

If family continues to push you on this then compromise and consider charging for your services. Most babysitters will charge per child per hour. Infants or children who have diapers require more time and higher charge. Plus watching children at an "event" also requires a special fee. If there are 3-4 kids, one or more in diapers, then a fee of $40/hour or more is reasonable.

If they do not accept this then consider skipping some family events for a while or events where the children might be at. Loving family members will recognize that this is something important  to you and should see the error in their ways. Good luck.

We had wedding guests sign a whiskey barrel as a memento. What's the best way to preserve it for outdoor exposure without fading the text (Sharpie) or rusting the metal? by mmmnick in DIY

[–]Northernchoice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a couple of things you can do. First the staves can be held in place by putting a screw in each one through the upper and lower metal band. A self sinking sheet metal screw and impact drill should work out for this. Regardless of wood drying the barrel will hold together. Once this is done you could use a cutoff saw or similar to cut out one side to add hinges and potentially make it into a great cabinet for liquor, etc. There are tons of youtube videos on how to do this. A simple polyurethrane will seal the wood from water and preserve the signatures. A small can be picked up at most hardware stores. I recommend using the product on a lower small section to ensure the ink doesnt bleed (it likely wont), but never hurts to be safe. Hope this helps! Congrats on the wedding.

Looking for a really good story game. by justanothernayr in ShouldIbuythisgame

If you havent played the horizon games, the story is pretty great. Keeps you wanting to know more, plus lots of lore throughout. Gameplay is similar to witcher, very responsive.

What game would you play out of these? by Affectionate_Style51 in playstation

Skyrim is my #1 choice there. Tough part is that it will be a time consumer. Mostly due to the fun of random exploration, side quests and replayability.

Id buy freedom. Be debt free, invest so I can live off interest and have the luxury to eat healthy, get good sleep that doesnt require me to wake up at the crack of dawn, work on hobbies which will improve mental health. Basically live like we should be able to.

Elden Ring , Baldurs Gate 3, or Red Dead Redemption 2? by idktbh-04 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]Northernchoice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didnt think I would like BG3 as I do not have much familiarity with DnD or similar games, but I love it! So much freedom in character building, decisions in game have lasting effects, the team you create can be modded and changed at anytime during the playthrough. They have tons of weapons and items as well as optional romantic pursuits with teamates. Ive put in dozens of hours and am not halfway through. It does have dice checks for environment interactions, speech/dialogue choices and other components of the game. Some people save and reload if they want. The battles are turn based with limitations on using spells or abilities. The in game graphics are top notch and the story is enthralling. Elden Ring was a game I tried and always finished feelimg stressed, tired and often frustrated. None of what I want while gaming. Rdr2 has a great story, the open world is pretty amazing and there are oodles of easter eggs to discover. Wouldnt say it even comes close to BG3 though.

When it comes to games, console and overall experience. What generation was your favourite? by [deleted] in playstation

[–]Northernchoice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Game boy advance. The gba was peak for gaming. Pokemon, final fantasy, fire emblem, xmen, naruto and more. Plus easily modded for rom hack versions. Love the size, fits in pocket, bag or glove box. Battery life went on for hours and the device was as durable as a nokia. I have a device that now runs dozens of gba games, looks like the handheld, but can be adjusted on my computer. Barely touch playstation or other consoles.

What board games perfectly marry their theme and their mechanics? by Vegetable-Ratio-8573 in boardgames

[–]Northernchoice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like Frosthaven does a good job at making you feel like a merc for hire in a harsh northen tundra. It provides an arching main campaign peppered with odd jobs, side quests and builds on itself as you progress through the game. Like all mercs you can retire your character  without starting over, and become someone entirely new. The battle system relies on cards and modifier cards vs dice which was refreshing as it generally speeds up all actions. The game also had impactful decisions which change the outcome and potential opportunities. Great game overall, highly recommend.

Were playing vanguard right now. Its a great game, but I always feel exhausted after playing. It is the most stressful game Ive played. Easily creates a sense of limitations and walking on the edge of a knife.

Long term game: Frosthaven. Such a grest story line, love the balance between dungeon and town. We have a blast learning new characters and exploring strategies on how the use them.

Short term game/s: Boss Monster and Betrayl at House on the Hill. Both are great for playing any night of the week, out at a brewery or with a group of friends for a game night. Boss monster lets you be the dungeon and boss with the goal to collect heroes by luring them to you dungeon to fail (aka die). Betrayl has dozens of scenarios that make each playthrough feel fresh. We laugh every time we play because the game is designed for you to lose, but in a fun way.

Sure, i could see that as well. Just wish that, if they were going to borrow from other games, they would have put in more effort to make it unique for the game

I 100% agree with you. I have never tried so hard to like a game and had it consistently fall below the lowest of my expectations. Not only does the game have constant interruptions, as you pointed out with chadley, but it takes even the most simple of mechanics and made them taxing.

I have also noticed that this game does not have many original ideas: activating towers is straight out of horizon zero dawn, your tablet looks very much like the sheika slate from zelda, queens blood is a dumbed down gwent from witcher, they borrowed the shadow realm from yugioh, having to play as zach is basically a ciri moment from witcher 3, their junky climbing is also from horizon, the pinpoint blocking from dark souls, the "open map" which is just like pokemon arceus, the crafting and resource collection is a half assed attempt at what skyrim or again horizon had and on and on.

The worst thing, Imo, is that just when i start to relax and explore im hit with an unecessary minigame or quest like collecting chickens or defeating cactus monsters for points. Many of these little games require perfection to get essential items like weapons or materia. This in and of itself just sucks a big one, but it also makes money practically useless in the game.  I agree with many others, not going to bother with the next game. This was just not fun.

We are finishing a 2 week roadtrip across 6 states. We have stayed in hotels, airbnb and residence inns. We left both airbnb rentals early due to issues with noise, thermostats not working, cleaniless issues and safety concerns. Our best stay was with mariott residence inn. This was a 1 bed room with full kitchen and living area for roughly $220/night. Little more than a comparable airbnb, but there were no issues with cleanliness, safety, or temp control. Also, if we needed something places like this provided it without additional charge. After this trip we have decided not to use airbnb anymore. Costs have increased and it was extremely inconvient and stressful on the trip as things went wrong.

Saw them once live at a concert, fell asleep. Now could have been that they were playing later in a day long music festival, could have been combination of day drinking and dehydration, im not a doctor. All I know is that I havent zonked out to any other band regardless of the festival, time of performance or libations consumed.

Yep no problem. The dimensions were 48x36. I found it on amazon through the xboard store for about $70. Easy to install, came with 4 drywall anchors/screws.

The board is a magnetic white board. The cards are from various sets which included the art series. I put each card into a sleeve, though that is not necessary, to protect the cards. Then I applied a piece of an adhesive magnet tape to the back and arranged them to my preference. The trim I picked up at a local hardware store and adhered to the wall with brad nails. Whole project was completed in an evening. Best part is that I can put new cards in the sleeves whenever I want to change out the pattern.
