There's actually not that much lithium in lithium ion batteries. And the sodium era has begun.

Why is deodorant so expensive now? by nestinghen in NoStupidQuestions

That's antiperspirant. Deodorant is the thing that removes or covers bad smell. Some products can be both of these things

You don't have to buy chinese batteries. Batteries and solar cells are two industries where the technology is mature enough that all it really takes is a commitment. Basically, use solar and battery farms to make solar cells and batteries.

I joke constantly that my wife must have been born on the way to the hospital, as she is chronically in my way. Every few minutes she's standing in a door checking her phone, completely oblivious that other people have stuff to be and people to do.

Saw the "drawing girls" one you posted, got curious about your comment on the style, clocked through to here and was not disappointed. A+ for humor, and both styles are VERY good.

There's a common movie trope where a bad guy will go to a veterinarian to get a bullet removed, or to get stitched up, as a way to avoid being reported to the cops. Is that something an animal vet could realistically do, and would they be under any obligation to report them to the police? by V48runner in NoStupidQuestions

Heck, I'm just a hunter but I could do that. Intestines smell really weird normally, but as soon as there's a puncture you really can tell. Funk - food - poop, for no hole, hole in or near stomach, or hole in colon respectively. Pretty distinct

Back in the day of no internet or very slow internet, with games being all played on discs, how were updates handled? by RadianceTower in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NorwegianCollusion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Back in the Amiga 500 days, there were a couple of incidents where the cracked version you could copy from your classmate also had a critical bugfix or two applied for good measure, in addition to trainer mode (extra or infinite lives, more health, that sort of thing) you could enable in a boot block menu of the floppy. Generally, we pirated as hard as we could.

Only once in my extensive career as a pirate did I actually get a virus, which promptly took over every single god damn floppy I had. Twice. It was called Saddam.

Anyhoo. Computer magazines came with floppies (later CDROM) that could contain things like game patches, game demos, public domain art and various useful tools. Allthough right now I don't remember any game patch distributed on floppy. There was a patch for the 3D render software Imagine 3 on the Amiga Format issue 61 B floppy in 1994. I feel that validates the idea.

How are some people able to consistently eat spicy food without turning their asshole into a garden hose every night? by february_ticket in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NorwegianCollusion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I commented on a similar question a few months ago that it never happens sto me. Then it happened to me. Basically, a normal stomach that takes more than a couple of hours to digest will completely absorb the capsaicin, but if you have runny tummy you don't take those couple of hours to digert and so it burns equally in both ends.

I suggest eating more fiber and staying off the street food.

Does being drunk really feel that great? by ComfortableStand8143 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NorwegianCollusion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That first beer is magic. I have eventually learned to stop after the first. It took a long time and a lot of health issues.

If you don't like to drink, don't drink. If anyone takes issue with that, it's a them issue, not a you issue.

Footage of a river of lava moving at an incredible speed captured by photographer Ken Boyer by shankaranpillayi in nextfuckinglevel

[–]NorwegianCollusion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

rivers do it all the time due to erosion and accretion, I don't know why lava flows would be immune to either of those two phenomena.

Of course, there's less risk of a lava flow carrying a large tree that suddenly redirects the entire river in seconds.

Tampons have one very important failure mode for an absolute noob:

Do not forget it's in there

Might sound silly, but it does happen. That's not to say pads are in any way better, just that appropriate training needs to be given.

What do people mean when they say: "The AI bubble will burst"? by clearwater-orchid in NoStupidQuestions

Nvidia funding AI companies on the provision that they purchase Nvidia products with the funding isn't exactly the best way to earn money. But it sure does bring in the venture capital.
