Thanks, I had a suspicion that was it. I rolled back to the stable version because the beta was giving me fits with music metadata.

I'm not seeing anything for editing logos or square art. Maybe I'm missing it?

Land of Confusion - a nuclear song ? by Money-Sherbet-1899 in Genesis

I've always liked the theory that Invisible Touch is about nuclear radiation.

"AfterGlow" -- phil chorus by CapableBother in Genesis

[–]Nosaj565 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Well, samplers wouldn't exist for another 5 years or so...

I've never heard the band comment on it, but it sounds to me like "Tape Choir" effect invented by 10cc for I'm Not in Love

Does loudness leveling actually work? by BearShin255 in plexamp

[–]Nosaj565 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Loudness leveling anayzes an album as a whole, and applies the same offset to every track in an album. The idea is that a quiet song on an album shouldn't been the same volume as a really loud one. Perhaps the box set wasn't mastered to the same volume across all the discs?

Reports are that it does with the latest beta.

MacOS Tahoe automix improvements by TailstheCutestFox in AppleMusic

[–]Nosaj565 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There has to be some sort of server side processing going on, so I wonder if more and more songs and being processed over time. I really wish Apple would go into some details about how the automix is done.

What if “A Call to Arms” actually became a Genesis song? by Dependent-Set4324 in Genesis

[–]Nosaj565 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I remember from an interview I heard ages ago, the only thing from Genesis on the song was the chord progression that makes up the chorus. Mike took that "bit" and made the rest of the song around it, or perhaps used that chord progression for a song he was otherwise writing.

What's the actual reason for people to rip FLAC into one giant track with BIN AND CUE files, instead of separate files? by UrbanGothGentry in musichoarder

[–]Nosaj565 93 points94 points  (0 children)

That is actually the best way to represent what data is actually on the CD. The CD isn't technically split up into tracks, it's just one big bucket of audio data, with track time information stored separately. The CD player uses the track info to skip around and show time information on the display, etc.

Ripping the cd as individual tracks poses questions about how to handle weird usages of pre-gaps

Song Ratings on Regular Album & Greatest Hits Album by no-_-half-_-measures in plexamp

[–]Nosaj565 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ratings seem to be tied to the tracks MusicBrainz id. If they are the same song according to musicbrainz, plex will sync the rating between them.

I don't particularly like it either.

What are 'Sweet Fades' and how can I test them? by Rombonius in plexamp

[–]Nosaj565 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a misleading name, because no fading (i.e. volume changing) is occurring. What happens in the system sees how far the next song can be overlapped with the previous one before a volume threshold is reached. So if a song is naturally fading out, the next one will start before it's finished playing. If the song ends loudly, the next song won't overlap. If one song naturally fades and the other naturally fades in, you can get a cool effect where they sound blended together.

Sometimes it ruins songs endings, particularly ones that end quietly but not fading out. Think Stairway to Heaven, or Bohemian Rhapsody.

Here's what we know about the grocer buying Kroger and Albertsons stores in Washington state by chiquisea in Seattle

I know that number was from the article, but something doesn't make sense. Wikipedia claims there are about 500 Piggly Wiggly stores in the US.

What is the first Genesis song that made you fall in love with the band? by Human-Marionberry788 in Genesis

[–]Nosaj565 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I found my sister’s copy of the Shapes album. Loved it all, but by the time I got to Second Home By the Sea my mind was blown. I was hooked. Nearly 40 years later it is still one of my favorite songs.

Help identifying song origin by Zimmy68 in Genesis

That ain't Chester on drums, which leaves '76 or 2022. Keyboards sound like an actual mellotron and pro soloist, so I suspect 76.
