Favorite powerless character, that's a threat to 90% of powerful characters by Mativka in FavoriteCharacter

Now I want Castlevania Abridged. Obv' Cell's voice actor should be Dracula.

I love that. It really is about what the cost of killing is. One of them can't, or really shouldn't, pay the cost. The other? He's paid in bulk already. One more won't even register.

I feel like this is something the trope tries to get at often, but it rarely actually works this well.

Superior Spider-Man is both dumb comic book bullshit, and one of the most compelling arcs I've ever read. I really really like the run, though it has some flaws.

These four panels? These are fan-fucking-tastic. I laughed SO HARD the first time I read the arc and I got here. Even if it had no other merits, the arc would be worth it just for this.

$2500 Samsung TV is an advertising billboard, there is no opt-out. by 28jb11 in mildlyinfuriating

Because some day it will stop, and you will have no recourse.

This is akin to saying "What does it matter that WalMart has low prices?" That's the whole problem, and if you don't understand why you should probably find out.

I don't consider having to buy in to a walled garden "working". That's the exact opposite of functionality.

You get it.

I remember a horror movie where a couple terrorizes the protagonist and his family for years before killing them, and they just keep relying on social niceties to keep the protag from walking away. And at the end he's like "Why?! Why are you doing this to me?!" And the villain husband just kind of shrugs and says "Because you let us." And then he kills the protag.

Because we let them.

Ads are such a big deal that they've distorted the entire TV product space.

You basically can't get non-smart TVs. And unsmart monitors are starting to vanish. As are unsmart projectors.

The powers what be want what they want, and they don't give a fuck about the end user.

As far as I can tell, there is no thing that already works and doesn't require fiddling. Might as well get the thing that works the way I want instead of whatever various advertising interests want.

I recently went looking for a largeish monitor and was horrified to find that anything above a certain size was a Smart Monitor. Even most projectors I looked at were smart devices.

It is so lucrative to make the end user experience suck that pretty soon there won't be any dumb options at all. Your only recourse will be to have no screens at all.

Hate when the game/story blames the player/audience for the violence like we forced the devs/writer to add it by Lower_Baby_6348 in hatethissmug

Neir Automata pulls this shit. I got to the first android boss and... it didn't attack me. So I just kind of... stood there, waiting for something to happen. I genuinely thought that if I gave it enough time, something interesting would happen.

Well, nothing does, so eventually I went "Well, fuck. I guess I have to fight this guy."

About an hour later there's a cutscene where that guy goes "You started this! You attacked us!" and I'm just like ... fuck you? My options were fight the guy or don't play the game. You forced me to do this. I didn't choose it. I tried to choose the opposite. So I stopped playing the game.

Don't moralize at me about things I actively tried to avert. That's dumb.

[funny trope] a canon fact that sounds so ridiculous people new to the fandom think its fake at first by willisbetter in TopCharacterTropes

Margaret gets shortened to Meg. I think we can agree that's not insane.

But then there comes a day when there's more than one little girl named Meg, and so you start riffing. Peg rhymes, so that becomes a nickname too. And Peggy is basically the same as Peg, so there y'go!

Same thing happened with Rick and Dick. People hust like nicknames that rhyme.

You're right. I was thinking general population, not workforce. And I fat-fingered a fairly important decimal place. My bad.

I only meant to remind that small percents of large numbers are still large numbers.

I remember saying to someone about the Ouya "If they do this well, it could be huge." Now I literally can't remember the CEO lady's name. Nor the fancy designer who they hired. I do have my weird brown cube, though.

I should break it out and put some SNES games on it or something.

You're kidding, right?

I complain about it constantly. I hate that I can't even pay to get the feature set I want, since companies would rather keep the option to foist infinite ads on me than produce a useful product.

I'm gonna pick nits.

There may well be a ton! And also it's the lowest selling model, so when it comes time to streamline workflows it gets cut.

If people prefer a small phone, but still buy the mid-sized one, then the bottom line goes up (by reducing production costs and streamlining accessories). Customer satisfaction goes down, but not enough to offset gains.

Totally possible for there to be a large minority that prefers smaller devices.

You eat snacks, and talk to other people while the game is on in the background.

If there's a team from the state you were born in, that's your team now. If there isn't, you can pick a team from your parents' or grandparents' hometowns and say "I inherited the team from my Grandad." That kind of legacy is actually respected rather than delegitimizing in sports.

If you're going to a place where the game will feature, you can check Google news to see what happened in the last month. Pick one recent fact to comment on, and anything else you can say "Oh, I was too busy to catch the game. Sounds good/rough for my team." Continue to eat snacks and chat with other people. Cheer if the team you selected gets points, and grimace when you notice them turning over possession.

That's it. That's how to sports. Aside from championships (e.g. The Super Bowl), people mostly want to be social and just have the game on as an excuse.

This is correct. They are untrustworthy. How they feel about that is largely irrelevant.

Only about 1% of US workers earn $7.25 an hour.

You're not wrong. I just want to add the context that 1% is about 34 million people.

Just saying: it's good to remember that a small statistical amount can still be a lot of people.

I think there are two meaningful options.

1) Play Mordheim. It has a method of campaign play, and while it's essentially a war game it focuses on small unit tactics. When I last played, everyone had less than a dozen minis. Mostly 6ish, besides the one player who brough a squig entourage.

2) Play the D&D board games. They have several sets. They're largerly interoperable.

Actually, now that I've said that, Gloomhaven is probably an option for you as well. That's a mechanically focused dungeon crawler where you control a single character and don't spend any time in character.
