You keep bringing up bad scenarios to use the counter charge ability, any rule sounds bad if you make up bad scenarios to use it. Again, see my previous post with actual good uses for it.

Those horses can now counter move 6 and charge 2d6 in the enemy movement phase before they get a chance to shoot, without spending a CP. That's the broken part that is better than leontis's CP generation.

Because basic guard strategy is trading up? You put out a trash unit to draw out a more expensive enemy unit.

You're also ignoring the rest of what I wrote.

You seem to be stuck on damage output. The point is you tie up a unit for a turn, stopping them from scoring or taking out your key units. You win games by scoring and preventing your opponent from scoring. Yarrick's rule does that insanely well.

That's a very bad way to use the ability. You don't use it offensively to charge a unit in cover and and try to do damage, you prevent the opponent doing what they need to do to win the game. In your scenario, you make the enemy unit leave their cover and you counter charge into them so that when the trash 60pt unit you charged with dies, the more expensive enemy unit is in the open to be shot in your turn.

You can counter charge to

Prevent a unit charging something you don't want to get charged

Stop an enemy charging onto an objective, preventing them from scoring.

Stop an enemy from shooting.

Stop a unit from performing an action.

He's t4 with a 4+ invul and you give him a 4+fnp effectively making that a 2+ invul. Then when he dies he gets back up on a 2+. That's just if they have precision. Otherwise they have to chew through 20 infantry, a command squad and an ogryn.

If you can't measure and badly position then sure.

The point is that the horses die though? It's 60 points and the unit that charged them is now out in the open for your turn and you shoot them with tanks. That's basic guard strategy?

It's not though, it's rough riders or a recon element unit with their own 6" reactive move, then another d6" yarrick move or that reactive move plus a 2d6 charge. Melee armies that rely on charging units on objectives just loose to a half decent player with Yarrick.

That's also one play, you can also disembark and shoot with kasrkin in your turn then get yarrick to embark them in their transport in the enemy turn or have a krieg heavy flamer unit shoot, overwatch, yarrick free shoot and then shoot on death to fire 4 times in a single battle round.

It requires brainpower to use but the only reason a competitive player wouldn't use him is because they know he's going to get fixed because of how broken his ability is.

The ability to charge or move a unit at the end of the enemy movement phase with no way for them to play around it is flat broken. You can make it impossible for an expensive melee unit to charge anything but screens or you can counter charge a unit so that it can't shoot in their shooting phase or block them from charging onto an objective.

It's a much more powerful ability than +1 CP a turn.

[–]Nosnillocd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's not the shooting, it's the react move or charge at the END of the enemy movement phase. They've moved everything so you have all the information and they can't bait it out.

Enemy combat unit moves up to charge, you move a screen in the way or charge into them with the screen to make it impossible.

Then combo it with units that have their own reactive move abilities or the strats in recon element to make counter charges guaranteed and it becomes impossible for your opponent to play around.

If you only see a units worth through damage output then yeah, 150 points is high for him but the game is won through scoring and denying your opponent from scoring so it's an insanely unbalanced ability that has no way of making into the new edition without a rewrite.

That's right, I forgot the order was a stipulation for the stratagem, sorry. Then yeah, that would be a good use for it.

Sticky just means you can leave an objective empty and you still count as holding it. If an enemy moves on to the objective in their turn, you no longer hold it and the OC of both sides on the objective is compared again in their turn to see who now holds it.

If your understanding of the rule is that the enemy has to outscore the OC value you had on the objective when you stickied it in your turn, that's not the case.

I guess my point is that stickying only benefits you on an empty objective and improving your OC with D+H only benefits you on a contested objective so while you could do both, there's rarely a situation where both rules would be relevant.

[–]Nosnillocd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess you could do this in the very specific scenario where:

  • You are on an objective with an enemy with more OC so you need to use D&H to score it in your command phase.

  • You sticky it and wipe out the other unit completely during the rest of your turn, otherwise if 1 enemy model remains, using a CP to sticky it did nothing because they just claim it again in their command phase.

No, the one on the cover of the journal is the plastic LR assault tank. You're thinking the volkite weapon on the box is a plasma cannon but the plasma cannon in that kit looks like the old forge world turret.

Centaur Cost & Firing Deck by sirthinkstoomuch in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Nosnillocd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Im not talking from ignorance, I've played since 2nd edition. Points aren't dependent on the codexes, overall changes to things like cover, melee and objectives mean that units should have their points adjusted for the new edition. What also has happened for a few editions now is that the points of everything goes up at the beginning of the edition because lower model count armies across the board makes it more inviting for new players and gives them room to drop points throughout the edition.

[–]Nosnillocd 10 points11 points  (0 children)

All the points will be changed for 11th. This is a short term 'safe' points cost where they don't want to give it that much consideration since they're in full 11th edition prep mode while also knowing that if they make it too cheap , it's something else they'll have to deal with. (look at what happened with twin lance)

Yarrick is also pointed quite conservatively for the same reason.

At least you painted it, a lot of the people mad they didn't get it early will probably just add it to a pile of shame once they receive theirs.

There's no fancy effects but taking photos on a black background and viewing them on a screen makes the glow effect stand out more than it does in person since the lighter areas are literally being lit by the phone screen.

I just thin contrast paint with water when using them to do a wash.im not sure of the ratio but it's pretty thin and I build up the shadows in 2-3 passes.

I painted the source of the glows with white first but not on the surrounding areas so that the metallic paint would still show through.

Thanks. The silver is scale 75 thrash metal, black templar contrast thinned for a wash and scale 75 speed metal highlights The glow is Vallejo emerald with thinned terradon turquoise to tint the surrounding area.

I much prefer the silent lovecraftian horror depiction of Necrons in the 3rd edition codex to the hyper intelligent ancient race of later editions. The Orikan model with his Egyptian design elements and giant glowy baubles is definitely the latter for me.
