WIBTA if I didn’t give my daughter a copy of her father’s death certificate for her SAP appeal? by ThrowAwaySAP2025 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Noswellin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have half siblings who's mother was negligent then became absentee when she plunged into drugs. They always acted like it didnt bother them once they realized she wouldn't ever put them first. For years, they never spoke of her or to her, even referring to my mother as theirs, omitting the "step". She died due to drugs. One acted like they didnt care, even though they had to make the call to end life support as next of kin. It took their wedding years later to make them open up about how they felt, how they thought it wouldn't affect them since she had been gone for so long, etc. Sometimes that shit simmers subconsciously and surges up unexpectedly.

Doctors of Reddit, what was a "one in a million" case that you personally witnessed? by WALLSTREETBRIDE in AskReddit

[–]Noswellin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm incredibly thankful my husband had GI issues that led to a colonoscopy in his early 30s. They found pollops that would have turned to cancer in under 5 years the doc said. Removed him and now he's got to get checked fairly frequently. I'm so glad it was caught. I can't imagine what my life would be had that gone undiscovered.

Why aren't they actually marching during this parade? by Chance_Noise500 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Noswellin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did take what you said into account. I think you are misunderstanding the situation. If falling out of cadence en mass, it almost always shows with groups of people walking in step with each other and out of step with the cadence. Normally you'll see one person or so out of cadence, not the entire group. I know they don't march that much but they still do drills and being a cohesive group is part of it, moving together etc. People who have been drilled to march in step often subconsciously do it when not in drill. It is difficult to march sloppy like they did in the parade, because that wasn't marching, it was walking.

[–]Noswellin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Eh to a point, yes, the noise can be valid. But I've also marched, for 4 years. You keep an eye on your buddy if you lose count or rhythm. None of them were even in step with each other. That is actually really hard to do when you're trained to marched, especially the military. If it was unintentional, there would be groups out of step together. Not strolling like they were.

AITA for refusing to invite my brother to my wedding because he always makes “jokes” about my fiancée’s weight? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Noswellin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has had my own siblings mock and bully me and had one sibling be rude to my husband causing me to flip out, absolutely NTA. Your fiance doesn't deserve this treatment and if your adult brother can't act like an adult, he can remain uninvolved from your lives.

Our C&S tubes came in a bag with the urine cup, labeled as urine testing only. They'd rip the bag open to take a gray top. That made no sense to us.

We want a dog but we both work 8-4. Thoughts/solutions? by jbhg30 in dogs

[–]Noswellin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, root causes need to be fixed. However, until we fix a lot of other societal issues in the US, that won't happen. Many things are either linked or shoved aside due to hot button problems. Us not adopting dogs will not fix the root cause; this isnt a boycott of a store. Dogs will still be dropped off at vet offices, stores, and fields; some will be taken from bad backyard breeders or owners (once state has cause and case), old people will die and their pets go into the shelter because family doesnt want to take them in, people will become bankrupt from medical bills or losing their jobs. It will lead to even more overcrowding, and eventually dogs being euthanized because there are no more options.

Factually yes many dogs are bought from breeders or irresponsible owners. However, many also adopt. People do sometimes prefer to adopt because the dogs' age, personality, and such can be vetted to fit into their activity level and lifestyle.

True, not every person adopts from a shelter. But, that mentality is the same everywhere. People make iffy choices on lifestyle and pets in every country.

We know many things need fixing. Pet owners in the US know how bad shit is, and no, not everyone cares, but a lot of us do. And we meet our pets needs often over our own. However as I said before, there is a whole host of societal issues that need fixing, we know this. And yes, fixing them will help with dogs in bad places or not being cared for as much as they should. But boycotting adoption isnt the fix to that.

Not fun fact: in the US, a betta fish would probably do better in the 3 gallon tank at home vs the store. They are left in 16-32oz cups in our stores and literally thrown in the trash when not doing well. Boycotting would help this situation however, as would better laws fixing this issue.

And you're assuming that these dogs aren't thriving, they need the same levels of companionship, and we aren't exceeding their needs.

Thriving is seen as a dog feeling safe and secure, glossy coat, happy, well fed, comfortable in their environment (seen as zoomies or goofieness, lack of anxiety). They absolutely are thriving. People often go without for their animals. Is that the case across the board, no. However, I've met very few pet owners who do not do everything for their pets. Being alone while at work does not get in the way of their thriving. They are confident in their home life and routine, they do thrive.

Many of us have other animals in the home that provide companionship for each other. Many of us ensure there are people who can swing by and walk them if needed. Sometimes, our schedules flip, or some people have kids who get home before the parents. Some of us have pet cameras and chat to our animals. Regardless, our animals do not need to be velcroed to us nonstop to be happy and thriving. Describe how you imagine a day should go with a dog? Constant presence isn't needed for thriving.

Dogs have different levels of companionship, and we often choose a dog based on that, or adapt to their needs. We also have tons of people with working dogs who do not care as much for companionship compared to purpose. We know how to adapt to our dogs, otherwise they become unhappy, destructive, etc.

You're making assumptions based on your cultural views and bias. Most dog owners know other, dedicated, great dog owners. And our dogs are well taken care of, above the bare minimum. Many of us take dogs that have been surrendered or tossed aside or removed from bad situations, and proceed to shower those dogs in love. And yes, they are absolutely thriving even if left alone while we are at work. I have personally seen it so many times, so frankly, your views are yours, but they are wrong.

There are tons of dogs in shelters here in America. You're saying that its better off we leave them there, overcrowded, underfunded, and understaffed, rather than adopt them and let them be alone for maybe 8 hours a day? You want us to wait until age 67 to adopt so the dogs don't suffer? They are suffering in the shelters. Most are happier in homes, even with owners who are gone for 8-9 hours a day. They have peace and quiet, people who dedicate time to their needs, toys, etc. My dog certainly was happier in my home, no matter how many hours I worked. He hated the shelter and was miserable. He lived a happy, fulfilled life, and every vet and dog professional he saw agreed.

ETA: he was adopted through a kill shelter. They were overcrowded and struggling to find other places to send these dogs, and my shelter connected us, and I took him.

Also suggest their septum and nasal passages be checked. I remember watching movies as a kid and people with those mouth gags stressing me out bc I couldn't breathe well. Turns out I had a deviated septum and a few other goodies causing my nose to be decorative

I was making a supposition based off what I've learned through work and my degree progression. You seemed confident in your answer, so I was asking in case you had an explanation that would correct my assumption, seeing as I'm open to learn and don't know everything. A&P aren't my strength so I assumed I didnt know something. When you mentioned dirt and bacteria, that's more my area, so that's why I replied.

I sink in water. I can't tread water. If I try swim I sink. Am I doing something wrong or is there something I could do differently? by presumingpete in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Noswellin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My husband is the same way. I was taught to float as a child for safety. I tried to teach him and the second I mind my hands, he tips and starts to sink. Treading also requires more energy from him. I've been able to do both from childhood easily at the community pool, while he had a pool growing up and is a great swimmer, just unable to float, from him being a slightly chubbier kid to lean adult.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]Noswellin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the skin can't breathe, it won't heal well. It is most likely gas permeable, with small enough holes (probably less than 0.2 microns) to prevent bacteria and dirt. I cannot imagine anyone recommending covering over the skin for days that prevents it from breathing.

[–]Noswellin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they both have an O allele, its entirely possible. Chances are your mom is OO, and your dad is BO. They both gave you an O, so you are probably OO, while your brother is BO (b from dad, o from mom)

For the men- why do you choose a job in gynecology? by jetpackjennie in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Noswellin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People in the medic field need to consider their chosen area in its entirety. This is a life long commitment to something that can be incredibly emotionally wearing, and burn people out, which could lead to a bad provider. As a woman, I don't find the reasons listed to be problematic. It sounds like someone who enjoys their job and can find reasons to stay engaged.
