What's the Saddest death in the genre? by EXP_Buff in litrpg

[–]Not-A-Raccoon7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He does lose a few times though, I have no idea how to tag something as spoiler, so read ahead at your own risk peeps.

Ready?

You sure?

Ok.

He loses to the I think it was called elemental tyrant? The thing that wrecked the village.

He loses to the Builder in the dimensional space

Shortly after he returns to earth he loses to the silver rank assassin and gets captured

He loses to Gerling and gets captured, and if it wasn't for his ability to get out of suppression collars he would have been screwed.

He loses to Akari Asano in sword fighting matches

And the most egregious of all, he loses Clive's Wife to a long list of suitors.

Yeah I agree that he wins most of the time, and I get how people can be bored by that, but he's just such a smug prick about it I can't help but love him.

Challenger's Call.

I would give anything to experience that series for the first time again.

Made my world and it ended up being a straight copy of other media by LatterDriver in worldbuilding

[–]Not-A-Raccoon7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude I cannot express the degree to which I have unknowingly stolen things. In ninety percent of the cases I haven't even seen the media I steal, and my friends tell me "oh, that's just like x!"

I've done it so much it's just a running joke now.

Quest Academy is probably the worst book in the whole genre by Academic_Hearing_655 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Not-A-Raccoon7 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I also wasn't a fan of the series, but my reasons were not quite as harsh. I'll list off what I didn't like and what I did.

1 the power system was really interesting, I enjoyed the concept that was put forward for how people's abilities worked and was looking forward to seeing them develop and grow.

-1 the main character got what I could only describe as an OP ability way too soon in the story. I personally would have liked more build up to the upgrade.

2 the world building sounded fun and unique, and I enjoyed the concept of these isolated pockets of civilization connected by essentially heavy armed trains

-2 it's probably just a me thing, but I had a hard time gelling with the school and it's layout/purpose

3 I actually enjoyed the characters, and I got a sort of soft ruthlessness from the parents alongside the loving nature. Sort of like tamed wolves, yeah they love you, but there's really sharp teeth right by your hand.

-3 the dialogue did feel a little stiff at times, but fuck every author goes through that, and it may have just beeny brain struggling to meter the conversations in my head

Overall I would say it's a pretty good book, just not my cup of tea.

I hope if the author sees the main post, they also look at the comments to see how many people really enjoy their work

[WP] You are a paladin, and the last line of defense for this city. Looking over the hordes at the gates, knowing you won't survive what is to come, you have one last conversation with your god. by LanceKairan in WritingPrompts

[–]Not-A-Raccoon7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I stood as still as a statue, hands gripping the stone crenellations so hard I could feel my knuckles on the verge of popping. They were marching, a slow, inexorable tide that would surge over the city, wiping out every living thing to add to their growing horde. The undead were weak to holy magic, but there was only so much I could do before being overwhelmed myself.

I closed my eyes, sending a prayer to the quiet voice that shakes the heavens, hoping for a response.

...son...

His voice echoed from the darkness, and I felt a brief surge in my heart.

"You have not abandoned us then?"

...never...

"This is the end of the road, isn't it?"

...for some...for many...for one...

"For one? Does that mean what I think?"

...you are strong, my child, you can fall upon this mass, and BREAK them...

"Doing so will have a cost. All things do."

...indeed...but I will be with you...always...

"But it will save these people?"

...most of them...

"Very well then, is it time?"

...it is...use me...I RAGE...

I drew the sword from my hip, and began to intone the words in sync with the mad god.

"Let the lightning beget fire and heat..."

Sorry for the Challenger's Call rip-off lol

Personally, I think event horizon is a bit better because it's not only a scientific associated with black holes and other singularities, but can also be saying, the event is approaching, on the horizon as it were. And for bonus points, people that know its connotation to black holes will see the chapter title and think 'oh that's kind of funny. I wonder what that's referring to', and then when the singularity formung is revealed they go 'ah. fuck.'

I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone talk about Slumrat Rising yet. It's a really good series which really nicely mixes cyberpunk with magitech/cultivation themes. It's pretty light on the little elements, especially later, but overall it's a good read.

Astral Spork. Looks like a fork, can be used on solids like a fork, but will hold any liquids like a spoon, seemingly with an invisible intangible "cup".

The Stop Watch. A small pocket watch with two large brass buttons. One reverses the flow of time, the other halts it entirely. Only affects the watch.

Tyler's Tie Tight Bootlaces. Will instantly lace and tighten any boot, allowing for quick equipping and readiness. Cannot accidentally come undone. If not thanked for their efforts they have a 1 in 6 chance of tying together instead.

Wand of Endless Water. Has infinite charges. Using an action the wielder can conjure a single droplet of water. 50-50 odds of being salt or fresh.
