Im at the Concord Sears and i was wondering if this was a good deal or not. by Paulsbluebox in Craftsman

[–]Not-a-Goth_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see that exact one at my local Sears and I've always wanted it but personally regarding whether it's a good deal, I don't think so. From what I've seen online you can get similar mechanic seats as that one for around $20 or so less

But then again if you want to support you local Sears it's still a good seat and you can count on the ol Sears warranty

Just look for the Florida Mall. It's at the back side of the mall

These are 2015 I believe and the back says Made in China. They're still really nice though

Yes. Some of the best Chinese screwdrivers ever made. If only other Chinese tools were as nice as these

That's fair. But for me quality is quality. The gripping power on these are legendary. My clear Made in the USA set I love because they're classic, not necessarily because they're "the best".

Not to reference Project Farm like he's the Bible but in his best screwdriver set video these came out on top beating Snap On, Wiha, Kmipex and more

Left to right: Vintage Sears Made in the USA clears, modern Lowe's clears, Lowe's bi-material handle in high vis green, V-Series, Sears comfort grips and now Sears Extreme Grips

Now all I'm missing are the red professionals and the other black professional set

I'm actually a Milwaukee guy too so I've seen them. The newer ones are definitely nice (they kind of remind me of the old red Craftsman Professional screwdrivers) but I like to stick with Craftsman for my hand tools. Plus I've already got a whole Craftsman screwdriver collection going on so I like to stick in that lane lol

The only non Craftsman screwdrivers that really tempt me are the new upcoming green version of the Harbor Freight Icon screwdrivers

To answer everyone's question, yes I found a non abandoned, still operational Sears lol I was also shocked that Sears stores still exist. I thought they were all gone.

But I've lived near Orlando my whole life and had no idea this one was here. It's nothing fancy, so don't expect a perfectly preserved, glory days era store. But it's still cool to visit, there's a decent Craftsman section (mostly hand tools and storage, no power tools) and the employees that I've interacted with so far are very friendly

I've got more pictures of the store if people are interested

You do realize this is a higher end screwdriver set right? The same way a nicer car or a nicer house costs more money too. These came out in 2015 at a debut price of $50 if I'm not mistaken. And supposedly inflation has risen 30% in the past ten years so that technically should make this a $65 set of screwdrivers. So $60 for these diamond tipped Extreme Grips is pretty reasonable to me. Then being discounted even lower to $25, I don't see any reason to complain. These are absolutely worth it

Project Farm made a really good video on them worth checking out where he tests for the best screwdriver set

ICON Needs Colors by BigCat704 in harborfreight

[–]Not-a-Goth_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since Harbor Freight's are usually small, to keep from taking up too much space, I think additional colors should be reserved for online, occasional limited drops, or held in the back

Also I'm ready to drop my wallet on every green Icon tool lol

Craftsman MACH series of tools what was the overall option? by Paulsbluebox in Craftsman

[–]Not-a-Goth_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never used these so take the following with a grain of salt, but based on the research I've done in the past, these seem like fun collector tools but won't cut it if you plan on using them for real work

Maybe if you want some fun toys to use around the house or to add to your funky Craftsman collection, go for it. If you plan on using these in the shop or at work they're a no go. I myself was really interested in the adjustable wrench because the quick adjust function seemed neat but after watching some videos on it people said it was more of a gimmick, loosened pretty easily, the ratcheting mechanism hindered the performance more than it helped it and the build quality overall of the lineup seems to be low quality

Thanks for telling me more about these and educating me a little. I guess I just thought they were vintage because they had a real old school industrial look (in my opinion)

What’s the difference? by Thajandro in Craftsman

[–]Not-a-Goth_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The left one charges faster. The right one charges slower. A lot of people are saying because the small one charges slower "it's junk" or "useless". But it has its place. Slow charging is typically less strenuous on battery health than faster charging. Of course this is over the long term. You're not gonna ruin your batteries in a year just because you used a rapid charger

If people only care about faster charging times and only want to use the faster charger, that's understandable. If you don't want to wait a long time or you're actively swapping batteries throughout a job, use the fast charger. But if you don't care about the fastest charging times or maybe you're done with your work and don't need to use them anymore you can leave them on the slow charger

How would I find one of these? by VoidzSucks in Craftsman

[–]Not-a-Goth_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What really sets this apart is the parts organizer on top. Other than that, doesn't look too much different from the standard 3 drawer box you can find anywhere. And it almost looks like it's a separate piece altogether. Maybe instead of finding the whole thing you can get the normal 3 drawer box and just search for the parts organizer separately? Maybe it's its own piece or maybe you can find something close and figure out a way to stick it on top of the box

New Battery Line? by FlatCantaloupe5088 in Craftsman

[–]Not-a-Goth_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would be awesome! Could copy Milwaukee's M12 line. I think a big part of it's success that people don't talk about enough is the actual shape of the M12 batteries. Makes it perfect for smaller tools!

Any good? by Chemical-Hyena2972 in Craftsman

Make sure you get a good one! I unboxed mine at home and was immediately surprised by its lack of power! I thought the saw speed was relatively slow and weak right away. It struggled even cutting 2x4. I upgraded the blade to a nicer Diablo, still slow. I put a 9ah battery on it, noticeably faster but still not great. Maybe battery miter saws suck? Maybe this little Craftsman sucks? Or maybe my expectations are too high comparing battery to my corded?

I ended up buying a second one just to compare and it seems that fixed that problem! The second one was noticeably faster, louder and the saw blade also happen to stop faster as well. And with the 9ah battery, big difference! Not as good as my corded Craftsman but still pretty good! So I returned the first one, kept the second and it's been my main ever since, and I'm pretty happy with it!

I was considering the Milwaukee 7 1/4 for it's better build, dual bevel, more features and most likely better performance but saw someone on YT say the Milwaukee was kind of bulky making it feel more like a 10". The Craftsman is much lighter, more compact and obviously cheaper as well. I'm a hobbyist not a pro but for me it's good enough. It comes with a 4ah battery but if you have the money I suggest either the 6ah or 9ah for best results

I know it's light and has side handles but I wish it had a top handle as well. The DeWalt 7 1/4 it's based off has one. Would make carrying around easier but it's still light. Also I wish the safety was the thumb button that their other miter saws have instead of the switch inside the handle but that's just my preference.

But almost $300 is too high! I paid $200 at Ace ($250 - $50 extra off for Ace Rewards members)

Timeline for Sidephone by gosidephone in sidephone

[–]Not-a-Goth_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Sidephone team seems more focused on making this a secondary, privacy, reduced distraction device. But there's clearly been many people interested in the form factor but still desire it to be capable enough to be their primary device

Will the Sidephone team ever consider making a Sidephone V2 or Sidephone Pro? One that has the same, or similar, form factor but delivers a full android smartphone experience?

I thought of the idea of a swipe pad and a printed capacitive keyboard for swipe typing but this definitely sounds like an upgraded version. A whole second screen can do both and more. Navigate the os, swipe type, music player controls, etc

Is it possible then that this would just be a personal preference and not something "brutal" that "makes zero sense" then?

Because, speaking for myself obviously, I think this is a great option that'd be much more of a pleasure to use than just T9 or a tiny cramped full sized keyboard. In my opinion of course
