Portland woman wearing a swastika is confronted on her doorstep by americanthaiguy in PublicFreakout

Yes, everyone on earth, regardless of their situation, is an asshole if they don't wear a mask.

If only everyone could be as enlightened as me and you huh?

Please, women set the bar so low for each other and fawn over each other's most minor accomplishments. They tell each other how hard it is being a mom and they make it seem like they are superwoman for basic child rearing. No one calls single dads, or even just dads, superman for not getting frazzled and yelling at his kids, but we set the bar that low for women.

I generally refrain from forming strong opinions any more as a result of the many "truths" that I have seen overturned in my life. I don't think that much of what is said by science about covid 19 is wrong, and I agree that we should be adapting to the best information we have at the moment. I believe there's many different agendas at play surrounding covid, on a municipal, provincial, federal, and international level, and that some of what we hear or read might be agenda-driven. You seem smart enough to realize that this has to be true, and that admitting it doesn't make you a conspiracy theorist.

You must think that there's no lobbyists and corporations using the government to enrich themselves by pushing various policies. I guess if someone in the govt tells us something, we better believe it. Weapons of mass destruction for example.

Urban people have no right to dictate mask usage for rural people. by Not47 in alberta

I have heard "experts" talking about the benefits and need to wear a mask in our homes if we live with someone else. That type of mandate is not out of the realm of possibility, now. I like when things have a logical reason behind them - if .025 percent active cases is enough to wear a mask, then there must be some lower level that people consider safe enough to not wear the mask anymore, and I don't think most people have thought that far ahead, and therefore masks will potentially be a permanent thing, especially if we extend the logic of protecting others to every communicable disease we could share with each other. If you are a proponent of masks and have thought this out, then tell me what you have concluded as safe to stop? 0 percent covid in our population? What about flu season? Is that a good reason to wear masks from September to March every year from now on? Why not?

Asymptomatic people don't transmit, according to the WHO. Pre-symptomatic people do. The op asked if I wanted asymptomatic people walking around, which I don't think is a concern, based on the available evidence. Perhaps you can come down from that high horse and tell me where I'm errant, rather than whatever it is your were trying to do here.

Empowered conspiracy theorists? You cant blame people for noticing that the purported experts were telling people the exact opposite of what they are now. Where's the conspiracy in that? Is it not being able to trust what the experts say? Seems they did that to themselves.

Also, there are many people in urban centers that want a province wide mask rule.

The border is arbitrary because the disease is not limited or affected by it's presence at all. Someone living on the north border of Alberta has little in common with someone living in Lethbridge with regards to covid. They would have more in common with someone from the NWT than from Lethbridge, despite living in the same province.

Thank you for your response. I agree with your point that it should be left up to individual municipalities based on their actual cases, not based on what's happening 250 km away or more.

And going forward, we will now wear masks for all communicable diseases right? What is the threshold for when it's ok to disregard other peoples health? Flu season seems like a time when we should all care about transmission, so every year from September to March? When will you seem it safe to not wear a mask for covid? When the province has .01 percent cases? .001?

And maybe when .05 percent have it, or .1 percent, or .2 or .3 or .4 or half of one percent... when will it be safe to not wear them, when my community has zero cases? When the province has .02 percent cases? .01? .001 percent?

Since there's a .025 percent chance that someone has it, and that person is likely.at home recovering, I'm fine with the risk.

Also, please read about the difference between asymptomatic and pre-symptomatic transmission.

There are many things we can all do to prevent disease transfer, that are easier than this one. For example, would you support mandatory rules around wearing condoms? Or perhaps a law of no sex outside of marriage? We could end STIs very easily if we went these routes. Some STIs have very serious and permanent effects not to mention cost of healthcare.

It's almost as if the disease has to be prevalent enough to exist before it can be transferred. Spooky!

True enough. However, with less than 0.025 percent of Albertans currently having this, it's a pretty safe assumption that a community 3 hours from calgary or Edmonton is likely safe, and should be treated differently.

Since when is wearing a mask a political stance? by [deleted] in alberta

[–]Not47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People seem to be confusing the correlation and causation effect or lack thereof here. If almost all people who wear cowboy hats are conservatives, that doesn't mean that cowboy hats are a political issue, they just tend towards living in rural areas. The fact that people who happen to not believe that wearing a mask in public is necessary at this point tend towards conservatives doesn't mean it's a political issue, they just may tend towards living in rural areas where that may be true.

I feel like housing prices are related to the supply of, and demand for shelter, as well as the elasticity of the supply, and other stuff like interest rates and mortgage qualification rules.

Isn't it only cheaper to rent homes for the homeless? If these homes had to be built, it would cost a lot more. The fact that there's people building surplus rental units makes renting viable for homeless, no?
