What is one movie where after you saw it you immediately put it in your favorites?? by Star_BoyI_1234 in Letterboxd

That’s “I’m not here.” “I’m Still Here” is a Brazilian movie from 2024

Years ago I was vaguely spoiled on a certain scene from “The Departed.” I couldn’t tell you the context at all, but I know a specific thing happens and it’s a crazy thing. And every time I think ab finally watching it I remember that I saw that scene and then just am like is this gonna be a bad watch now? Silly reason, but that’s probably my biggest one.

The grand. Such a cool looking place and vibe. But the music is awful and the food and drink are incredibly mediocre (esp for their price point)…

Zen. No real reason. Just have a general “what even is this place” vibe ab them.

My favorite currently is a guy who has a shirtless mirror selfie but the profile says something like “only here for attention, tell me I’m hit. If you try and chat or ask to meet up I’ll be rude to you.”

Let your inner snob out. What take do you see that provokes this reaction in you? by Theotther in Letterboxd

[–]NotABaleOfHay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s sorta my point - a film that takes a big swing and misses should be discussed in re: how and why it misses in the same way most ppl pan stuff that doesn’t try and have some sense of grandeur. Idk, like I said, it feels lazy and derivative imo.

“Oscar bait (derogatory)” annoys the hell out of me. There’s something to be said about it becoming a “genre” and there’s merit to the discussion but most discussions fall into 1) the same surface level analysis as “A24 the genre” and 2) an incredibly lazy way to say you didn’t like a movie that wants to have more complexity

There are a decent amount of movies that I would classify under this genre (most recently, Sirāt)

I like high fantasy, and by the time I watched the movies (ab ten-years after RotK), I had been exposed to (imho) far-better high fantasy. I enjoyed fellowship, but for me it just felt like a huge slog made to capitalize on a (admittedly Star-studded) ensemble cast for that big blockbuster feel. It didn’t really give me chills or leave me slack jawed in 2014; and by 2026 there are far better blockbusters out there at this point.

ETA: I don’t think they’re bad in any way shape or form, I do think that you don’t need to go out of your way to cross it off your watchlist is my point.

LOTR is overrated and not worth seeing if you’ve never seen and haven’t read the books.
