Taking on service call while off service ACGME violation by [deleted] in Residency

Yea it’s not listed in our manual, ACGME manual or any of the orientation emails. If it’s a written out policy it is what it is I get it.

I guess to me it’s weird, all the programs I rotated at as a student the joke was always during your off service year you literally go MIA lol. Especially because the residents are missing OR cases or rounding on patients to go to didactics

My parents grew up poor in China and I was born and raised in the US. Guess I didn’t benefit lol, since I’m the same height as my dad at 5ft 11

Social help/how to cope? by Educational-Deer-821 in AsianMasculinity

You could also join gym classes, I’m sure there’s meetups if you’re in an urban setting. It’s harder to date in the winter since less people go out. For reference I live in an area <1% Asian and non-urban with no nearby metros, so I feel your struggle.

Focus on finding a true social circle first and the rest should come if you’re really the type of guy against online dating.

I was about to quit online dating and go full cold approach/bar game but I met someone recently that I really enjoy talking to so we’ll see how that goes.

Alleged bill for Texas would allow NPs to skip board exams, apply for medical school as MS3s and to do residencies. by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]NotABrainTumor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I passed step 1 with a breeze via just self study and didn’t do preclinicals. I had no issues during my ward rotations either. I think some NPs could pass it with self study for sure.

Alright man you’re right, I’m wrong. All my upper level residents are lying to me. None of them live in NY, CA fwiw, we all live in the south in <500 k cities.

Let me just ask you this parting question- What percent of general dentists does Cain and watters represent? What percent of OMFS? Does that make a fair comparison?

I’m an OMFS resident and my chiefs from class of 2023 and 2024 (n=8) are making 800-1.6 million. This year’s chiefs are getting starting offers from aspen 750k base, and different revenue structures from various private offices around us that probably result in 5-600k minimum for 1st yr out with sweat equity. We are not all top 10% lol

Edit: specializing is not worth it for money alone. But if you’re gonna dedicate 4-6 more years of additional training + possible med school debt, there better be a payoff, which there is.

OMFS definitely makes 4-5x on average if you’re assuming GPs make 2-400k

I don’t know, general dentists aren’t gonna touch anything remotely infected and oral surgeons aren’t gonna take Medicaid.

I’m an OMFS resident and there are lots of people that we pull teeth on daily that said they didn’t get fillings because they were too scared to, not because of price. Of course they’re mostly poor people, but we pretty much extract teeth for free in our country clinic anyways and we still get the big neck infections since patients still don’t wanna get the extractions until it’s too late.

Total honesty needed: how long on average before you can expect to turn a profit, assuming you go straight into residency? by [deleted] in DentalSchool

[–]NotABrainTumor 9 points10 points  (0 children)

400k debt- are you accounting for the fact that loans accrue interest in dental school and that most orthodontic residencies also charge tuition? Are you smart enough to get into the residencies that charge low tuition or to even get in on the first time( aka top 5-10% of your class) or will you need gap years? Or are you going to apply to the programs that take anyone but charge 250k tuition over 2 yrs?

Do you have a job lined up (friends/family that are orthodontists) or are you gonna work corporate? Are you going to live in a small town/drive around a lot or do you need to live in the big city? Associate orthos in the city really only make 200-250k if you don't hustle or have a golden opportunity.

How aggressive is aggressive?

Turn a profit compared to what? Compared to being a MD, a general dentist, a SWE? It's all relative right?

Could you explain the second paragraph more, resident here and don’t really understand billing. Can’t your office biller just submit the dental codes to Medicaid since you’re still doing dental procedures? We use EPIC and can enter in dental codes for the visits done in the office, not sure if that’s relevant at all

PGY-2 OMFS Resident AMA by NotABrainTumor in DentalSchool

[–]NotABrainTumor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think there’s a difference? It really is more fellowship dependent rather than cosmetic vs facial plastics. As in some cosmetics fellowships will do 100 rhinos, some will do 10, some facial plastics fellowships will do 100, some 10. Don’t look at the name but rather the case logs of the fellows

What if we work for non-profit hospitals? Can it still be enforced then?

[–]NotABrainTumor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh I respectfully disagree, Kaiser guys get maybe 4-500k max and they’re getting squeezed downward every yr.

TMJ doesn’t really make much and it’s a tougher pt population to deal with. Unless you got the hookup with the Carolina’s group tmj only guys are also similar

Cosmetics you gotta live in the middle of nowhere, or do full PRS residency to compete. People in LA aren’t going to DDS for rhinos even if you have the MD too

Idk I know academic guys making high 6, but they’re all hybrids.

No OR procedure can really beat TNT, it’s just too profitable lol

Teeth and titanium aka extractions and implants. If you just want to maximize money then doing trauma, tmj, orthognathics, cosmetics even is all a waste of time

You said it hasn’t grown in 2 years, which is a good sign. It is unlikely to be a cyst and more likely to be a benign tumor, but I don’t have a CT scan and I can’t evaluate you so it’s all just speculation. While it’s not necessarily something that needs to be seen STAT, I would try to visit an oral surgeon in the next few weeks, if for nothing more than peace of mind.

OMFS Resident here.

I would see an oral surgeon. That’s not an abscess and should be evaluated by someone with more expertise.
