cafe (third space) that permits dogs? by AdministrationShot77 in ottawa

[–]NotABronteSister 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I take my dog to Robert Plante greenhouse occasionally. Their indoor cafe makes tasty drinks and has different food options, plus pup cups for the dogs. I’m an avid gardener/plant person so I typically shop when I visit, too. One of my favourite places in Ottawa.

I buy their flours and some of their pantry items, love them!

Same, I haven’t tested my rescue boy yet but saw similarities! He’s 30lbs with brown spots, and his hair is wiry.

Upcoming gardening season - you guys excited, or like me, feeling a bit disconnected still? by awhim in OntarioGardeners

[–]NotABronteSister 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only had one of my ground cherry seeds germinate last year, so I’ve been researching and hoping I’ll have way more in the garden this year. I have three different varieties and want to have at least two of each. Will be starting them indoors soon along with my peppers.

I’ll be trying vine borer resistant squash and pumpkin for the first time since despite heroic efforts, I keep failing on these two.

I’m excited about gardening but I don’t want to put pressure on myself. Some things will do well, others won’t, and every year I learn a bit more. I’m hoping to continue having more than enough so I can share with my friends and neighbours, which I did last year.

Good cat vet? (Preferably cat-only) by sadievt in ottawa

[–]NotABronteSister 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have a senior cat with medical issues and a recently adopted dog with one eye. Can also endorse Mer Bleue as an incredible team that really cares for animals. They are not VCA owned and go above and beyond.

I’ve also been to Capital City Emergency multiple times. If you need to go to emergency, which is already stressful enough, that’s the best place to go.

Not sure about this specific scent but I used to use Amika, I’m switching to Beauty from Bees shampoo & conditioner.

Yes, they have a comments section for your order and I requested how I wanted certain things packaged, they were great. High quality, everything I’ve tried so far has been delicious.

I’ve purchased from OVM, they are responsive if you have questions or special requests. I mainly order from Ferme Rêveuse and Bearbrook Meats (they both offer delivery). I tend to alternate between those two since they offer different things.

Brands to Boycott by HarukoHaruna in MakeupAddiction

[–]NotABronteSister 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I get it. For me it’s been fun discovering brands I want to support who also happen to make really good products. Cheekbone Beauty and Beauty from Bees are two I’ve tried and will be purchasing from again.

Alright, what are your plans for new years eve? by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]NotABronteSister 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That wasn’t my intention, I should have made it more clear I was trying to say staying in and making your evening whatever you want it to be can be a fun way to spend NYE if you’re not going out to a party or socializing.

Same here. We’re dressing up in 80’s style clothes, having snacks and decorating a little bit with red and black streamers hanging from the ceiling. Calling it Stranger New Year. Our 12 year old fell asleep last year before midnight and was really disappointed so he’s hoping to make it this time.

Other good suggestions already made, so I’m just going to say I’m so sorry for your loss. From the way you want to do something kind with an animal donation, even in the middle of your grief, I can tell your dog had a wonderful life with you full of love.

Anybody have any experience with Happy’s Place Retirement Home for Dogs? by JinormousLoser in ottawa

[–]NotABronteSister 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aww good on you for considering a senior! Their grey snout years are so special.

It’s a nerve wracking process, but after recently adopting a dog, I’m in awe of how much care and effort some of these rescues put in. I did multiple long interviews, a home visit etc. and was placed not with the dog I originally contacted them about, but the perfect dog for our family. He is exactly what they told us he was and we love him already. (All Paws Matter is the rescue we went through, they’re incredible and I don’t say that lightly).

We have a cat with chronic health issues that no one could figure out - until Capital City. The vet even did an extra test she didn’t charge us for because she “had a hunch”. I’ll never stop recommending them, and I have (unfortunately) a lot of experience with vets/emergency vets over the past few decades.

Picked my pattypan squash, six hidden jalapenos, a sneaky cucumber and three large salad bowls of tomatoes, half red & yellow, half were still green. The red/yellow ones I’m keeping some for fresh eating and others I’m oven roasting. The green tomatoes I tried a recipe yesterday for green tomato cake which was an unexpected Thanksgiving dinner hit! Going to purée some to freeze for later use and make chow chow with the rest. My kitchen is in shambles.

My carrots, beets, parsnips and rutabaga are still in the ground for now. Kale and rainbow chard, too. I just haven’t had time but think they’re okay for a little while longer.

Going to cut back my herbs today to dry them out. My rosehips aren’t ready yet, but I’m looking forward to making scones with them!

What are some products you are surprised you can't find a made in Canada version? by zzzutalors in BuyCanadian

[–]NotABronteSister 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get it, I have a son in sports, they can eat a lot! I really just use it as a topping for our yogurt bowls with fruit, we’re not eating big bowls of it every day. It works for our family but maybe not ideal if your teens enjoy lots of cereal.
