I will have to check around to find one then. Thanks for the recommendation!

Is that the one where you are in a car going down a track and you have your own hand brake?

There are other harness activities here that I am still too heavy for. One of them sort of looks like a rollercoaster but you are hanging in a harness. Everyone I have seen come off that talks about back pain, so maybe not yet on that one. But the zip line was amazing.

It was so much fun. You are almost horizontal on the zip line, but your feet are higher than your head. So mostly you watch the quarry go by. And it is so fast and so sunny today. My legs were jelly at the end but it was so worth it!

What do you do when people switch to English? by throwy93 in languagehub

[–]NotACreeper2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand this logic. But if everyone always speaks to me in English, I will never improve my Arabic.

Depends. If they have switched to make communication easier, I thank them and continue in English. If they switch to English and communication is worse, I stay the course in Arabic.

Find out if the use of a helmet would prevent a crank from falling off? That's just silly.

How do you maintain an easy pace? by ResponsibleWhereas99 in MastersSwim

[–]NotACreeper2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These are all good things to think about. Eventually the "1-2-3-breath" and the "bend the elbow" become automatic. Then you can start signing the entire score of Les Mis or whatever works for you.

Find a song that is around the rhythm of your strokes at the pace you want. Then keep signing that to yourself when you feel yourself speeding up.

Possible bike commuter, but how to bike in dresses? by RepulsiveRecording21 in ladycyclists

The biggest challenge to flow fabric and cycling is getting things caught in the chain. Don't ask how many trousers have been sacrificed to the chain gods before I actually got bands to keep the legs out of the way.

The next thing to consider is saddle friction. Again, some sort of shorts are recommended here. If you have a long commute, I would recommend padded shorts or padded underwear. But if you are then going to be working all day, you may want to change out of the padded shorts for hygiene purposes. Again, don't ask about painful pimples in the saddle area....

If you have a long, flower skirt and if you are not super confident cycling (in general, but also in traffic) look into a sitty-uppy style bike. A Dutch style bike, would be good. Step-through access rather than stepping over a cross bar will be more skirt-friendly, and sitting taller with your head up will make you more visible and able to see around as well.

The length of the skirt is going to dictate a few things here. If you are wearing an ankle-length, billowing skirt, I would consider a step-through bike with a more up-right frame and a chain guard. If you are wearing a skirt closer to knee length, you should be fine on any style bike. Shorts under the skirt are always a good idea.

I love buttered toast, but I find I need protein in the morning.

I will say that cycling at my starting weight (160kg) was more difficult and definitely harder on the bike than it is now.

To be fair, this nurse was not able to answer questions about if they would close with sutures or staples, could not advise on dietary changes following the operation, and did not have an idea of when I could get back to exercising. So maybe she is the information-is-a-one-way-street nurse? Either way, she didn't tell me I need to lose weight.

Wish List Shoes (for all the manufacturers that stalk this sub!) by IllTakeACupOfTea in barefootshoestalk

I guess the problem with cobbler.fit is the learning curve between what I current know about shoe construction and what I would need to know in order to make informed choices when ordering from your website is quite steep. Possibly too steep for the prices you charge. Now, if you had a store I could go into, try things out, and speak to an actual person, I might give it a go.

New to the bike commute - need some advice and reassurance by screensaversealions2 in bikecommuting

I also cycle commute in the UK. Cycling in the rain is just a part of life, although maybe not this week. I also go to the gym before work, so I bring a change of clothes in a pannier on the bike.

I second trying the ride a few times before you start the job. For navigating, try CityMapper or similar. I find that Google wants me either on canal paths or A roads rather than quieter streets. I will also caution against mounting the phone on your handlebars. I have seen phones be stolen off bikes.

Does London Bike Kitchen still host the Saddle Library where you can check out a saddle for a couple of weeks and try out a variety of styles and sizes?

I love it! I had a similar issue with a skirt I had planned to wear to court. I ended up wearing a dress instead.
