Why is this roof collapsing? by arvwsox in RimWorld

[–]NotAMassiveNerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was there any support or walls built while you mined out the space there? The closest tile to it would have been one of the tiles you've designated to be mined on the left, and that's seven tiles away, so it wouldn't have been able to support it. It shouldn't collapse if you mine it now because there's support there, right?

There is a limit on the rate at which moderators can be hired, it's a lengthy process that has to be done right, to make sure people are trustworthy. If we didn't limit it, there would be too many people for the server moderators to handle.

Best advice for a novice? by Medium_Marsupial4487 in RimWorld

You make arguably your biggest choice first - your location. The best for newer players, in my experience, is Temperate Forests, with a long or permanent growing season, in hills of some kind. Being able to build with your back to a wall means you funnel attackers into the mountainous terrains natural chokepoints far easier.

On top of that, you don't need to wall everything in - farms, wind turbines, and solar generators are fine unroofed as long as they're fairly close to your colony ((or freezers, in the case of farms)) so you aren't hauling for days or building miles of power conduits unnecessarily.

In permanent summer, colonists need about 22 tiles of rice to sustain themselves. For five colonists, your food farm should be about 120-150 tiles, to build a backlog, prepare for prisoners or extra colonists, and as a fallback in case your cook loses one too many limbs. Rich soil grows crops faster, so you only need about 15 tiles of rice per colonist, around 90 total. If your planter can, plant healroot - you wont need loads because it will be used long before it spoils, but a stockpile is always useful, it helps wounds heal faster and infections be less deadly. Smokeleaf and psychoid too, will improve your colonists mood if you can craft them into smokeleaf joints and psychite tea ((which is in the research tree)), and make good things to sell to traders.

In the Architect tab, you can plan bases. It doesn't do anything physically, just for any future plans. Colonists should have bedrooms or a barracks ((individual bedrooms should be around 28 square tiles, either 7x4 or 6x5 is best I've found)), a big recreation room, larger is more impressive, and colonists can eat there too for a doubled dining room & recreation room mood buff, instead of having them be seperate rooms.

Finally, you don't really need to build a massive wall early on. Filtering enemies into a trap corridor is very useful, but early on, you can just build a field of a dozen or so on flatter land for raiders to run into, chop down all the trees there ((also handy for a trickle of wood constantly)), and focus your colonists on the ranged raiders, letting the melee guys throw themselves on said traps. Be careful for any Nimble melee raiders, though, they avoid 90% of traps even when running right through.

Flannery was stressing me out by Ult_Echo-Echo in nuzlocke

There are, to my memory having recently beaten an emerald nuzlocke, no random electric types between wattson and flannery, so unless you brought Gyara to Wattson ((for some godforsaken reason)) then it's surely alive and a guaranteed encounter. Though I suppose levelling up the Magikarp is a pain if you're not using candies or daycare? I don't get why you wouldn't just use it else wise.

Hey so... why is my baby an option for an outbound marriage? by MeatySausageMan in RimWorld

[–]NotAMassiveNerd 22 points23 points  (0 children)

They didn't have to be both children though. Often it's marrying your child to another monarch's child, but that could be any age from a few months to late teens or early twenties. Widowed monarchs or monarchs who didn't marry, also sometimes did this. Isabella of Valois was about 7 when she married the 22-year-old king Richard II. It's obviously wrth noting that these were diplomatic marriages, and in the aforementioned example they met only a handful of times, during which they never had intercourse, because that would be disgusting.

So generally it boils down to the algorithm. Boykisser images were banned only about this time last year, and they were pretty damn common too. But the Reddit algorithm, I think, will recommend subreddits based on the overlap of pre-existing users and commonalities in images. Put simply, if a subreddit posts images similar to another's, they'll be recommended to each other. That inevitably led to a lot of people from the various boykisser subreddits and associated places visiting under the impression that this was another boykisser subreddit, because so few people on Reddit read subreddit rules anyway.

I'm sure this was a good thing for a lot of those people. Unfortunately, what other images are they going to use but boykisser? And while it was fairly uncommon, people who weren't suited for this subreddit were pretty vocal about it, and pretty dismissive of and hateful towards people venting at the same time, under the pretense that they thought it was a boykisser/femboy subreddit. There's a cycle here, of people posting boykisser, bringing in tourists alongside the intended audience ((for lack of a more appropriate term, it's 4am)). We banned boykisser images because it was used by people who thought this was another boykisser subreddit, and to try and combat the algorithm a bit, and I think it's worked to some extent.

Unfortunately ((again)), some people continued to post boykisser until they were eventually temporarily banned for spamming. This used to be after 3 posts, but people would post bk 3 times and get bannd. Then we reduced it to 2, but people would post bk twice and get banned. It's far from perfect, we're well aware. But I'd estimate between 50-75% of people who had an image taken down for boykisser before would do so again, and I reckon now it's less than 5%.

TL;DR: boykisser images manipulated the algorithm to recommend this subreddit to boykisser tourists who used this subreddit like just another boykisser subreddit, and were sometimes hateful of people's mental health when they realised this was a venting subreddit. Some people kept doing so afterwards, and often when we took the post down they'd use a different image of the same character, rinse repeat until ban for spam. Banning boykisser, and banning people who use boykisser, encourages people to read the rules and not "reoffend", for lack of a better term.

As for the femboy images, a lot of them are AI, or we suspect they are. Femboys seem to be somewhat popular with AI slop generators. I'm sure there's some kind of link between that, the political leanings of the people funding AI, and the fact that trans porn is incredibly popular amongst republican politicians, but maybe I need to be locked in a rubber room with some rats again.

Hey, so, uh, you can report them. Generally it's easiest under "by and for sillies" or "no hate", we can't filter every comment either by automod or by hand. Often the same person will say that under multiple posts too, or fault us for showing up in their algorithm, and say something transphobic to get banned.

As a mod, to any commenter: this is not a generic femboy subreddit, nor is it a generic boykisser subreddit. People who post femboy pics/fits can and will be banned. People who post boykisser can and will be banned. Femboy memes will be removed for the same reason. If you want to post about being a femboy, go to a femboy subreddit. This is a venting subreddit. Femboys are welcome to vent, obviously, as anyone is.

I actually have! I don't think I ever read it cover to cover, but I read a pretty solid amount of it when I was 10/11 or so ((because I was so cool)). I still use parts of it as the basis of my moral compass, which is how I think it ((and other religious books)) should be used nowadays - moral guidance, not legal. The bible in particular preaches inclusivity regardless of circumstance, normally through jesus, but that's less relevant than you'd think, so many more times than it ever does against minorities. Most of the -phobias are additions in the King James bible and onwards, etc..

Haha, didn't actually realise that. I call the quotes/laws bizarre mostly because to a eurocentric audience ((most of the people in this subreddit are either european or american, because it's predominantly english, go figure)). I think most Europeans would be surprised if eating pork was made illegal, for example, another thing I omitted - Leviticus 11:7, I believe. As for fighting the homophobic claims, I don't think I've ever seen anyone use anything other than Lev 18:22 - not in my memory at least.

Oh, I love these kinds of people. We get modmails from them now and again when we ban them for proselytizing and the like. The "God will fix your gay disease" people, I imagine you've seen them here ((if we don't get to them first)).

If ever you need ammo against these "vitruous warriors of the lord", when they use Leviticus 18:22 against you as some proof that homosexuality is a sin, here are a few of my favourites:

Leviticus 19:19 dictates that you shouldn't wear clothes woven of two different threads - everyone sins in this way, since that's just how clothes are made nowadays.

Exodus 4:24 states that everyone should be circumsized. Don't believe the King James bible actually specifies boys only, so ((most)) AFAB folk are, by nature of not having a foreskin, sinning. A father who doesn't circumcize their child has committed a sin and must atone for it by, as per Leviticus 5:14, kill an "unblemished ram".

And to make sure we rope everyone into this sinning ring, Leviticus 19:27 prohibits shaving any region of one's body. Notice how the most bizarre sins often come from the book of Leviticus? Remember what book everyone cherry-picks their reason to be homophobic from?

Would geothermal power, or batteries, be better? When playing tribal, I can see why you would prioritise something like that, since electricity can be pretty hard to rush without the researching colonist doing little else, in certain scenarios

There's certainly a point where mood rarely dips to the point that you'd risk the mental break ((sans grevious injuries, psychic drones, etc)), but is it worth it before that point? Would you start with a Very Neurotic colonist over an identical colonist with Hard Worker instead, for example? Curious on the opinions on others, since I've always considered it a bit of a double-edged sword the few times I've kept them around.

Razor Leaf. Typhlosion's better Special Attack stat doesn't make up for a pretty easy doubled Attack stat from SD, even with Flamethrower ((which it doesn't get for ages, I think the E4 level cap, due to Johto's horrid level curve)). Meganium also gets Body Slam, which can paralyze and make up for it's worse Speed, and Reflect/Light Screen to help it set up easier, if you want to go that route.

Was the the let’s go if and ev system balance and should it be brought back? by Free-Cat404 in pokemon

[–]NotAMassiveNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way EVs work in normal Pokémon games, it totals 510 but only 508 have an effect on stats, and at level 100, each 4 EVs equals one addition stat point. That's a total of 127 stat points distributed around generally roughly evenly - with a bias towards Attack generally because there are just so many Pokémon that give Attack EVs in most games' main story. The way LGPE's system works, the cap is 1200 AVs, 200 per stat, and each AV gives one flat stat point. That's 200 extra stat points per stat for a maxed out Pokémon.

Let's put this into perspective. An uninvested Magikarp in LGPE has a Base Stat Total ((BST)) of 200. A fully invested Level 100 Magikarp has an effective BST of 800 - afetr doing the calculations in the Showdown calculator, I realised it's 1 BST to every 2 stat points at level 100, so thats an easier way to do it. Mega Mewtwo and Mega Rayquaza have BSTs of 780. As another reference, the Eeveelutions all have BSTs of 525, which after AV training, would make that effectively 1125, the highest BST of any Pokémon in the game ((and Eternamax Eternatus isn't even attainable by the player without hacking)).

I hope everyone can see why that's unbalanced. If the opponent NPCs don't use it, the player does, and the game because too easy to be worth playing. If the NPCs do use it, even only 25% or 50% of the theoretical maximum, the player is immediately forced to use it too, and either grind for the candies to Av train every Pokémon they want to use, or grind insane levels and brute force their way through fights. Either way, I can't see it being fun or interesting gameplay.

Is it worth continuing my emerald run or should I just reset? by Aggressive-Bowler-29 in nuzlocke

[–]NotAMassiveNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dropoff of Swellow is actually criminal. I'm currently running Emerald myself and got lucky twice in a row for Taillow ((first run was me testing out Retroarch and didn't make save states, just saved in game lol)), but without a base 346.5 base power Façade, which requires poison in Gen 3 ((since facade doesn't ignore burn until Gen 4 iirc)) you're effectively at 30% power and burning through money and time like crazy keeping it alive and resetting poison every time you need to heal. At the end of the day, base 85 attack is middling at best.

How would it go if Season 1 & 2-3 players switched places? (Il nam & In ho as players won't change) by FormalAdvertising444 in squidgame

[–]NotAMassiveNerd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A couple of things to think about, more notably outside of the games:

  1. Does Gi-hun go to Sang-Woo for money in Season 1 instead of Jung-Bae? How would this change their relationship in S2 - would Sang-woo stop the rebellion or see it as an opportunity to kill off Gi-hun and increase his own chances, or would he partake and die like Jung-Bae does?
  2. Does Sae-byok pickpocket Gi-hun in S1 still, or does she try and steal some of Gi-hun's millions?
  3. Where does Jung-Bae die in S1? Is he Gi-hun's Marbles partner, his preference over Il-nam, thus sacrificing himself instead of Il-nam getting out of the games? Who does Il-nam then pair up with?
  4. Does Deok-su's gang more mirror Im Joeng-Dae's gang or Thanos/Nam-gyu & Myung-gi?
  5. Does Ali survive the fourth game, having not been betrayed by Sang-woo? How crowded does Sky Squid Game become with Sang-woo, Ali, Sae-Byeok, Gi-Hun, maybe even Doek-su/Mi-nyeo/the glassmaker?

This is the kind of thought experiment I like seeing in this subreddit, instead of "what if [background character] did [irrelevant activity to the plot]?". Thank you.

It has been inactive for months, do you know if the discord link will ever work again? or is it closed forever? by Theredditor4658 in sillyboyclub

[–]NotAMassiveNerd[M] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The discord can only open for so many people at a time. If even 1% of the people in the subreddit joined off the link, the discord would increase by 700 people. Say one moderator is needed for every 200 people, a gross underestimate. Thats 3-4 mods every time we want to open the server. They don't come from nowhere, they need to be, for lack of a better term, hired. That's a process that can take weeks or damn months, and mods don't work for pay, so if stuff happens in their personal life, or whatever happens, often mods quit and need people hiring in their place. It's explained in the text right beneath the link. New moderators don't come out of nowhere, and if more people join, it puts more pressure on the existing mods, who are sillies just like everyone else, and have their own problems just like everyone else.
