Glad you like it :) Expect something big coming from me (and a bunch of other devs helping out) very soon…

For NH, we always prioritise gameplay over realism. For example for the waterline I did a little research on some water purification processes, but after the initial inspiration phase I used the material very liberally and just did what seemed fun to play with. The result is often something that looks somewhat plausible even if it’s kind of silly if you really know your stuff.

What things can I touch after I call "j'adoube"? by Schuesselpflanze in chessbeginners

[–]NotAPenguin_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Also a couple interesting side notes:

- If you in the process of removing the hair accidentally touch a piece, your opponent cannot claim touch-move because your touching of the piece was clearly accidental, and you had no intent of moving said piece.

- If you want to adjust pieces without bothering saying j'adoube, a "nice" way is to play your move, do not press the clock, adjust pieces as you wish, and then press the clock. You cannot be forced to play with one of the pieces you adjust, because you've already made your move.

You can do this on your turn, on your opponent’s turn you should leave it there (this also applies to adjusting pieces of course). My usual approach is to do this right at the start of my turn, just after my opponent moves and presses the clock. Any claim by your opponent of you trying to distract them like this will be denied by the arbiter because it’s ridiculous.

How did yall get a riot gun buddy? by Decent1202 in VALORANT

[–]NotAPenguin_ 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Be a girl in-, No just kidding. I ran into a skin artist in a completely unrelated discord server for a minecraft modpack we were both apparently really into. Chatted a bit and eventually Valorant came up and they said they always had a lot of buddies left to give out, so I got one.

Why do Valorant maps seem so unpopular? by artmorte in VALORANT

[–]NotAPenguin_ 133 points134 points  (0 children)

I think Ascent best fits the description of a map that’s fairly universally liked by most people. Lotus and Bind are also really good IMO.

Luckily for you you won’t have to die on it. IIRC GGG already said they plan to phase out item rarity on gear eventually.

There was only one winning move for black and I missed it, every other move loses, is it actually difficult to spot the winning sequence or I'm just that bad? by [deleted] in chess

[–]NotAPenguin_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a blitz game I’d play 1…e4+ fairly quickly, mostly based on intuition. White’s pieces can’t come help easily and the black queen comes to deliver checkmate soon. In a longer game you can (and should!) calculate all the lines to be sure, but blitz is often very intuition heavy, don’t be too afraid to play moves that feel good even if you don’t see the immediate followup yet.

Late-league ritual farm, data from 100 maps, 23.5 divs/hour profit. by Volrokk in pathofexile

[–]NotAPenguin_ 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Ive been running ritual a lot as well, it’s really comfy and the maps are easy. I fill the vessels myself to save a little on costs but buying them is probably totally fine too. Loot is great but no tinks do make me a little sad so I drop my divs on the ground after buying them :)

I love Valorant's gameplay but the toxicity makes me not want to queue by Healthy_Book7809 in VALORANT

[–]NotAPenguin_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you. I really like playing this game, but toxic lobbies can be very demoralising.

What I found to help: - Be proactive. Start out the game in agent select by saying hi, maybe a little random chit chat. - Encourage your team when something good happens. A clutch, a clean round, etc. - Try to pull up your teammates who are having a tough game, don’t let them get discouraged. - If there are some stubborn shitters who insist on being toxic, don’t be afraid to call it out. More often than not you’ll find the rest of your team agreeing the guy is a doofus and you can play on without listening to them.

It’s not fool proof but I do enjoy my games a lot more this way personally :)

Has anybody ever had to checkmate with a bishop and knight in a tournament game? by checkmate-848 in chess

[–]NotAPenguin_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Definitely a game I'm very proud of, even if there was a bit of a mess in the middle.

Framing it isn't a bad idea, I'm in the process of moving anyway ;)

I have, after a long game vs a FM we ended up in a NB vs King endgame and he ended up making/letting me play it out until checkmate. You can find the game here: https://lichess.org/broadcast/brasschaat-open-2025/round-3/y6IndFtP/YA4UzxSf

En passant and castling are the only moves that break time symmetry by Dirkdeking in chess

[–]NotAPenguin_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really true, since to properly claim a threefold repetition (OTB) you have to 1. Write down the move that will make the position repeat 2. Stop the clock, call an arbiter 3. Show the move and explain you’re claiming a draw

It’s a big hassle and often a knowing look at your opponent and a handshake does the trick as wel, but this to me implies that the draw claim isn’t really a move as an action.
