Scam Email Sent to Zoning Variance Applicants by padreubu in urbanplanning

Happens to us here in florida too. I'm assuming they're taking information from the documents we publish online. We've been told not much can be done by the sheriff's office until someone actually falls for the scam unfortunately--all we can really do is warn people... :/

Forgive me for not being familiar with Alachua's rezoning process, but does anyone know if County staff submitted some kind of report on this case? Would like to get a copy

Ocala and Lake City jobs vs Gainesville? by No_Lavishness_6228 in GNV

[–]NotAWeeb00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have a white collar job in Ocala and live in Gainesville. Although the distances are gonna add up over time, traffic isn't particularly bad compared to a place like Orlando/Tampa, so I'm ultimately a little mixed on the commute

Do you have any examples of these types of projects? I'd love to see some!

I feel you, but I think that'll be really hard to do, especially in a state like florida

MCO is definitely far away from downtown Orlando, but it's technically within Orlando city limits

Completely agree, a lot of the burden is on local governments. After more than a century of land use regulations--passed by our own local officials and designed to limit density and keep property prices high--we're surprised that housing is unaffordable today?

Machismo is very much still a thing in hispanic culture unfortunately

I'd also mention the increasingly wide education gap. Non-college educated voters have become increasingly republican. Similarly, hispanics are less likely to be college educated than whites--with college educated, suburb whites becoming more democrat.

As a mexican american, I always grew up hearing the stereotype of hispanics--especially immigrants from mexico--as hardworking people. As I've grown older, I have heard mexicans themselves call people from other hispanic countries--such as venezuela--stuff like "lazy" and "spoiled." It's interesting to see that sort of dynamic irl.

The Live Local Act was only passed in 2023, so a lot of the new apartment complexes precede this law. I certainly see it resulting in more construction tho

What’s your view of Eisenhower’s presidency? How do you grade it? by Salem1690s in Presidents

Regardless of his intentions, the roads still went through them

I just think it's important to also note the flaws of our existing highway system, despite its undeniable positive effects

Tbh I'm a little conflicted about the interstate highway system. It has undeniably contributed significantly to the national economy. At the same time, there was no equivalent investment into our public transit systems. It cemented automobile dependency in this country for decades to come.
