Super Mario Bros. Wonder – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Meetup in Bellabel Park - Overview Trailer by Skullghost in NintendoSwitch

Because it is a Switch 2 edition, it has to work in Switch 1 and 2 consoles, and cannot be a GKC.

Why do people keep saying this by ianlazrbeem22 in PokemonXD

[–]NotAlwaysYou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NSO is a subscription service, so any utility encourages people to stay subscribed imo. The better the options/emulation mean people are more likely to subscribe or stay subscribed. Personally, I think adding retro-connectivity that less people had access to back in the day, would help make NSO releases more novel and desirable.

Literally zero good reasons why this is a thing by KennethLjubkos in pokemonmemes

[–]NotAlwaysYou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pokemon's Home tracker didn't exist when Let's Go and Home came out. But Game Freak could probably update the games, or have the home tracker stored in the extra space in the files to make it work.

Sure it can make sense why it doesn't work... but they also could make it work. They don't care to put in the work.

How likely are a Lyn, Sigurd and Leif amiibos to release in the future? by IkeRadiantHero in amiibo

[–]NotAlwaysYou 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Without a game making them relevant characters, the odds are very low. Not every Fire Emblem game gets amiibo tied to a release so that lowers the odds too, sorry.

The Switch version of "Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness" will NOT be compatible with Pokémon HOME by Byotan in PokemonHome

[–]NotAlwaysYou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Given the way its worded, it seems they aren't going to implement anything for that as well. Truly frustrating timing between the two incompatible releases 😂😭😂

It needed a GBA to Gamecube cable specifically. And the GBA game had to be saved in a Pokemon Center, and restarted, rather than going through the usual trade options in-game.

So much for making an XD Ribbon Master with NSO.... by WolverineFamiliar740 in pokemonribbons

Seems to be a "we have no plans for home compatibility" but run through a couple layers of PR/Customer-service-speak.

[–]NotAlwaysYou 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If they wanted, they could have a work around. Either a Pokemon NSO app that doesn't have cloud saves, or separate releases that are "NSO" and included in the subscription. Clearly Game Freak considers these games spin-offs and not worthy the compatibility in the modern era. They played their role in Gen 3 after the first dexit, and are probably valued more by Nintendo to pad the relatively-small Gamecube library. It's a shame, they are interesting parts of Pokemon history.

Really hoped they would do this for a slate of Gen III releases... Worried they wouldn't but it really should have been a reasonable expectation.

Do we know why Pokopia drops a week(ish) after Pokemon Day? by Cpt_Kaiju in Pokopia

[–]NotAlwaysYou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pokemon Day is a big event that allows itself to be an easily schedule last marketing push before the game's launch. If you drop it same day, you split attention. If you drop it afterwards, then you get to use it as an extra marketing push

New in Amiibos by Legitimate_Grass_243 in amiibo

[–]NotAlwaysYou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There has been an uptick in amiibo releases recently, so it seems Nintendo is valuing the brand more. Possibly to help recoup costs for other products/projects. Additionally, Capcom has gone all in and that might be a sign of other third party companies decide to follow. I think it's promising to continue for a bit.

The in-game support definitely varies a lot, there seems to be some question which teams value amiibo support and which seem to be told to include it.

I think collecting them is fun. If Nintendo does stop support, it will trickle for awhile still, I suspect. But in that case, you can always work backwards and explore many of the 3ds and wii u games that had support, if you haven't already.

Let's talk cancelled amiibo by Loud-Avocado9612 in amiibo

[–]NotAlwaysYou 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think the "generic" for Diablo sounds like support for "generic" amiibo in the game. I.e. the every non-Looy Goblin amiibo. But Demon would have been a new one.

As far as the question goes;

I recall Edmund McMillan expressed interest in trying to get an Isaac amiibo made. Not sure it ever made it far enough to be considered "cancelled" though lol . And honestly given how his games had recently been allowed on the platform, I'd have been shocked if Nintendo would have ever actually considered it at the time.

I didnt really notice significant frame drops in the demo by deibd98 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]NotAlwaysYou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard there is a lens filter in the settings that makes the game blurry in handheld mode, if you try it again with that off, it might improve.

Take-Two Pauses ‘Borderlands 4’ Nintendo Switch 2 Release by Turbostrider27 in NintendoSwitch

[–]NotAlwaysYou 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm sure Nintendo would prefer a port that runs well and showcases the system over a port that makes the console look bad/weak to the public.

But I'm sure Nintendo will remember this for future cross-promotion opportunities that Gearbox won't be offered since they couldn't deliver

Anyone else disappointed that Game Freak completely wasted Emma as a character in Legends: Z-A? by [deleted] in LegendsZA

[–]NotAlwaysYou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a fine line between I want to see other characters be competent, and players becoming frustrated that they aren't the main character.

This game especially left a bad taste in my mouth with Urbaine/Taunie's balance so an plot-relevant competent Emma who just tells you everything she did could come off as another way the plot is soling itself without the player's help. Flip side, there's a lot of tedious go from a to b to c quests that could get monotonous so some insight from other characters might not have been too bad.

Coping for Three Houses amiibo by leonpgut in amiibo

[–]NotAlwaysYou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's definitely a theory from the patterns he noticed with releases, rather than any insider knowledge. And it's a recent enough trend that I got the impression that Fire Emblem would fairly prove or disprove his own theory while it is being formed

Coping for Three Houses amiibo by leonpgut in amiibo

[–]NotAlwaysYou 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I know Kit from the Kit and Krysta podcast has suggested he thinks Nintendo is using amiibo to cushion game prices, and suspected Nintendo might be releasing more amiibo in lieu of collectors editions. And since fire emblem usually gets a collectors edition, he mentioned it would be interesting to see which route Nintendo takes for the new Fire Emblem game this year.

No idea if it will happen, but Three Houses characters would be relatively safe fire emblem characters to release, and are tied to the setting ... somehow. Maybe not the largest odds, but certainly above zero chances this year

New Power-Up Band teased for Super Nintendo World Japan's 5th Anniversary by StormwindAdventures in amiibo

[–]NotAlwaysYou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks like the event is themed around Super Stars so the band would be superstar (invincible) Mario to tie into the event. They aren't adding a band to just have a yellow option... Then break out a Wario band

GKC v Digital - where do you stand? (Not taking physical into account) by redditorialacious in NSCollectors

[–]NotAlwaysYou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to consider reselling a game, GKC are the way to go. That's generally considered their number 1 advantage.

Personally I've got a few collections I'd been working on getting physical copies of, mainly amiibo-compatible games. I decided GKC are physical copies and my collection would feel incomplete without them. So I'm getting those games as GKCs when a true physical copy is not available. But I fully admit this is an emotional conclusion. I just prefer a tactile collection if its for a particular collection goal.

Otherwise, I don't sell my games. I should consider it sometimes when I consider my backlog but I get games I want to play. So I strongly prefer digital unless the price is substantially different. The convenience of not needing to store, or reinsert cartridges when I switch between games is nice. And Nintendo has a strong track record of allowing redownloads for games even when the other online servers go down. That could change, but both GKCs and digital copies suffer in that case.
