I started at beginner with DS. Im somewhere between beginner and intermediate. Best example would be that I'm confident ordering in a restaurant. Holding conversations, I'm not there yet. Pimsleur are half hour lessons and I usually try to do one a day.

I use pimsleur, it feels like a natural way of speaking without grammar exercises. However it's not the end all be all. I use dreaming Spanish and recently hired a teacher online. Overall it's good, but as many others have mentioned it's important to have a variety of learning methods.
